I work for DOJ… in Colorado we have 24/7 interpreter services, thus in many cities, regardless government MUST pay for services and there is ALWAYS interpreter 24/7…. VRI is not personally recommended because there’s no witness nearby. (No kidding here) we all deaf and hard of hearing have the priorities to choose “any type on sight or vri to your case” in this hearing world, hearing government tends take the laws in their own hands even in small towns like city of Arvada. Many will label you unstable, threats or red flag. Government knows we deaf and hard of hearing have limited sources….. taken advantage of you. I’m one of the victims. Get a lawyer, let them speak on your behalf. Never ever talk directly.

We were foster parents for several years. We experienced many delays in court because the Spanish interpreter did not show up for my kids' bio mom. The wheels of CPS turn slowly. I am afraid of leaving any of my kids in the vehicle for any length of time at any location for this very reason. Not because I'm concerned about the kids. I trust my judgment. But people will often call CPS if they see kids in a vehicle without an adult. Be careful.

I ended up in tears at my daughter's specialist appointment when they used VRI. I had requested an interpreter in advance, and that's what I got. It was better than nothing. The interpreters were all very good, but I had to go through 3 or 4 of them for the appointment. The X-Ray technician refused to use VRI. I had to remind the nurse not to start without the interpreter. She listened. I had to do the same thing again with the doctor. He didn't listen. I believe he only made small talk with my 10 year old daughter, but I don't know for certain. And sometimes we had to wait for an interpreter to be available. It should be used as a last resort only. It was a nightmare. If VRI is necessary, I strongly believe that it should not be timed out for short waits.

VRI is not a good solution. In hospitals, doctors’s offices, the doctors, nurses admit their frustration with VRI’s slow connections. Internet ranges get so vary, mostly slow that they cut through the appointments. Too sad.

Yes, sad true story lots deaf people frustrated they delay because of an interpreter. Also, they pass to take the class then too soon back together with family but, seem they give them longer years some people lucky 6 months or 1 year. Some deaf mom longer years. Where is a state in California in Riverside, Los Angeles, commerce, and anywhere city? It's worse cps took kids their parents deaf. Their different situation why a reason cps. Deaf CAN DO IT! You all right and be Brave speak out DONT BE Afraid!!!
PLEASE BE SAFE AND BE CAREFUL. God Bless you deaf community. 💔

What a nightmare. It’s good to know the ADA rights. I agree that there should be interpreter services readily available on a national level.

I feel that the situation with Kimber and Brent should have been settled for way more than 300K. That is not even close to a fair amount for losing your kids for over a year for no good reason. There is no dollar amount to make it right but to me that should have been a million or more.
