Golden oldy ya got there. Ive worked on heaps of these/ this style, theyre all fairly frustratingly shite as are.
    You need to..
Mount a decent bit of plate to act like a anvil for the side chip blade to cut against, like a forage harvester.
Make spacers to hold the drum at a nice gap from new anvil,
Buy spare bearings as they eat them due to side loadings.
The blocking is due to the combing action of the straight swinging blades, not making bits short, if the blades are removable, weld a piece on to make them a T to cut the lengths shorter to go thru the grate better, the shredder blades want to be almost notched to rip n drag more than cut, weigh the blades and make them match, if your keen balance the drum, it makes hell of an improvement!! I used to have two pointy bolts thru some angle id clamp to the bench. At risk of stating the obvs, they use a blue/kevlar/slip belt and i think the 2 bolt plate (1:07ish) on the crankcase is a oil filter but memory maybe wrong..

re leak on carb, if you put some wet/dry on a flat surface [i used a piece of plate glass], then rub down the float bowl until it is flat again, used to straighten my zephyr V6 carb baseplates like that, kept air leaks away
    keep it up young lady

Today I fiddled with my piaggio scooter variomatic and Oilpump...now I am watching wrenching Videos on youtube..what is wrong with me??😂😂😂nice Video. Briggs&Stratton ...ya cant go wrong with them😎!
I don't think I have even to say it, but here it comes :Whenever you work on a mower, chipper or else with blades: remove the plug(s) before working on them! self ignition is rare..but it DOES happen once in a while;-) The most important tool you will ever have ,are your Fingers😬😬😬
Good stuff girl! Keep them Coming😁

Great video Kim. When the weather is better, you might consider taking the cutter head out and sharpening all the knives. And, by then, everything will have dried out enough to really test it out. All the best Kim. Cheers from the USA😁👍🇺🇸

That’s a lesson you learn the hard way when you check for spark, it’s even more fun in an old saw like the stihl 056 and your leaning on it in a cut and the boots worn out and shocks you right in the stomach 😂 I also love those John Deere coveralls. I don’t have much experience with those smaller chippers but seems to run decent and I feel you on the files getting corrupted😂 but great job as always Kim

Great job. I like how sometimes the easiest fix it whack it with a hammer lol. I have done that. I got one for 25 usd and it came with that guard on the out feed but it was laying on top. Glad I now know it is for. I plan on replacing all the bearings, seals, bolts and a new paint job. FYI rotted stuff tends to dule the blades quicker for some reason.

l have that same chipper/shredder just not I/C but it has the 8hp engine. I bought it brand new. It does a great job. Just not good for wet things. the free swinging serrated blades can be turned around to use the other side before they have to be replaced. The chipper blades can easily be serviced by removing the screen to sharpen or replace them. The clearance between the knives and the body is crucial. I have replaced the bearings with ones that have grease fittings. I use the chipper part for small branches { 1 3/4 inches or less} dry corn stalks and sunflower stalks. the shredder for the smaller things. I have run it without the screen { not recommended by the manufacturer} for wet things so it would not clog. I hope this information helps. Got to your channel through watching you on Diesel Creek.

I have a PTO powered flywheel chipper that I use a lot. They basically need sharp knives and lots of power to work well. It helps to adjust the chip breaker close to the knives to avoid to heavy a cut. My neighbour uses your type of chipper. It clogs up easily because its not got enough power. Wet leaves gum it up.
Chipping is tricky business. Wet timber chips easily. Dry timber blunts the blades quickly. You have to work the machine within its limits or it will choke up. My chipper will chip branches up to three inches in diameter but it takes 17 hp to do it ! It's an ugly vicious beast of a thing, watch out for your finger's.

That was on high rev! My mower did the same thing, I thought it was going to throw a rod before I settled the carburetor down too. I actually did have one that threw a rod, it was low on oil and I forgot to check it. Expensive lesson learned. 😬 Thanks for sharing Kim! I have no doubt this chipper will be fixed 👍Great job!

I always wanted to see the insides of one of them. Nice job getting the motor running again. You might want to also try to give her blades and chute a spray of silicone to keep any sap from sticking to the blades and definitely get a new belt. Looking forward to seeing it make mulch. Have a Great Day.

Good video Kim 👍 we hired out that model of chipper to the DIY market a while ago the first 2 had that 8hp Briggs engine then they went on to the 12hp Honda 💪💪 dont ever recall having problems with not throwing the chippings out but wondered if it had anything to do with the gap between the screen and the drum 🤔 Send It 😁👌

The chipper side will run like crap if the blades aren't sharp, I'm glad you realised the bigger branches (and old bits of wood without nails) goes in the side chute and the smaller stuff like leaves goes in the hopper on top, I'm also glad you realised that the blades in the shredder should be able to swing free just like a flail mower but why it's not ejecting I'm not sure, maybe try it without the heavy guard with holes in but I'm sure you'll get your head around it.

Thank you Kim for another entertaining video. Always interesting watching you diagnose problems systermatically. As just an observer I wonder a couple of things. 1st ; the guard where the waiste comes out, just looks a little restrictive and wonder if that guard is original? 2nd ; The engine seems in good repair but am wondering if the working revolutions are up to speck? Anyhow I am just showing interest and never dictating. Good to see you and keep the videos coming.

It’s a common issue on those carbs for the top cover to become warped due to over tightening the screws. Then it’s hard to get a good seal. Occasionally you need to double up the gaskets, some people have carefully filed down the screw location on the bottom side to flatten out the sealing surface.

By heck it’s been a while since I’ve seen one of those. Always wanted one but ended up using road otw chippers and never looked back 😆. You’ll probably need to sharpen the knives in it so it makes smaller chip which should come through the grill easier. Just have a look and see if there’s a sharpening angle, it can make all the difference if there’s an incorrect angle on them 😊

Check carb is flush with fine paper on heavy sheet of glass. That is how racing heads were trued many years ago! When holding spark plug for test hold the body. That id Zero or earth or ground whatever you want to call it so you are not in the circuit! You can stop an ignition engine by putting your fingers on the plugs but make sure your bare arm is rested on the chassis. Yes it take some believing but it was a right of passage donkeys years ago!
