  • I don't have a way to get a signal into the little crt so I improvise and use it as a slide viewer. The AM/FM radio works fine and the old Ni-Cad battery still can go for about 15 minutes on a charge.

I have the same one. I used to watch TV in the late 80's/early 90's with my brother when we were kids in Bowmanville Ontario and there weren't many stations that we could pick up but it was so awesome to have something so futuristic haha. I just found a youtube link showing how to broadcast your own signal to use it again. I am going to try it as I live in Australia now and just found my mini TV. Here is the link if you want to try: ua-cam.com/video/I4XtDqK63z8/v-deo.html

You could feed it the antenna output of an old VHS machine. The signal is identical to a regular analogue television station, so any old tv set should tune it. If you feed the analogue output of a digital set top box into an A/V input of the VHS, you can watch any current tv channel. The mechanical functions of the VHS can be broken for that to work, only the electronics need to be functional. If you don't have a VHS any more, you can buy separate UHF modulators. They take any analogue A/V signal and modulate as if it was a television station.

Hook it up to a hulking great VHS player and you can still watch soaps in the kitchen! This is a super thing. These were quality.

I remember buying one of those from Pakistani electronics import store back in 1983. That was when there was an electronics district on 45th street, in the NYC Times Square area. If you wanted the latest, coolest gadget, people would definitely hit the 45th Street area. Mine came with a leather carry case with a shoulder strap.

If you want to get a picture onto it, you can buy an RF modulator off of amazon.com, and it'll have composite inputs. You can run a composite source into the RF modulator which will output on channel 3 or 4, and you can then shove that signal into the antenna input and tune the channel you're outputting on and it'll display a real picture.

I have a vintage camera from the same period and it too still holds a little charge, enough to get about 7(?) pictures, I want to replace it but unable to find a replacement, currently looking for someone to rebuild it...I wish mfg would think of the long term or the geek who wants to collect vintage gear and just use common rechargeable....also, I have a cat that looks just like your, she too likes to concur things!

It is possible to get a signal on that TV if you know how. It is possible to make a homemade broadcast or just directly attach a wire to the antenna and go into a VCR, cable box, or something else that can output a signal on channel 3 or channel 4.

Hi Dan, just a couple questions. I recently came across 1 of these in mint condition with all of the accessories including headphones. Mine is in a nice light brown leather carrying case which looks like it was made specifically for it as it has compartment separators for each accessory. I am just curious as to the approximate value. Any chance you could give a ballpark price?

I have a few of these, funny thing about them being that all of them were accompanied with their original packaging much like this one, I have two of the Sinclair research built ones, picked them up before they were collectible, its like they were all bought as gifts then rarely actually ended up being used, in fact all of the ones I've acquired are in near or are new, the Sinclair's I bought in an auction around 20 years ago with many other items new & unopened, from a lot in a warehouse that came from a Gibson's store that went out of business in the late 1980's or early 1990's, that was a good buy even for the time, I picked up many Commodore & Sinclair computers, New! unopened! in their boxes!!! (not for sale) Gibson's was a department store chain, I know they were common in the mid-west US, they were an early victim of WalMart.

I dont know if you know it..but the small knobs are screwed to whats called a potentiometer, which is a variable resistor...and it vary's when you turn it left or right...do NOT force the knob too far, it only goes left and right, but it stops when it reaches the end of travel left and right..
