Lego WW1 - The Gallipoli Campaign - stop motion

- In the latter months of 1914, with the trenches of World War One bringing the war in Europe to a standstill, the Allies needed an alternative way to defeat Germany and the Central Powers.
The Allies decided that capturing Constantinople and defeating the Ottoman Empire, one of the Central Powers, was Their best course of action to gain the upper hand in the war.
They assumed the Ottomans would not offer much resistance, since the empire was in decline and their military was not as technologically advanced as the European armies.
Anyone who wanted to reach Constantinople via the Mediterranean Sea would have to pass through the Dardanelles Strait, which is adjacent to the Gallipoli Peninsula, and this was where the Allies planned to begin their attack.
The Gallipoli Campaign began in the early months of 1915, with the Allies launching a naval attack against the Ottoman fortifications along the Gallipoli Peninsula, however, Ottoman artillery and naval mines were able to sink many of the ships before they could do any significant damage to the coastal defenses.
The Allies now knew that if they were to defeat the Ottomans it would have to be on land, and so in April 1915, the Gallipoli landings commenced.
In the early morning, thousands of Allied soldiers, which included many men from Australia and New Zealand, climbed into small wooden rowboats and were sent ashore at various points along the peninsula.
Ottoman resistance in many areas was fierce and many of the soldiers were killed before they reached the shore, despite this, by the end of the day, all of the beaches where the Allies landed had been captured.
The initial success did not last however, as Ottoman reinforcements arrived and secured the hills above the coast, halting any significant advance by the Allies.
Fighting would continue in the following months, with neither side being able to achieve a decisive victory, until December, with their soldiers not much closer to Constantinople than when they first landed ashore, the Allies made the decision to cease their attacks at Gallipoli and evacuate the peninsula.
In the end, close to 60,000 Allied soldiers and an estimated 60,000-90,000 Ottomans soldiers lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign.

Another amazing animation. The Gallipolli Campaign was catastrophic for both sides. Anyone had no idea why were they fighting. Born as a Turkish, may all of the soldiers' (no matter if they are Ottoman or ANZAC or British) souls rest in eternal peace
well said.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget, the Ottomans and ANZACs and British and French who fought and perished in the scorching trenches and on the towering cliffs.
@@carrott36 as an Aussie... that was beautiful mate. thank you.
Being Australian 🇦🇺 we grew up knowing this and remember them on ANZAC Day every year. A very big part of our history. The only complaint is that the hats are on the wrong way. They are raised on the left not the right. Great effects
My complaint is that, here, the Turks are using American M1903 Springfield rifles. I'm pretty sure that they actually used K98 Mausers.
Anyways the anzac soldiers didnt want the fight in wide from their homeland
I’m New Zealander so this stop motion is important to all Australians and New Zealanders
@@txgunguy2766 idk if there are lego prints of specific guns

The Lego Aussies here had the correct SMLE Mk3. Some with and some without bayonets.
It could be nice to see the scene of bullet impacting to another bullet or enemies (allied and ottomans) sharing food and stuff to each other. There are letters from Anzac commanders about all the stories in Gallipoli. Big respect to soldiers who fought for both sides.
Rest In Peace to all the British, Australians, New Zealanders, French and Turkish soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli, lest we forget
Yea nobody seems to care about the french involvement.

You know the both ironic and tragic thing about this video is that it basically sums up the whole Gallipoli experience for ANZACs: getting off of a beach.
Fantastic video by the way, well done!
This is the first Lego stop motion video that I have seen on Gallipoli, thank you for these ANZAC troops deserved more. For an Aussie this means a lot.
I do know that you might of took a lot of time working on this video and adding all good parts in this scene I do also like the tanks in this video and the shooting scenes. I would also rate this video 9-10 only because I thought you could of done a little better.

Cliffs of Gallipoli
by Sabaton:
Hear them whisper
Voices from the other side
Hear them calling
Former foes now friends are resting side by side
They will never
Leave our hearts or fade away
Live forever
They were far too young to die in such a way
How many wasted lives
How many dreams did fade away
Broken promises they won't be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears
Your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last
As foe turned to friend and forgive
And they knew they'd die
Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life, Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust
Hell is waiting where the ocean meets the sand
Cliffs of burden
Where the soldiers rushed into a certain death
At the shoreline
Blood of heroes stains the land light a candle
One for each of them who fought and died in vain
There is no enemy
There is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed
Their names are carved in stone and kept alive
And forever we will honour the memory of them
And they knew they would die
Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life, Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust
How many wasted lives
How many dreams did fade away
Broken promises
They won't be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears
Your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last
As foe turned to friend and forgive
And they knew they would die

Блин, это же насколько тогда люди были смелые и бесстрашные, что шли в атаку в полный рост. Там есть кадр, когда два бойца поднимаются на холм, на котором окопы противника и, естественно, их убивают, как можно быть такими бесстрашным?!
Great video.
You portrayed both sides fairly, no bias.
I love the hand to hand combat. It feels and looks great.
One thing that would make this video historically accurate is switching this to real humans instead of lego, as WWII Service members were humans not play characters.

