I am 1,3,5,6,7, and 10, trying to become 8, and 9 and sometimes an uncontrollable 11!

I am 6 and 9 cause I sometimes railfan in the harsh snow or rain. I am sometimes 4 as well cause of certain things including not getting my monthly dose of railfanning

I've been a 2 all my life. I would beg my parents to choose the train over the car or bus for the same destination. I still like to get to the station well before my departure and watch anything passing through, whether freight or passenger. Recently I was telling my dad that I'm still a train enthusiast after all these decades, and was happy to learn that he's very much interested in trains too. And some of his favorite travel memories include the beautiful train routes across Western and Central Europe. The rest of my family respects my interest, but they don't really 'get' it. I'd be a '9' if only I could meet a friend who's patient enough to join in the wait. It's more fun to share in the excitement.
The new trains in Austin look very European
I'm the kind of person who slows down a little bit when I see a rail crossing in the distance in the hopes that the gates will go down and I'll have a reason to stop and watch from a front row seat.
As someone whose been a Railfan for a decade, this is so accurate and relatable! I am definitely 1, 6, 7, 9 & 10. Lol 😂
I'd love to be #3 again but I'm too lazy to set up my SDR and mount a VHF antenna all over again. Plus I often need it for monitoring other stuff.
Let me describe myself...
1: The angle I set up almost every time I railfan.
5: I like to check any wayside signals nearby for any indication for oncoming trains.
6: I always like to prefect the angle I’m shooting to make a great outcome.
7: I sometimes rush a lot to get crossing activations and trains in time, lol.
8: Sometimes, I like to choose locations where it makes for a cool and creative shot.
9: Most of the time just like to be dedicated on getting any train or crossing no matter if it is boring or interesting.
10: I may easily sprint to my camera once I see something coming so I can start recording at the right time.
11: Technically, I’m something else but it’s related to 11, I sometimes call myself a “silent foamer” since I often get pretty excited for a cool unit or something, though I of course do not speak out anything about it no matter what, lol.

I’m an adult now and have been for a while but there’s something about giving the engineer a big arm pump and getting the air horn that still makes me smile

I'm all of them except 9 and 3, and hope to become 9 when I'm older! (Well that sounded weird!) Also, I think every railfan is basically a foamer, but silent!
Update: I've learned some things about the railfan community, and let me just say, that no matter what type of railfan you are, you're still loved! Okay? As everyone in the railfan community is now fighting over things like this, and someone needs to put a sop to it! But I can't do it alone, so who's with me?!

Cool! I recently heard a crew say "those foamers are dedicated" over the radio after I'd been waiting 2 hours for a train to build.
@@TheCentralTexasRailfan hah! Yeah some of us are. Thing is the difference between a railfan and foamer is that foamers tend to be rude and cuss up a storm, stand on the tracks as a train is coming and are just all around retards. But railfans are like foamers minus everything except liking trains.
A unique railfan was Ralph Ketner, the founder of Foodtown (renamed Food Lion). The legend was he could stand there watching the train go by and add up the car numbers and give a total once the end of the train went by.
To be fair it's not really that hard to count cars as long as you don't get distracted lol

I am the rush and the signal checker. I always go into rush mode when i hear a trains horn in the distance. Also i get excited when i see a green signal!!
As someone who lives in Chicago, near the city, omfg i hate elevated bridges and whenever i hear a crossing its so great
I've been a few of these! 🤣 9 sucks, but when they're rare, you gotta do it!
I am definitely the crossing fan, ATCS and signal checker, the perfect angle, the in a rush, the creative shot, and the sprinter, but also you gotta add the crazy chaser where you chase trains 100+ miles!
I'm the forgotten 12th railfan type who prefers the infrastructure and it's history over the actual trains running.😎
I used to spend a lot of time watching the La Plata Missouri stream on UA-cam. Eventually I realized that most of the people were watching trains, while I was watching a railroad. While they were counting the number of cars, judging horns and hoping for a "meet", I was looking at the mixture of the cars on the manifest trains and whose names were on the side of the containers on the intermodal trains.
As the virus problem was happening, I would make observations about how this was going to change the mix of railroad traffic and the type of imports that were going to come in through Los Angeles and Long Beach. A typical response was that it was against the rules to talk about politics 😆. Railroads and politics and the labor disputes are inseparable. Many of the railroads that exist today are a direct result of the fact that Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer who was working for the Illinois Central Railroad as a lobbyist.
#12 the "chaser" = risky, but drives on roadway next to tracks filming a moving train! (safer when a driver is available to drive the car)
Just made a sequel to this video, which has the chaser.
I done that 2-3 times they go slow which makes it easier for me
A possible addition could be the horn identifier and judger who likes to critique horns and point out defective equipment or horns that are inconsistent with the locomotive

I'm literally almost entirely 2, considering the fact that I pretty much only film Commuter Trains.
I also have a pretty good amount of 6 and 9 in me as well. I occasionally take risks to get good shots.
Let's face it. We all have at least a tiny bit of 11 in us. Unfortunately, I seem to have a bit more of it than the average person, even if I'm feeling calm. I try to only let it out when the train I'm filming is parked and not moving, though. But it's tough.

Lol I used to get excited over mid-DPUs too, but now that a quarter of all trains in my area have them I couldn't care less.
Lol I saw my first mid dpu last month in Barboursville West Virginia. I didn't have a stroke over it tho😂

As a railroader, and i have been railfanned a few times and one of the trains i had is on UA-cam but i have seen 9 a whole lot!! Especially here in Chicago with the weather we get here.

#1, Why wouldnt you?, #2 hell no, #3 nope, #4 sometimes, #5 HELL YES, #6 YOU KNOW IT, #7 all the time, #8 sometimes also, #9 idc about the conditions, a shot is a shot, #10 every day when i hear a really faint horn, #11 not suprising, i live next to the Austin Western Railroad and i see different types of engines all the time

I'm usually number 4. I stay in my truck and put my window down. Unless it's REALLY nice outside and the train is REALLY special.

I'm definitely a #3 because how else am I supposed to figure out if there's anything out there lol. Sometimes a #5 when I'm getting anxious, and DEFINITELY a #6 lol.

You forgot chasing trains in a car with your foamer friends, camera lenses hanging out the window and succeeding not getting a speeding ticket in order to "get the shot".

I’m a nine, even if I know there most likely won’t be a train, or if it’s pouring rain, if it’s freezing out, if it’s 100° outside! I am dedicated!
My favorites when i worked for the railroad were the ones who would dress in full PPE...hard hat and all and stand there with their 6 cameras filming the trains.

I’m the signal watcher, the in a rush, (when I’m going out to Railfan) the dedicated, and the sprinter well I think the sprinter ties into being in a rush kinda.
I'm 0:31, 0:51 ,0:59 and 1:48 Combined except I don't film the signals and ATCS, I only want the best camera angle! And I guess I'm dedicated as I railfan in blizzards! Good video.

im the "in the rush one" I was making my way I saw the train coming so I pulled to the side of the road. On a residential street. After I pulled over the signal activated so it was a gotta move fast moment so I can get a good shot of the main cab passing by
another moment my phone was in focus mode so I quickly pulled out my other phone ( when I upgrade my line I keep the old phone)
