Love how the male doctor describes it as a 'bit of discomfort' as if he knows a single thing about what vaginal pain feels like.

I researched this extensively before I attempted to have this done in September 2023. I took pain killers before as they told me to do. In the first attempt I vomited and experienced shock symptoms. To be told it doesn't hurt is a lie. How could it not hurt?? Something is put up inside you & things are cut out of you for goodness sake. I had this finally done under anaesthesia December 2023. It is positively medieval torture without. I left feeling what is wrong with me that it hurt so much? Please ladies, insist on anaesthesia. Don't put yourself through what I went through. Xx

After reading many comments about how painful this was, I told my doctor I didn't want it. It was then that she suggested I could have it done in the OR under general anesthesia. They should give everyone that option from the start.

I had this done yesterday, I researched it online but didn’t think to look on UA-cam, I’m actually glad I didn’t find this before the procedure because it would have freaked me out. It certainly DID hurt, like excruciating, they had to stop but I agree for them to try again and keep going, I’m going on holiday soon and I wanted to get through it as I just wanted to wrap it all up and know what was going on inside me, they found a polyp and got it out, I am extremely relieved that this was something on offer. The staff were absolutely amazing and I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without their encouragement and amazing pastoral care ,real talk- I cried like a baby afterwards, like a comment earlier on,I thought I was a big baby but see from the comments that I’m not!! Thank you for everyone who left a comment, its really helping me to move on from it, it was the right decision for me to have it done in this way, looking back on it all I can’t believe I did it with no drugs, it’s crazy!! I’m still in disbelief to be honest

I had this done yesterday. It was so painful and I was in agony the whole 20 minutes. I was told during my consultation it may cause mild discomfort, I was not offered to have the procedure under anthesetic. And after the procedure was just sent on my way, nobody spoke to me just said I could leave. Lots of people say "it didn't hurt" but everyone is different and 1 in 4 women will experience very severe pain. So please don't tell people just have it done and you'll be fine. All women should be offered to be asleep for this procedure. I am terrified of the thought of possibly having to go back.

I have been referred to a gynaecologist by my GP, who has booked me in for next month for the hysteroscopy. BUT because I have not had any children, my cervix will need to be "softened" to open up. I will be going under general anaesthetic AND the doctor will have to do another intravaginal scan as well as inserting an IUD AND to check out my uterus lining AND to get a sample from the endometrial. So yeah, general anaesthetic for me....thank God.

  • @hoosierbaddy3052
    @hoosierbaddy3052 8 місяців тому +6

I had this procedure done several days ago. The surgery included a polypectomy. If general anesthesia wasn’t an option, I most assuredly wouldn’t have consented to it. No twilight or light sedation will do for this so called procedure. Heck, the transvaginal ultrasound was painful. I wasn’t going to try and grit it out on a table with a doctor scraping my insides. There’s no reason not to give general anesthesia. It’s not a price issue. They just don’t like putting people under. Too bad. I signed forms releasing y’all from liability if I die on the table. I’d rather risk death via general anesthesia than be awake/aware of this procedure. The aftermath pain isn’t as bad as I had anticipated. No cramping. Mostly sore.
No anesthesia surgery? Wonderful. Can I have a shot of whiskey and a bullet to bite down on? We’re going dark ages medically anyway. Pain management happens for hospice patients exclusively. Doctors/surgeons won’t prescribe opiates for post surgical pain anymore. Nope. They advise you to take some Tylenol. I’m simply saying that if pain isn’t manageable socially, we’re in for a world of hurt. The name of the game is patient advocacy. Hard to do for yourself when you’re the sick one.

I'm glad I didn't do it . I decided to go as I need to know the results I told my self that if will be too painful I will not carry on with it . I spoke to doctor and we said if I need it she will stop immediately. I had no pain / slightly cramps when doctor looked around . They find out 2 polyps. Had local anesthetic injection no painful. Polyps was removed and biopsy was taken had only slightly pain like pinching small cramps . Has no several pain at all . After only cramps and lower back pain (like period cramps and pain )Had 2 days rest soem pain relife for cramps and spotting last 2 days . ( After polyps removal i have not notice any more abnormal bleeding ) Please i do understand that everyone is different but please go and dont be scared talkt to doctor first . Please stop scaring others as can result on cancelation or moving appointment on time . This is very important and we shouldn't wait . Remeber you will be ok . Dont be scared like i was after reading all this coments . Had 2 csection no natural birth .Advise take 2 paracetamol or ibuprofen before appointment i did 30mints before . Talk to your doctor and ask for local anaesthesia. Inform that you worry and you stress and tell that you want stop if is too painful. Have a open conversation and plan with your doctor . I did it and i was so glad i didnt cancle it in first place .

