10 out of 10? I agree 100% One of the finest book series I've read. I found it so interesting how Cornwell changed the characters while still retaining that his take could still give ride to how the characters are in the traditional King Arthur legend. I saw somewhere that Cornwell regards this series as his greatest work, and I agree. And I've yet to find an author in any genre that can craft immersive battle scenes like Cornwell.
"To fight battles, Derfel(?) ... umm... no.... (pause).... U know.... Arthur goes on to say..... (big pause)...... U know..... umm.. oh yeah.. :))) Your narration was great :))
I love your reviews & have been going through all the older ones I missed. This one though I turned off halfway through because of the spoilers. You said no spoilers then spoiler major things. Seriously, the Lancelot info over the top. I’m still going to watch your reviews but with a lot more caution even if you say no spoilers.
The internet is definitely spying, because each time I'm reading a new book, your review for it pops up in my youtube feed. I'm currently on Part 3, The Return of Merlin.
Hey great video, I've been meaning to read this series next month, but I've never read any Arthurian retelling so do you think this series is a good place to start or should I read some other series to know more about Arthur from his childhood?
I haven't read this yet either. If you want a series staring before Arthur's childhood try Stephen Lawhead's Pendragon Cycle (it's amazing). Taliesin is the first book.
I don't know whether it's a coincidence or not but Red dead redemption 2s main protagonist is Arthur Morgan and here in the book it's Arthur and his sister Morgan lol was the protagonist in the game named off this or is it just a coincidence, maybe I'll never know.
Good review. I have not read this trilogy, but Ive heard that it's a less magic-oriented, more grounded/semi-historical aproach (which kinda sucks). With that being said The Once and Future King is still the best Arthurian retelling, however Fate/Stay Night has BY FAR the best version of the king
Absolutely love the Once and Future King. In Middle School they made us read it and it was a reread for me and it was one of my best scholastic moments.
Well, you should definitely give it a try, because this trilogy is easily among the best stories on the Arthurian mythos. I love that there were little to no magical elements in it. Cornwell gives his own spin on the characters, which made them refreshing and not what you would expect.
This trilogy is practically flawless. Fantastic characterization, beautiful writing, and a fantastic portrayal of Arthur. Can’t recommend it enough.
Indeed
Mid.
Just finished Winter King last night. Absolutely loved it. Starting Enemy of God immediately.

Nooo!
The way you do it now is perfect!
I can tell how much you like this book. I don’t think you ever reviewed James Clavell’s Shogun yet.
Eventually I will get to all the James Clavell novels

@@muttineni03 No. Doesn't matter which one you read first.
