    Now that is a proper electric motor sound! People complain about electric cars, but they sound like this, manufacturers won't be getting any complaints from me!
    Great capture, put a smile on my face! 👍

      If you wish to hear a real proper electric motor, look up acceleration of the Soviet ЭР1 and ЭР2 3KV DC EMU's

      They aren't cool (obviously the accelerating/decelerating is cool) but the noises between canary wharf and Waterloo are horrific and would give you ear damage if you used that section every day

    I remember being in London in 2009 (I was ~5) and hearing this sound while travelling on the line. Hearing Wilbur Soot's song made me think of it, and I just had to check. Thank you for posting this video! I wonder why the Calgary C-Train motors don't make that noise, but it seems like so many other lines in the world do.

    Too many of the Underground trains are so noisy. I don't know whether it's cost cutting on the trains front, or whether it's the actual tunnels themselves where cost cutting is apparent - through use of low grade or poorer quality tunnel insulation.
    Either way it's cost cutting rearing its head. It's the story of rail transport in the UK..... Whether sub surface or trains above ground. Bad decision making and overuse of poor quality materials has blighted Britain's trains for at least 40 years.
    Nevermind moving towards 'driverless' tube trains, what is more urgent in 2021 is that all new stock in the Underground has air conditioning as standard - this is what Londoners REALLY want, and rightly expect. And the noise levels in tunnels to be reduced - maybe by using better quality materials and insulation. Something that should have been done in the first place.
    The noise levels on Jubilee, and Victoria line trains are unacceptable. Perhaps TfL could or rather should address this.....aswell as fitting air conditioning to trains, which given our increasingly hotter summers, makes sense - it's a 'no brainer'; and it's time that air conditioning was no longer considered a 'luxury' on Underground trains. Regardless of the shortfall in revenue, it's something TfL need to give proper thought to.
    It's bus usage that is declining and shows little indication of going up again over the next decade.
    People are using taxis, trains or their own transport (car, bicycle, motorbike, e-scooter). All these mostly empty buses travelling around and clogging the roads. TfL need to divert more money away from buses and towards the London Underground.

    • @UndergroundEnthusiast
      @UndergroundEnthusiast  3 роки тому

      I can see your argument. I agree with all your points (other than the noise the trains make - the tunnel noise is annoying but the actual sounds of the trains are satisfying in my humble opinion). I don’t think the points you have made make the underground unbearable, but they can certainly be improved.

    • @Twittler1
      @Twittler1 3 роки тому +2

      All the new sub-surface trains have A/C. It’s the deep lines that can’t have it. The trains are too small for A/C to fit anywhere. The only place for equipment is the space under the centre bank of seating on each side. And that’s full of traction and control gear. The end bank space is filled with running gear, the bogies, motors, wheels/axles. There is no tunnel insulation. Never was, and there’s no room for it. Some of the loading gauge clearances are tiny. Plus, the tunnels get very hot on their own - add the heat of the train’s traction gear, and the tunnel’s hotter than the inside of the trains. A/C won’t work in those conditions. It removes the heat from the air you want to cool, and expels it. When the space you’re going to expel it to is already even hotter, it won’t work. The trains would end up drawing heat in from outside. Basic physics.

    • @rolby
      @rolby 2 роки тому +1

      @@Twittler1 I agree, most of the Underground’s heat is a build up for driver breaking anyway.

      Its the tunnels themselves. Back in the day it was private companies who ran and bulit the tube. They built the tunnels smaller because thats cheaper and the tunnels echo the trains sounds which makes the situation far worse.