I thought the procedure was amazing as I got to see my womb on the screen! They found a polyp and removed it problem solved as no more heavy periods for me. I had my hand held all the way through the procedure and no pain relief but was offered pain relief at any time if I needed it. I've had pain from constant heavy periods for quite some time now so the pain was no different to me. I had two paracetamols straight after and was ready to go home. I rested that evening and woke up the next day feeling fine. I'm just glad I was offered this procedure because the polyp wasn't detected before this.

    • @toriasummers2670
      @toriasummers2670 2 роки тому +5

Glad to hear that your experience wasn't horrific.
I had this procedure done under GA back in 2017 because of all the horror stories I'd read. On that occasion, they found 1 polyp and removed it and all was fine. I had the procedure again a few weeks ago as an out-patient and NOT under GA and it was fine. I was told to take a pain killer an hour before the procedure and I was lucky enough to have a lovely surgeon - she was very calming and talked me through all the options, even offering GA again but I said "no, let's get it done and dusted now". It was actually fine - just cramping pains like period pain as you say and it took about 30 minutes, I think. There were two nurses in the room as well as the surgeon, one nurse holding my hand but she didn't need to to be fair - they were all so nice. They found 1 large polyp and removed it there and then and I'm waiting to hear the biopsy results - my surgeon said it 'looked OK'. I drove straight home after the procedure and I was fine. The only thing I felt was actually a few days later and I was a bit weepy but never in horrendous pain.
I would say to any ladies reading these posts - don't let any stories put you off having the procedure because it's so important to have it done. Speak to your consultant, TELL them your anxious (if you are) and ask questions and find out your options before-hand - no-one should suffer undue pain for such a (well any) procedure.
I'm in the UK by the way so clearly I have no idea what this is like anywhere else in the world.

Please don't let your fear and anxiety stop you going for your hysteroscopy. I have had two, the first one I nearly cancelled, I was petrified but as I had been referred on the 2ww pathway, I knew it was important. I didn't have local anaesthetic for the first one, hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy and insertion of mirena coil, it was no where near as bad as I expected it to be, just uncomfortable.
When I went to have my coil changed after five years, the threads had disappeared so I had to have a hysteroscopy to see where the coil was, local anaesthetic this time which was fine, coil located, removed, consultant did some biopsies as well while he was in there, new coil, all sorted. Again, uncomfortable but nothing more, would have been fine to go back to work but managed to get it done on a Saturday.
Everybody's experience will be different but you will be well looked after and the team will stop at anytime if you are struggling or in pain x

I had this done today…I was offered gas and air which I accepted and I’m glad I did…I feel I can tolerate an adequate amount of pain and there were moments of discomfort and there were moments i was puffing on that G&A like my life depended on it!! From entering the room to leaving I was in for 37 mins…that included signing the consent form, getting changed and all the prep throughout the procedure!
I was able to watch the monitor and the HCAs & Dr was pointing everything out to me which was interesting and a nice distraction! I had a large polyp removed but they couldn’t reach the smaller one as the scope wasn’t long enough!
They did a biopsy/scraping at the end which for me was the worst bit…felt like they were just twisting barbed wire around inside me! A bit of cramping since leaving the hospital but not needed to take any pain relief…yet!!
For reference, I’ve had 1 child by emergency c section (10 years ago) - not sure if it’s any different for people who have had vaginal births/no pregnancies!? She did say that the section made a difference with how my cervix is now - can’t really remember the details as I was concentrating on the G&A 🤣

I had this procedure done yesterday. For me, it was quite painful, the most painful part was the tube going from the vagina into the uterus. I had massive cramps, I felt sick. After it was inside, the pain started to subside and they found a polyp. The removal of it felt like a pinching pain, but not as bad, it was really fast, but very uncomfortable. I felt sick for a while after it. They said it was worse because I haven't had a vaginal birth, just a C section. I hope I never have to go through that again.

I went for hysteroscopy today, thought it would be smooth sailing but it wasnt, I had staff in the room who were supportive but I could not tolerate the pain and procedure had to be stopped. This should be done under general anaesthetic. I had to drive home and I had hot/cold flushes, dizziness so although you may be strong I would recommend that you take someone with you just incase. They have now decided to do an MRI to check if there is a polyp before going ahead with another procedure under general anaesthetic.

