There is an interesting relationship that businesses have with greed, Greed by definition is "a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is *needed* " (Merriam-Webster.com). You must have extremely low standards. The best major and nominated candidate for President in living memory, if not your memory, was Barry Goldwater in 1964. I'm not counting Calvin Coolidge although there may be a few extremely elderly living people who remember him as a candidate in 1922. I really like Ron Paul but I can't remember everyone who unsuccessfully ran for President without winning a major nomination in the past century. The best candidates usually get eliminated in the primaries, especially in the two major parties.
@@royalspin Much better candidates have run for President. Tulsi seems like a decent person for a politician but she's not a spectacular candidate like I would want out of a nation of hundreds of millions of people. Her platform sucks. It may be relatively good for a Democratic Presidential candidate in 2019, but it sucks. If you think Tulsi is the best person to run for President in recent history, you almost certainly don't know the other candidates who have run in recent history, no matter what you political positions are. There are many extremely accomplished and even principled people who have sought the office of the Presidency. In most US Presidential elections there are usually some excellent candidates with real convictions and great ideas who lose to some smarmy mudslinging corrupt politician. In recent years the really great people usually get knocked out in the primaries or run third-party or independent. Occasionally there are exceptions and a truly good candidate gets one of the two major nominations for President, but it's rare. Most Presidents aren't as good as they should be.

@JR 14 Who are you responding to? BTW, it works both ways. The foundation of an economy is the consumer, as you rightly argue. But, capital is a requisite for new business, industries, markets. So "trickle down" is part of the equation, too. If you're responding to Jeffersonian ideal, I'm fairly certain that "the people who produce" are workers, consumers, and businesses, while "the people who don't" are government. Government is at best a necessary cost of business, at worst pure parasitism. But government does not produce -- indeed, by virtue of its absolute dependence on coercion, it is incapable of adding value on its own.
@JR 14 >concentration of wealth over time (to the detrement of everyone else) How is it detrimental? Because poor people get envious of things they don't have? Then it's on them to work hard and get ahead in life.
@JR 14 I can agree with most of what you said, but I'm disabused of the notion that government can be "reined in". How does that happen, exactly? It's far beyond a single election, and it always has been. It's a problem of inherency and incentives. You can have a popular revolution, and as soon as the common person gets back to work, some power- or wealth-hungry individual or group moves in to grab the reins. We see this time and time again in history, and how exactly do you prevent this? The common people, who at best benefit collectively, simply do not have the incentive to actively put in the effort -- be it simple lobbying or Machiavellian machinations -- that those who will uniquely benefit do. And, if you think about it, that is _inherent._ The worst actors stand to benefit the most, so they have the strongest incentive to achieve control. No matter how much I think about this, no matter what angle I approach it from, I can't envision how you get around this. The only solution I've come up with is to maximize decentralization of authority, to end legislative monopolies, which is essentially a return to common law. This of course has all sorts of issues for business (especially between jurisdictions), but at least it eliminates the power attractor in the state space of governance.

@@maccon1 if the costs were comparable that would be a fantastic trade, but bringing military spending to 0 won't get us close to all the "free" things Dems are bribing voters with (not to mention the 22 trillion in debt we still need to pay in addition to the insane budget that would include all these goodies)
You should keep paying your bills until you die. Taxes are the bills you pay to live in a place which is safer and better-run than Somalia, Dark Ages Europe, or other places with weak/unstable regimes.
@@Camdenandroid the problem with that is the U.S. has never been a "weak/unstable regime" and yet for most of our history, we didn't have an income tax. We certainly weren't "weak/unstable" in the year 2000 when our government spent half as much as it does now. Yes, taxes are a "bill" and you should pay your bills, but it's the only bill where you have no say in how much you pay or the services/products you get in return (if any). But the taxes that provide for a safe community are the taxes that fund your local police/fire department, which are usually sales taxes. Not only do sales taxes not really resemble bills, but they are certainly not the kinds of taxes Whoopie Moopie was referring to.
Why is the government involved in the private business of school? Each school should run their own business. Government's only possible role should be accreditation so there are standards for grade levels, degrees, etc.

Sad. She agrees that it's your body and your responsibility when it comes to drugs, but my responsibility when it comes to your education or your job. So close. But still so far away.
Her position on the War on Drugs just shows why Progressives aren't true allies on that issue. Just because they're for legalizing weed, doesn't mean they're for ending the war on drugs. She would continue to prop up black markets for dangerous drugs with her policies.

There is an interesting relationship that businesses have with greed, Greed by definition is "a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is *needed* " (Merriam-Webster.com). Now the key word there is needed because in the business world what some might call greed is called profit, it is needed for them to make extra money in order to stay open.

Low wages and odd hours are what is supposed to inspire to acquire a more valuable skill set. Tulsi is simply the greatest presidential candidate of my lifetime. Without question
You were born after Ron Paul in 2008 and 2012?
You must have extremely low standards.
The best major and nominated candidate for President in living memory, if not your memory, was Barry Goldwater in 1964. I'm not counting Calvin Coolidge although there may be a few extremely elderly living people who remember him as a candidate in 1922. I really like Ron Paul but I can't remember everyone who unsuccessfully ran for President without winning a major nomination in the past century. The best candidates usually get eliminated in the primaries, especially in the two major parties.
@@Paelorian Low standards ? Apparently you don't know much about her .

No politico can claim they're "for the people" if they advocate income redistribution from the people who produce to the people who don't.
Fair point. Government should be run on donations or not at all.
@@marshaul
Yes, indeed. I'll just add that the donations should be completely voluntary. Not like the mandatory donations government imposes today.
@JR 14 >concentration of wealth over time (to the detrement of everyone else)
How is it detrimental?
Waiting patiently.
God..I forgot what an opposing discussion is supposed to look like. It's been too long..LOL I have so much respect for her sitting and talking with everyone regardless of agreement. Politicians should take note of her example....and so should society.

It's worse then that. They want to tax you after you die as well #DeatgTax
