This whistle is Steve Gilbert’s Reading 6 chime. It’s never been on 425 either. Although I’d like to hear it on 425 lower boiler pressure just once. It’s the same whistle 2102 wore in the 1985 Rambles, the 1988 Harrisburg trip, the Gettysburg trip, Railfan weekend 3, the Lansdale trips, and several trips in 1991. Steve’s been a R&N employee for some time and will be retiring this yr. If you ever have ridden the Shay @ Rough and Tumble it’s been on there many times as well. Steve is also a founding member of RCT&HS, a past president many times, and longtime trustee of the same.
I haven't heard a Reading 6 chime like that on 425. The Reading 6 chime everyone associates with 425 is Andy Mullers, but this one is from a different employee of the railroad i think.
Any whistle can be tuned differently, including whistles of the same type. This is a different Reading 6 chime compared to the one 2102 usually has with a different tuning as well. Plus, some whistles are made with different materials, so you can have both a brass and steel Reading 6 chime.

Excellent coverage of 2102 in action. Always a Class 1 Show from Reading and Northern railroad. Best steam operations in the east.
Absolutely thank you so much!
0:37 Her new Reading 6 chime sounds particularly great in this shot. On full blast, it plays a gorgeous tune.

I think it caught every one of us by surprise.
Glad to see more reconditioned coaches! They repaint at an incredible rate.

Thank you! It's always a pleasure!
Wow, 2102 wearing 425’s Reading 6 Chime? That voice reminds of the 425, and speaking of which, I hope 425 comes back from her 1472 Day Inspection!
We hope so!
Great video. I was also out that day too. The different 6 chime was a nice surprise for sure

Reading and Northern. We run it like we stole it!
I was on 2102 in the second Dom car
Are all Reading 6-Chimes the same? Can they vary?

NOOOO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REGULAR 6 CHIME
Don’t worry it’s not gone forever. Just was added to this run on a special occasion