I just had this done today and I’m still on tramadol as we speak. From waking up from anesthesia I remember them trying to feed me and I was more focused on the pain, but that was my anesthesia talking because as soon as I got pain medicine I am mediately went to sleep in the recovery room. Once I woke up I was so hungry and thirsty since you’re not allowed to eat or drink the night prior.
The remaining pain that I felt was similar to really bad menstrual cramps since your uterus and cervix was manipulated. Aside from the annoyance of menstrual cramps, I didn’t feel any actual pain different from monthly cycles. The only thing I was really paying attention to was that my oxygen levels were low which was quickly resolved, and that my nausea was a little off from the tramadol. Other than that every 30 minutes to an hour I would get visited by the nurse and would immediately go back to sleep until she came for her next check in. I was extremely comfortable, and for some reason I felt like an excited little kid every time I got more graham crackers 😂😂😂

Not everyone can cope with this without pain relief and there is also the issue of STENOSIS, whereby they can't access the cervix at all. Lots of older women have stenosis.

I had this done this morning under anesthesia. Thank god. and am now looking at videos to see what the hell i had done. Lol. I don’t know why i didn’t think to look before i went in.
Once i was in the surgery room, they said they were giving me some “medicine” (didn’t use the word anesthesia) and they didn’t do any sort of count down, so when I woke up, i said “did you do the surgery already?” I didn’t know they’d even given me the anesthesia let alone done the procedure. Lol.
The worst part for me was the nurse putting the IV in my vein in my hand. She kept digging the IV deeper and deeper and then it was burning and then my arm was going numb. I had no idea that would be a hard thing. I don’t think it’s as bad for most people or i would have heard about it! I think the nurse did it wrong maybe or i was just caught off guard. It felt like when I’ve gotten dry needling done in my muscles.
I had cramping after and was super hungry so they gave me saltines, jello, applesauce, ginger ale and apple juice. (I kept asking for more food lol so if you’re hungry and thirsty, ask away!)
They also gave me oxycodone, which helped and then i came home and slept a lot of today. It was my first surgery and i was really scared, but I’d do it again tomorrow if i needed to because it was easy and only 20 min.
The 4 hour heart surgery ablation that my doctor is recommending on the other hand is freaking me out. I don’t know if i can get the courage to do it. But this one was easy minus the IV pain but that subsided after maybe 5 or 6 minutes

Doctors like this man should be ashamed of spreading blatant lies!!!!!
Informed consent means knowing how much pain could occur during the procedure.
Notice how he stated that he would explain the procedure AFTER you have signed the consent form. That speaks volumes.
Women need to ask more questions and STOP expecting doctors to tell you the truth.
Be your own advocate and INSIST procedures only be done if adequate analgesia is guaranteed.

These videos are less than honest, and are deliberately downplaying the severe pain that some women may feel.

Ladies listen...dont delay and dont over think.
I had this done 2nd time today.
    We have been through worse.
Hysteroscopy is NOT an invasive procedure, there wont be any cut or blood. Its a simple fine tube going through ur vagina to uterus, its like a canal, no obstruction (unless u have polyps etc).
So there is zero pain (uncomfortable sure) but no pain.
    TRUST ME LADIES
I have a low pain threshold and i am a hypochondriac and a single mother no family and many other problem but i had this done twice without any sedation or anaesthetic because its 5-10 minutes painless straight forward procedure. Trust me.
Only biopsies and polyp removal will hurt but for that Doctor will inject u with local anaesthetic so u wont feel a thing.
Pls dont scare others. Its a life saving check up and painless.

Nobody is saying "don't do it". We're just saying "ask for pain relief"

General anaesthetic is best for this as you don’t feel a thing and you can ask for it too. I did as I know I can’t bear pain much and they agreed immediately.

Of course its invasive, and yes there is blood.
Ladies if you can get a GA.
The NHS are trying to save money by doing this barbaric hysteroscopy in outpatients.

This video is awful. This procedure should be done minimally with a local anesthetic, and spinal block or GA, these should be offered also to women who have experienced pain with procedures or pelvic exams in the past. They all minimize pain, mostly the two physicians. Instead of telling they try to make a woman less anxious, by talking to her about Christmas, they should focus on how the proper type of anesthesia could be explained and not minimize what the pain could be... It is a shame this is put on line by the NHS, paid with our taxes.
