I'm not sure what it called in Vietnam. But here in Thai, What we called it is literally translated as crunchy squid. BUT IMO, Crunchy is not the exact way to describe it. It have unique texture. But if someone ask "Is that crunchier", I'd say yes, If you insist.

I'm a Filipino nurse, working in a covid ward here in the UK. I miss my family so much back home in the Philippines. This vlog gives me hope that someday I would be able to go back and see them again. Our fight against covid19 is really depressing that's why I'm hoping that I'd still get the chance to visit my hometown Pampanga (located in central luzon and the food capital of the Philippines). I'm missing the authentic DINUGUAN of Pinoy (mixture of pig head and intestine and its blood as the main ingredient) and SISIG MATUA paired with nice and cold Redhorse beer. 🤤 Please stopover there before you go to the northern Luzon-just heard Liz saying during corownathon that you guys have plan to go to the north. The very obvious love and appreciation Sonny has for Saigon and Vietnam in general is so heartwarming and inspirational. I introduced my 62-year-old dad to this channel and now Sonny is the reason my dad and I are planning a great big father-daughter trip to Vietnam (and a few other southeast Asian stops) when he retires in three years. It wasn't until I got to talking to my dad about this channel and how much I loved it that we discovered we both had a dream of traveling Southeast Asia. Now we're going to make that happen!!

I'm a vegan but I love so much to learn other culture dishes, even if the majority uses animal products bc it's so unique the way they cook and de history behind every dish and it's not harming the ecosystem like big industries of meat do, its a small communities and their culture, it's so pure and your carisma is the cherry on top of the cake! Never stop doing this, please show the world the various cultures we have and, most importantly, PLEASE COME TO BRAZIL!!!!! (after corona, of course)

4:40 the caption said chinese but she specifically said teochew chinese one of the many distinct types of southern chinese who fleed to south east asia like vietnam, singapore, thailand, cambodia, etc. and TEOCHEWS are huge craftsmen businessmen, majority of them they are so talented. im teochew! and i like how chung said he was able to remember bc a lot of chinese-viets has assimlated and there is huge prejudice around chinese too, even my own extended family like many others either do not even know they are Chinese because the cultures longed fused and no longer preserved or they REFUSE to admit theyre chinese.

That Chung guy can traced one of his ancestor as Chinese does not mean he is Chinese in any sense. He even considers himself Vietnamese. Vietnamese have long known that they virtually all have an ancestor at some past who is Chinese. Nothing new here. The two countries/people are neighbors for over 2000 yrs. The genetic variations among all humans is VERY narrow due to the genetic bottleneck supposedly happened about 70,000 yrs ago (Toba Eruption Catastrophy). Even much less so than between same breeds of dog. Genetic variations among some Asians are even far less. Also, the Cantonese, the predominant Chinese ethnic in Vietnam, are sinicized Viet cousin. So if you are born and raised in Vietnam having embraced and molded by its language and culture, you are 100% Vietnamese for all sensible purposes. What separate one person from another is their cultural and national identity here. That's what matters. It's fine to know where some of your ancestors came from and that is all good for what it is.

Im not 100% certain but I believe there is a whole dialect of Vietnamese that has lots of Chinese language (specifically Cantonese) influence! I swear I can almost understand the ladies at my nail salon sometimes haha
