  • Nestled in Virginia Beach, the Military Aviation Museum stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of America, housing one of the world's most expansive collections of operational vintage military aircraft. These flying relics, rescued from the ravages of battle and meticulously restored to their former glory, act as tangible time machines, connecting visitors to the pivotal moments in history that shaped the modern world.
Encompassing a sprawling 130 acres, the museum boasts a diverse array of aircraft spanning different eras, including World War I and World War II, providing a panorama of the evolution of aviation technology. The Museum's expansive campus features original structures from historic battlefields, a grass runway, cavernous hangars, and state-of-the-art maintenance and restoration facilities, earning it the moniker "Warbird Heaven."
Central to the museum's mission is the preservation and presentation of aircraft that played pivotal roles in historical conflicts. By doing so, it seeks to foster an understanding of their significance in shaping modern history and technological advancements. Visitors are afforded a unique opportunity to intimately explore these iconic aircraft, gaining firsthand insights into the engineering marvels that once dominated the skies.
Carefully curated exhibits not only showcase the planes but also breathe life into the narratives of the men and women who built, maintained, and piloted these legendary aircraft. The sleek lines of the P-51 Mustang, the iconic silhouette of the Corsair, and the commanding presence of the PBY Catalina all tell stories waiting to be discovered.
A notable feature of the museum is its unwavering commitment to maintaining these vintage aircraft in airworthy condition. This dedication culminates in the Summer of Flight (May - Oct), Flying Proms (June), and Warbirds Over the Beach (Oct) events, drawing audiences from around the globe. Attendees can witness historic planes in action from the flight line or the air-conditioned Warbird Observation Deck, immersing themselves in the graceful maneuvers and thunderous engine roars for an unparalleled experience.
Beyond the aircraft, the museum offers daily guided tours, rotating exhibits, special events, and summer camps, catering to families, history enthusiasts, aviation buffs, and school groups alike. Interactive activities, flight simulators, and knowledgeable staff further enhance the visitor experience, making it both entertaining and educational for all ages.
Set in the serene landscape of Virginia Beach, surrounded by lush greenery and coastal beauty, the Military Aviation Museum serves as more than a historic plane repository. It's a time capsule preserving aviation's legacy, offering an enchanting experience for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and families, promising an awe-inspiring journey through history.

Glad to hear you have Mosquitoes. They have not received as much attention here as the Spitfire, or the Hurricane. My uncle (we are English) flew many dangerous photo-recon. missions in them over war-time France and later also in the Far East, and lived - but never told the tale. All that is left of that tale is a huge pile of black/white photographs - presumably first impressions of his recon missions - he was always a keen photographer too, but died quite young.