as a Turk, it is gratifying to remember that we also took part in the war. we are one of the countries that have received the heaviest loss of land. I have read many books and watched movies about Gallipoli, as well as a TV series shot by Australians! I went to visit the Çanakkale Monument when I was very young, now I want to go again. All soldiers who fight bravely deserve respect. Respect for all soldiers who defended their homeland.
And stop saying Constantinople, this is Istanbul. Istanbul is our city and it has to be called whatever we want.
Historically and at this time it was called Constantinople lest we forget Both Turkish, Australian, New Zealanders and British soilders🇹🇷❤️🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧
@@B52wegotarunner Yes, at that time the Turks also called it Konstantiniyye. I found out about it later, too. and yes, humanity should never forget how much imperialism harms innocent people. 💚

Greetings. I am writing from Russia. These are just incredible films. The quality is at the highest level! I'm amazed. There are not enough words to describe the beauty of your work done. You showed different warriors, including the Second World War. I understand that it would be brazen to ask me alone, but I would like to see some Soviet battles. The war in Afghanistan or the same World War II. I would show it to everyone and would be incredibly happy. Of course, if you don't want to do this, I understand you. But still... that would be one of the best things I could look at. Thanks
Absolutely beautiful work can't imagine finding all these bricks and making the actual scenes is an easy feat at all

Very well done. Thank you. Interesting fact, Newfoundland fought for the British and have many graves in Gallipoli war cemeteries. During the time of the First World War (1914-18), Newfoundland was a dominion of the British Empire and not yet a part of Canada. Thank you again.

Ngl is pretty good very historic look at how much effort you used on this lego stop motion good job :D
What a masterpiece! Well done 👍🏻
this is a amazing animation as someone who had a few family members fought at Gallipoli this is a good way to show what ww1 was like
We often think of how scary it is to to be a soldier in D-Day, but we rarely think of a soldier storming another beach with little to no protection and a weak rifle.
Ikr the ANZACs were basically cannon fodder
@@australianmasterchief not really Anzac cove was the Anzac front the brits had there own front at Helles were they lost tens of thousands of men
I would say D Day would still be worse no disrespect to the Anzacs but the landings at Anzac cove were met by scattered Turkish centuries because they weren’t expecting them to land a little bit more to the right so the Anzacs weren’t met by machine guns on the beach and well entrenched troops and fortifications but what made the Anzac cove landings deadly was the terrain and the fight in the hills and gully’s and lack of communication. Company’s of men would be lost and the Turks with better knowledge of the area were able to out position them and shoot at them from above and concentrate there efforts on one group at a time making sure that the Anzacs were not able to group up and over power them.
@@ruthlessgaming3869 at least the allies won D-day
@@australianmasterchief yeah but the Anzacs did good too they were just in harsher terrain
My great grandfather fought at Gallipoli. It's so cool to see a stop motion about it :D
Honestly Gallipoli doesn’t get enough attention. It was a huge loss of life and why Churchill lost trust from so many British citizens, go look Gallipoli up, it’s interesting.
This is a professional standard, man!
I LOVE THIS FILM!!!
D-Day, WW1 version at 1:02
Intimations get better and better easily one of my favorite Lego animator
Learning about Gallipoli was kinda weird for me because I am Australian but also Turkish as well…ya…so every time I went to write an essay about that invasion my parent would often come into my room and talk to me about it and I’ll admit it was kinda bias but I’m still proud to be an Australian and just a month ago I went to Gallipoli and went to the Turkish cemetery there and it’s was and still is a bit weird seeing both side of the same conflict, from being at the beaches of Gallipoli to every year giving one minute of silence to the ANZACS is a bit odd but cool at the same time
WWI is weird already because one can't clearly say that one side was the good guy and the other the bad guy. In the end...it was a tragedy for the innocent soldiers both sides.
Your videos are a great asset to my homeschool history class. My young teenager really get interested after watching and is eager to learn more of the story. Thanks!
Interesting fact: The chorus of The University of Washington's fight song "Bow Down To Washington" (written in 1915) contains the following lines: 🎶 _"Our boys are there with bells, their fighting blood excels/ It’s harder to push them over the line than pass the Dardanelles"_ 🎶
This is really cool! I've never seen this battle before. It's like D-Day but in WW1!!
Not quite. The fighting lasted months as it quickly devolved into trench warfare in the scorching environment. The allied soldiers retreated into a place now known as ANZAC cove after incredible amounts of fighting, before making a miraculous retreat with the only casualty being a sailor who fell off his boat. Whilst people love to compare it to D-Day, it really wasn’t much like it.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget. Not just the ANZACs or French or British or Ottomans, but the terrible danger they faced. I hope the trend isn’t continued that the campaign constantly gets labelled as no more than a failed Normandy. No fault of yours at all. 🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧🇫🇷🇹🇷

The Ottoman army would not fire until the enemy got onto the beach during the Battle of Gallipoli due to lack of ammunition, still everything looks accurate apart from that.

I’ve heard accounts that rowing the boat was a dangerous job due to incoming Ottoman fire and the fact that if you were rowing you were more exposed and couldn’t return fire, showing that the Ottomans did indeed fire as their opponents approaches in their boats.
