      I am a cameraman and filmmaker based in Vienna/Austria and I did a lot of Projects on my Mac Book Pro (Mid 2014). Now it is time for a new one, so I really think I will go for the Studio M2 Max with the 64GB and a 1TB SSD. Should work fine for my studio. Great review. I would love to see SOMEONE do a comparison between a brand new computer and A three year old or five year old computer. Most of us don’t buy a new computer every year so a comparison from last years to this years isn’t particularly helpful. The guys that are buying a new machine every year either have too much cash hanging around, are UA-cam influencers that get their demo machines free or high end folks that use every bit of power that they can get every year and are making a living from these things. And they already know what they’re getting next.

    Thanks for the excellent top level overview.
    If people are considering a Mac Mini as a cheaper alternative, they should consider the much higher operating temperature of that machine. Higher operating temperatures shorten the life of electronics. If one is the type who buys a new machine every couple of years that won’t be a problem. But, if you’re hoping to keep the machine for a long time, it should be an important consideration.

    • @awakeabroadmedia
      @awakeabroadmedia  3 місяці тому

      Well said! This is important!

    • @awakeabroadmedia

      Hmm great question. Sounds like the same question I had when I bought mine.
      If you think the M3 is going to be significantly better for your needs then I would wait. But also think about how much use you will get out of the M2 NOW if you went for it now.
      Truth is, the increases between M1,2,3 are not as big as the one from Intel to M, so is it work waiting until an undisclosed date for a 20% increase in performance?
      I would do what I did- go on the refurbished page, save yourself some money and get the Mac now, and start pumping out work for your business. If you regret buying it, you can always return it within the first 30 days I think.

    I would love to see a real world video of the performance in Lightroom (Devolop module). Like you, I custom built a nice PC a few years ago. It seems no matter what, LR just runs slow when it comes to actually editing the photos, playing with the AI masks etc. I am tempted as a wedding photographer, but cant find anyone showing any videos on this one point. LR has historically not been a great performer in general, so I wonder how this little guy truly performs when it comes to getting into RAW edits, AI masking, and etc and load times from one image to the next etc. All the stuff that drags on most other machines.

      Great point! Honesty I find that this computer handles lightroom really well. Same with my old PC. Really you need a good amount of RAM and processing power to have lightroom work well. RAW files need a lot of power to open and modify and typically when editing were not just editing one photo but hundreds if not thousands at a time.

    I think that the GPU also uses the RAM memory, because not being like an external video card, which has its own memory.(don't know for sure) And the other reason which is better to have more RAM, it is because of the applications that eats a lot of memory. Clearly having an external video card it is better. One thing that they could do, like in the past, it is to connect to a an external video card, that would be a game changer !

    • @awakeabroadmedia

    The M1 Max studio is more than capable to meet most professional of workload with 64GB Ram and 1TB SSD. Apple have a poor product cycle which is heavily biased toward corporate profit and not the consumer. So the tragedy of purchasing an M1 Max Studio in 2024, a capable machine which would last a consumer 5-7 years before needing to upgrade is Apple. Apple's planned obsolescence program slows down machines by storing massive 'system data files' in the SSD over time and or use of software updates to jeopardize efficiency and wear out components. The idea is that Apple want you back at their store every other year regardless of whether you can afford regular upgrades or not.
