I made lead trumpet for region and just recorded for all-state(ill comment how I did with that when I find out). Your videos, help a lot. just hearing possible interpretations of the improv you did and your style on the etudes really got me thinking in the jazz mindset. and your explanations on tricky stuff helped me get better. Thank you.
You're welcome! And congratulations! I'm glad the videos helped. Looking forward to seeing you in the All-State band. So yes, please let me know if you make it. I won't be judging this year. It's possible that I won't be judging ever again because of the new system. So let me know when you know!
They no longer judge all of the sections in one city. It used to be that all of the judges met in one place and they all judged together in the same building. Last year they started judging each section in a different city. This year is the second year they are judging the trumpets in El Paso. I’m from El Paso, but I’m not giving up a weekend of work to judge. :-)
I made lead trumpet in my region. It wasn’t exactly the best audition I wanted, but I’m glad that it payed off. I like your videos and your interpretation on the various ways that jazz can be played and executed.
Yes sir, your videos help! I'm proud to announce I got the lead trumpet spot in both my all-region jazz band and all-state jazz band 1!!! I definitely use the resources you provide and have been the last few years. Thank you VERY much for your help. You truly have helped me develop my style and I'm relatively new to this jazz thing (only 4 years doing it and only 2 years of my school having a jazz band). I love it for sure and you have helped me develop what I call a passion. Thank you!
I made a region band, as a pianist. I am a trumpet player but due to embouchure complications I decided to try out on the piano this year. Next year i'm going for it as a trumpet player. Your videos always help.
Ha ha!!! Well good. I have been saying that the jazz region stuff is too easy because there's not enough competition. Hopefully more people will get involved. I'm glad you made it, even with the tough competition. :-)
I’m actually a bass player, not a trumpet player, but I made jazz region and advanced to area. I actually used your improv videos as a tool for what to sort of replicate, rather than just playing chord tones and being rather uninteresting. I also used it as a source for listening to the tracks because I didn’t receive anything from my directors this time nor did I have time to purchase them (I think that’s how it works?) before the audition because I started working on the improv the night before... Anyway, though I’m not a trumpet player (though I do also play concert trombone), I appreciate your videos because they did benefit me a lot. We had a 1st chair trumpet and 1st chair bass trombone at my school as well, plus another trumpet make the second band, which is interesting as our school doesn’t have a jazz program. Anyway, thanks for the videos, they benefit in more ways than one may expect.
That's something I hadn't thought of, that other people may be benefiting from my videos besides just trumpet students. Well good! I'm glad you could use the information I'm sharing. I will have to keep that in the back of my head from now on. Not all of my viewers are trumpet players. How cool is that? And congratulations on making region. You must be pretty good if you only had one day to practice some of the music. :-)
Congratulations Samuel! Third chair is not bad. I'm sure that means you taped for state? What mouthpiece were you playing that it made the sound so bad? A good lead mouthpiece shouldn't only sound good on the high notes. :-( I used my shallow mouthpiece on the first set of recordings I published. The change in tone shouldn't make so much of a difference that it would cost you a chair or two. Maybe it's time to look for a different lead piece?
Eddie Lewis yes i did tape for state we had a lesson once at aldine high school you said i sounded just fine on the mouthpiece but i guess the first chair sounded better
Oh! THAT Samuel! Yes, you did sound fine on that mouthpiece. Nothing wrong with your sound. I’m glad you made region! I was going to ask your director, but you beat me to it! I have a video coming out in the next few weeks about music competitions. I want you to watch it. I think it will explain better about the region results. You played well for me and I REALLY don’t think there’s a problem with your sound nor your mouthpiece.

@@eltigredo what's the new system? I recorded on oct. 10 and am awaiting for results. Are other regions still recording or is everything the same day?

Nice, multi-instrumentalist. My son did the same thing when he was in high school.
Glad the videos helped.
Oh, and congratulations! Almost forgot to say that.
The videos you make of how to play the etudes better and just you playing the etudes help a ton. Thanks for all the help
Good. I'm glad. And thank you for the feedback. It helps me to decide what I'm going to do in the future.
I made all-region and yes your videos were extremely helpful. I rewatched a lot them multiple times. Thank you!!!
That's great! I'm glad the videos helped. Congratulations!

Congrats!

I didn't make it, but your videos definantly helped. I wouldn't have gone without your help. Thanks for the help!
I'm glad the videos helped. What are you going to do differently next year?
I made jazz region as well, thank you for the videos you uploaded, they were very helpful

I made all region :)
Congratulations Joshua!
I have found you Josh Muahhahahahahah
I made it but i got 3rd i think the reason i got 3rd was because of my tone a had a shallow mouthpiece and the cuts where not in the upper register
Congratulations Samuel! Third chair is not bad. I'm sure that means you taped for state?
