    Hi, James! I have a question :) Maybe it's a little stupid. Is there a difference in sound between the previous generation rode and the new one? I mean the frequency response and other characteristics such as the ratio of the noise level to the useful signal, microphone sensitivity, etc. Or is it technically correct to say that these are the same microphones? (the same device inside, the same elements, etc.) Or is the difference simply in the ability to have a higher signal bit rate, dsp and usb connectivity?
    p.s. I hope my question is clear and precise in wording, cuz I'm not a native english speaker 😅😉

    Hi james.
    You mentioned in a previous video that shotgun mics are better for voiceover work if you are just starting out and dont have a booth or sound proofed room, is that still the case or would you recommend this mic instead of a similarly priced shotgun mic?

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  11 місяців тому

      Hey there! It's not that there necessarily "better" for voice over work, it's just that shotgun microphones tend to reject more ambient sound around you do to their tighter polar pattern, as in they only pick up what's right in front of the microphone and do a pretty good job at rejecting sounds that come from around the microphone. So technically they would be better in a room that's not quite as soundproofed as you'd like (A room that's letting in a little too much noise) however, shotgun mics are still REALLY sensitive just like large diaphragm mics are and will still pick up a lot of noise if the mic is facing said noise. How loud are the noises in your space?

    • @marcrow7817
      @marcrow7817 11 місяців тому

      @JamesYounger thanks for the reply! The outside noise isn't too bad at all, so I'm going to go with the rode nt1 and just treat the space as well as I can with blankets.

That's why I place the vocal on the beat with my hand. Is this normal? I record in Studio One. I use it at 432. Buffer size i is also in the Asio interface of the microphone. I literally quoted Rode in the video saying, "there's no difference between the NT1 and 5th gen when it comes to the audio" It's the exact same Guts. This is the first piece of equipment I've been given. 4 other smaller companies have reached out to me in the past, wanting me to review their microphones and completely stopped emailing me when I told them I'm always going to be 100% honest about the products I review. Now, get back to your studio work. Thank you in advance. 🤡

    I would have preferred an all black version of this mic. The grey metallic part is distracting on camera. That why I won’t buy this mic 😆

      Why don't to get it metallic painted.

      @@HarvinderSingh-yy8th It is generally not recommended to paint the metallic grille of a microphone, as doing so can affect the acoustic properties of the microphone and potentially degrade its performance. The grille is typically designed to be acoustically transparent, which means it allows sound waves to pass through it without causing significant distortion or attenuation. If you were to paint the grille, it could change the way that sound waves interact with the surface of the microphone, leading to changes in frequency response, sensitivity, and other important performance characteristics.
      In addition, painting the grille could also affect the durability and longevity of the microphone. The paint could potentially chip or flake off over time, which could interfere with the operation of the microphone or even damage it.

      Maybe that’s why the 4th gen sounds different lol

    Is it worth upgrading if you already have the older NT1?

    You kept saying "20,000 kilohertz" and "48,000 kilohertz" ... 48,000 kilohertz would be a very large number, that is 48 million hertz. These mics have a frequency response up to 20 kilohertz, not 20,000 kilohertz. You need to learn what kilohertz means. A kilohertz is 1000 hz.

    Hello, upon recommendation, I bought the Rode nt1 5th generation Microphone, but there is a delay while recording. When I lower the Buffer size, I hear crackling sounds. That's why I place the vocal on the beat with my hand. Is this normal? I record in Studio One. I use it at 432. Buffer size i is also in the Asio interface of the microphone. I have a buffer, but when I change it, there is no change in the delay. I would be happy if you help me. My laptop's processor is also powerful, i5 10th generation H processor.
