I can answer that for you. It basically didn't work very well if at all. The propeller they picked was designed for air, and I'm sure didn't really work at all in the water. Additionally, they didn't do any flow calculations or fluid mechanical design on their boat, so getting a hydrofoil to work was basically a total guess. And unfortunately, that's not easy to do. This means they need more iterations of trial and error to get something working before they can make a video about it.

Though, being of the mechanical sort, I'd have some misgivings about testing with a hard-faced hammer like that framing model. Very brittle surface that tends to fire off razor-sharp shards sideways if it does break... and that's not even explosives, that's just using one to hit another piece of hardened steel. Easy fix, just find a hammer specifically made to hit chisels and other hardened struck tooling. Probably easier to hit with as well.

Your depth of knowledge shows through like a Kea on, illuminating the topic. You studio is visually appealing, not so much as to take away from your presentation, but it's not a sterile set.

Aluminum. That reminded me of an article I read years or decades ago about the British War Council (or whatever its name was) meeting, where the members heard an evaluation report about the bombing effects. Somehow there came up a discrepancy why the German bombs of same size were more powerful than the British counterparts. The scientist knew the reason -- the German bombs included aluminum (or aluminium in UK English). If I recall, it was Churchill who then asked "Why don't our bombs?" OK, in short order aluminum was added to the British bombs as well.

This guy really knows his stuff and the theory as well. Those of us that are involved in research know this. Safety is very important however something that needs to be considered at all levels and mostly gained by experience. Most accidents are caused by a lack of knowledge and experience, poor preparation, taking short cuts and just poor judgment. People with experience understand the chemistry, they have spent hundreds of hours cross referencing videos with published material and other sources. This this one of the best videos that has been on UA-cam for some time. The rest in the main are kids trying to show off, trying to make compositions that the experts all agree are unsafe. People trying to be too clever for their own good and these are usually the ones that get into trouble and give the rest of us a bad name and are somewhat responsible for never ending licensing requirements. Thumbs up for this guy and an extremely well prepared video with excellent theory and sensible demonstrations.

I doubt u will see this but this vid got me thinking. 1, if the heat is basically what causes the stuff to detonate, then maybe try to set some off using thermite?
Also, I remember a while ago you said you were going to try to make a shape charge. This liquid explosive would be perfect for it. I could even 3D print you some things that would hold a metallic cone, or something more like a linear shape charge if you want. This would also let u have a variety of sizes. I think it would be super cool to have a mini shape charge that could have its own built in standoff. It would also be a good way to have a standard. And maybe in the future you could try using different kinds of metals other than copper. (I think lead would be super easy to shape into what you want, and I bet that would work just fine)

In. 1992 through 1995 I was removing loblolly pine stumps with Dupont's Tovex Mine-rite which was a high explosive based on aluminum. Explosive velocity was about 14,000 feet per second with plenty of gas production which gave it wonderful "heave" which lifted the stumps right out of the ground!. I was living on a 26 ac rectangle shaped property that was 80-85% pine and 10% large oak trees and 5-10% brush and small mixed hard woods, To keep an Ag tax exemption the property needs to be logged every 7 years. We cleared off about 6 ac. for 3 mobile home sites for my family, my dad and my wife's mom and dad. Trees on the 26 ac had been cut regularly and of course as close to the ground as possible. Diameter size was 14-16" all the way yp to a few that were 36" or so. Only pines were cut except when a hardwood was damaged when a pine neighbor damaged the hardwood when it came down. These trees have a straight tap root with a few modest side lateral roots. It was hard even for a D-6 bulldozer to get them out unless the driver spent 20-30 minuets working with them and a backhoe would take 45 to 90 minutes to dig them out. In 1990 a medium sized backhoe, operator, and fuel cost $60.00/hour. And after I had a. 24-26" stump removed at a cost of $90.00 I realized I had to find a cheaper way. I wanted them out of the ground so I could till the ground. I had major plans/dreams so I called BATF&E for laws/rules. An Agent sent out the "Orange Book" which I read cover to cover. I welded up a magazine and lined it with billets of white oak3" thick. I attached a electric blasting cap locking box that would hold 500 caps. Over the next 3 years I removed hundreds of stumps and blew up 5,000 lbs of Tovex, hundreds of No 8 caps were ($1.60) with 12 foot leads. Cost was minimal! Most stumps only required 1 cap, the Tovex looked like Jimmy Deans sausage and cost $1.10. Small stumps took 1 and 1/2 to 2 sticks. Really large stumps took a second cap on the other side and 1 to 1 and 1/2 sticks. My helper would dig up next to the stump 18" or so with a post hole digger and I would cut the sticks into1/3s leaving the thin plastic casing not coat all the way through. Push the cap into the explosive, throw a quick clove hitch on the three pieces, then lay on my belly pushing the bundle up against the stump at how bottom of the hole, push in the sandy soil and pack it down as
"stemming". Most shots were 3-5 stumps, the biggest was 19 stumps all tied together in series. My detonator was 2x3x3/4 inch with a 9 volt Dura-cell battery with 2 rubber buttons that I would start with one button. Where the red-light came on I would add the second button and away we went...Of course the unwritten rule of shouting "Fire in the hole" 3 times just before each shot was always done. I am an Emergency Medicine Physician here in Greater Houston, Texas and I must say we never had an accident or even a close call. Even my two daughters who were 9/10 and12/13 got to push the buttons with proud poppa standing behind them. They were just starting into the Dad's not Cool phase but this plastered huge smiles on their faces and audible "wow"s.

Hi! If you are going to do the wire detonation under water, please try different wires (gold, silver...etc) if you can. If you were not planning to do it under water, please give it a try. You can create nanoparticles this way, and (I guess, you already know this) if you manage to have different size of nanoparticles (which you might be able to control via the detonation parameters), you will have different colour of solutions (suspensions). It is a very fun experiment, but make sure that you use a very strong container for the water.
