This piece in addition to Tristan and Walkurie is one of the most studied "in-depth" Wagner's ouevre by modern film composers and orchestrators. Brilliant masterpiece of Mid-XIX Century Romantic music development...
Well, the Leitmotif process is used by a number of film composers, so you can see the influence there. This and The Flying Dutchman are probably the easiest introduction to Wagner, something straightforward. I do plan on having the entire opera on this channel, as soon as I can get some credits issues worked out, and hope to have more Wagner in the future.
@@KrystofDreamJourney Well, I just happen to have some Mahler and Richard Strauss in the production pipeline, but for now, you can enjoy the first three symphonies of Mahler elsewhere in my channel.

Fascinating that the young aristocracy could not comprehend the beauty of this piece. Themselves not seeing how their rejection of the opera in the face of a lack of beatitude from ballerinas made their opinion sour.
Absolutely incredible and I’m so glad the Met has recently announced that it will be on the list of repertoire for next season! Am I correct in saying that this must be one of the longest if not the longest operatic overture(s) out there?
I saw it at the Lyric in Chicago, and had to stop myself from singing along a few times. It could very well be the longest overture, with the ballet included. Also, you may note that the serial number is SV-24B. Keep an eye on this channel for the complete SV-24, coming soon!
@@SynchroScore ^ Although it may be annoying to an audience, singing along because you're just so taken with the music is a great way to show you're in the zone! Can't fault you for that. Where is the ballet? Is it in included with your score? I haven't actually seen the opera before though I played the overture a few years ago. It's asked frequently as an excerpt on orchestra audition lists but I feel it's not programmed that often.
@@rominn2184 I did sing "O Du Mein Holder Abendstern" in a college course, and it was well received. The ballet could be considered anything after the scene transition at 10:22, which includes a lengthy stage direction. Sadly, I'm unable to translate it in a manner that is easily related in the video. As I said in the video description, Wagner didn't really care about the ballet, and never wanted it there in the first place, and so aside from some general ideas he left the details of the dancing to the ballet people. The production I saw in Chicago was rather minimalist, as many opera stagings are nowadays, with the opera being full of frolicking and cavorting, including dancers squirming and cuddling atop a large platform covered with a sheet. One of the major themes of the opera is difference between chaste, restrained, pure love expressed by Wolfram and Elisabeth, and the unrestrained passion and debauchery of Venus. Some recordings even have Elisabeth and Venus performed by the same soprano.
Glad you like it! I have a video of the entire opera under production, just have to get some details finalized for the credits, and I'm always happy to take suggestions for future projects.
Having personally performed both French opera and art song, I would say they know quite a bit about culture. This channel also features pieces by Vierne, Widor, Debussy, Guilmant, and Saint-Seans, which I invite you to experience. Works by Gounod, Faure, and Ravel will be added in the future.

One of my favorite overtures.
Granted, I think it goes on for a bit too long, with the ballet, but it does serve to establish two important motifs, the Pilgrimage, and Venus.
@@SynchroScoreYes, I prefer the ten minutes version that is often performed regardless of the opera.

I'm honestly not surprised by that. I doubt many young rich people have much class or taste in art, even these days.
Young aristocrats are still as rude and boorish today as they were back then.
