I know, right! I would see him every time he would come to Chicago. I even went to his dressing room once to meet him and every time he came to Chicago I would yell out the phrase, “sounds like George” and he would acknowledge me. I miss him so much. I play him every day.
Philly Soul, George was a brilliant musician and sax man. Saw him perform in Philadelphia and loved it. Gone way too soon but left his mark on us forever!!! Stan.
Of all the smooth jazz cuts from the eighties, and there were so many great ones, this is right up there with the best.Tragically sad to lose GH so young.
I agree with you, Leroy A. Joseph! George Howard is definitely unheralded! Well said, indeed! Every year, it seemed to be, he released a new album--from "Asphalt Garden" to "Midnight Mood, sadly, the last album of his life, at age 41 in March 1998. No one sounded like Mr. Howard then and no one has since (thankfully)! "Stanley's Groove" has such a percolating, insistent groove--and that was part of the beauty of the sound of George Howard's music. He could have you dancing with a song like this and in the next minute, he would move you to tender emotions in songs such as the gentle ballad "My Love, Her Inspiration," a song on which he was featured from Stanley Clarke's "Hideaway" album during the late 1980s. It's wonderful that his artistry still is being appreciated! He was unique! Thank you for sharing. God bless you, the family of Geoege Howard, and all.
Master of the Alto 🎷 playing a Masterpiece of his work. Bad azz dude that I dearly😢miss. Have every cassette he ever made. Favorite hard to pick but for me it's Late Night.
I know just what you mean, George Glenn! They really don't anymore. That was a creative era when contemporary instrumental jazz artists truly had their own voice. Very different era now, as we know, however. Now it seems that artists such as George Howard, I've noticed, are being referred to as "legacy artists." And what a beautiful musical legacy he left! We could expound on this indefinitely, no doubt. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
george died way to soon . i managed to cop a few of his albums llike personal got that grover washington flavor. this song validates every man named stanley.stan.
Terrific jazz groove. George was a rare gem of a musician. By the way, if you like this, maybe check out Old School by Everette Harp. See what you think. Thanks for sharing.
