The ref’s should note the headwinds accurately for each run. Score it based on actual distance, but knowing
your “handicap” would be useful for next-month’s preparation and would greatly animate debate over beers🚀
The should do down-wind landings/takeoffs and then average the results with the upwind landings/takeoffs.
The Yeehaw 8 tookoff within the length of his plane! Easily!
wait a second...if "any" _actually_ means _any_ then that means you could show up with something like a parasail+backpack setup (I think they usually call it a paramotor? they're uncommon enough that any given maker can just call it whatever they want).
the landing and takeoff speeds on those are so low that you can essentially just jump and have a takeoff of either 0 (measuring from ground contact distance) or up to a couple feet (measuring shift of center of gravity before takeoff) with a similar performance for landing, hell, with a headwind like that they would need to be actively dumping lift from the wing in order to stay on the ground before they ever turn their motor on.
they're classified as ultralights and they are about as far from being a VTOL as you can get so they really would be legal untill specifically outlawed they just have takeoff speeds of like 12 miles an hour on the high end even before specifically building them for lift.
why do i see Cleatus Mcfarland doing this in the future lol
Lol
i was about to say where is the Cleet Crew XD
In honor of the epic performance of the Yamaha powered #44 I would like to share my love for Yamaha.
With well over 200K miles on 1liter + Yamaha road bikes and several years of Yamaha powered cars, I would highly recommend every type of engine enthusiast spend time with a Yamaha in the power band.
You don't need to ride a motorcycle, as plenty of cars are Yamaha powered. Toyota, Lexus, Ford, Lotus, Volvo and more can offer this opportunity to anyone who seeks it out. If water is your thing, maybe snow, air... Yamaha is there too.
ENJOYED !THANKS FOR Showing video !👍🏆
I was aggravated I couldn't go. We live 30 minutes from Jennings but got called out to work. Can't wait till next year.
We're having other shows all over the country! It won't be 30 minutes, but it could be worth a day trip!
The rate of lift off now is insane that’s all I can say I’ve never seen take off like this very exciting
How much is one of these awesome short distance airplanes costs
Where's cleetus when you need him
Who's algorithm got them here beause of Cleetus?
All hail the algorithm!
Cleetus Mcfarland algorithm...
I just love Steve. I do call this plane. jeff airplane
Awesome!!!😀
How mouth it prices for this plane .
If you watch it at 1/4 speed with the sound up, the commentary makes more sense, and really gets good around 19:23!
STEVE HENRY THANKS FROM TENNESSEE
FOD is not actually the true term for objects on the runway. FOD stands for Foreign Object Damage.
So, you can meet the pilots. Like, all two of them.
Someone get a semi truck and trailer, then paint a runway on the roof.
Has that heavily modified red Wilga PZL 104 named "Draco" Ever tried this ? or would it even be set up to do this ?
I know nothing about planes, just saw some videos of it and am curious.
cool video.
I am not sure if Mike has actually competed but it was definitely a capable aircraft. Unfortunately it was crashed (a total loss) a few years ago
@@MadsKjerulff Scrappy would be interesting to see now that Draco is gone
@@Jefreeman13 Mike has a research contract with the dod to build a quote research test aircraft that will be a long range high speed hyper stol aircraft (project Dracox) based on a technology developed by mike patey starting in 2017/18 the contract delivery date is in July this year I know mike a few other pilots have shied away from the competitions because of time insurance money and safety but something tells me in starting late July or August we’re going to be seeing what a Wilga with custom built wings looks like weather mike is going to compete with it is anyone’s guess but it’s going to be a interesting plane to say the least
Are they aloud to touch the tail before the line?
The Hiperlight I used to own could sone that
Maybe some one mentioned it and I missed it. Where was this event held?
They mentioned it but it was pretty brief. The event was held in Jennings Wisconsin
the swamp or something
need announcers that knows about STOL and airplanes
wtg the GRANDMASTER of STOL
Too many ads
You know, if they're running small tires for more grip, why don't they just run with hexagonal or octagonal "wheels?"
That may be next ;)
really long by Alaska standards
angle of attack!
Crank up a J3 Cub point it into a 30 mile an hour wind raise the tail with increase propeller speed then release the breaks and tell me how many it took to take off with the stick held back ?
Too darn may commercials. Stopped watching at 1:50.
That one sportscaster is way annoying. Not bad on mute though.
DRACO. FLIPPED. IN STRONG SIDE WINDS.....IT WAS. DESTROYED....PILOT. WAS A WALK AWAY
Made un watchable by the shouted comments 😂
the epic announcer voice is ALMOST as annoying as advertisements every 3 minutes. I give this video 1.5 outta 5 stars.
Nothing like hearing old white men quote "ya know game know game!". Keep those newbalances white, and that denim pulled up over your frontbutt!
My thoughts exactly
Great video, shame about the commentary.
wtf is a scratch?
When they land before the line
just can not take one of the ref's voice, screaming an acting like a cupcake, good as this is you should get adults as announcers, no kids as one of them.
please lose the epic announcer voice
Is being wealthy a must for participating and flying in this type of STOL?
I been watching guys like Patey and others and they all seem to be wealthy white guys. From the outside it almost appears like flying experimental or STOL is like the richer mans versions of modifying cars.
