  • Learn how to be a better rider instead of looking for loopholes! Karen Pavicic is a professional rider with funding and sponsor who expect her to conduct herself and compete in a professional manner. Unfortunately, this week she has chosen to choose a loophole that allows her to compete among the amateurs at the CDI 1* in Wellington,Florida.
As seasoned professional, Canadian Pan Am team member and Olympic hopeful, one would hope, Karen Pavicic would make choses to help grow and encourage more people in the sport. Instead she is looking for loopholes in the system to chase a blue ribbon! This is where dressage fails in the future.
Here is a link to an article that was written as a response to this video, after Karen Pavicic competed as an amateur. This Blog is written as one professional to another and provides some well thought out points of the impact of this move on dressage as a whole. fortheloveofjake.wordpress.co...

But the thing is, she is an amateur..
She skipped stages, to get to the top, before she was ready, and now she has to pay for it.
Should she compete against amateurs, no, because she has gone to far.. She can no longer be viewed as an amateur, that was her career choice, and now she's gotta pay for it.
I was an amateur dog handler, but the dog wasn't, so I had to compete in the level as the dog was in. I lost. Which happens, when you try to rush something. (it was just for fun, with someone else's dog)
It didn't matter how good the dog was, because I wasn't ready for that level.
Karen isn't really good enough for her level, but she has gotten there, and now she has to stay there.
Better work on yourself Karen... 😜

To even compare the sports of dog shows to this isn't even close to being the same. A well trained dog will basically do all the work. You just follow and act like you know what you're doing. A good judge judges the dog not you. A good judge can pick out a novice handler every time. Take a bleeding or skittish dog into the show ring and watch how fast you get a DQ.

What I don't understand is, why the judges don't do anything. See a horse that has a blue tongue or is in rollkur score a 0. Watch and see how fast the dressage world changes. I don't like dressage anyway. I used to love it but you could see horse and riders work together and dance. Now it's mostly just abuse. Sorry but as soon as the rider desperately wants a 10 cents ribbon, the horse loses. And that needs to change.

@Lokibae - 👍 👏👏👏 So well expressed & written. I agree, I despise it now as well. Even the Judging system is corrupt & subjective, unlike Stadium Jumping & Cross Country. The only group in Dressage that is kind to their horses is Dujardine (sp?) from G. Britain - tons of ♥️ & free time, pasturing for her/ their horses.... and she wins. SHE should write the Rules to change & improve this sport (?).

Yes, they've lost me completely. I feel SO sorry for these horses. Between Rolkur, Shock Spurs, Steroids, cruel bits, Feed Withholding - as punishment (WTF?) Let's not forget little to Zero time off, No Turnouts & for those few who do - mostly an hour or two sporadically & seldomly. The others are 100% stall bound w/ the owners LYING & saying their Insurance Policy won't allow it, etc., etc. It's a big, fat lie. And now.... the worst offenders are fighting so that the Public can't witness what happens to their horses during Warm-Up! If you're not doing anything wrong - then why the need for secrecy???? In my opinion - the Germans are the most brutal & cruel with their training methods. To be fair, I have not heard actual accounts of Russian, Chinese or Brazillian methods. 🤔

Unnatural thing to do to a horse. Blue tongue? Bad. Unnatural neck bend? Bad. Ouch. Winning at any cost.... cost to the animal .... I really don’t care for all this competition that destroys the horse/rider respect and any positive communication. And the dressage crowd sits and watches and applauds and the riders earn their points while their horses mouths bleed and their tongues turn blue. Depressing.

    • @dnr2089

I entirely agree. I’m pretty sure that dressage didn’t used to be as brutal as this? I rode a Welsh Mountain pony as a child in shows, on a double bridle but I was complemented on my soft hands and there were never any mouth issues. By the way, the pony I rode would naturally arch his neck even in a snaffle.

  • @lorrainewaters6189

I wish judges would give a "4" to any movement performed with the horse's nose behind the vertical. Only then will dressage regain its legitimacy, in my view. It would be much more exciting to watch.

  • @oliviamae3281

Isn't that surely the fault of the sport, I'm pretty sure in most sports if you qualify professionally, you can't just then decide because you aren't winning as much to enter amateur competitions, simply because you want to. The people in charge let her do it, so they must think it's ok. (No hateful or bullying comments required, Thanks).

    • @exceednexcel

@@clfisher10 Do it at a regular show at an appropriate level. Not being able to compete in amateur classes does not mean you have to take a green horse and shove it into a grand prix. It can start from the bottom just like all other horses, but in a class where the other green horses are ridden by professionals too, and not amateurs.

    • @rachaelwhitlock2917

@@clfisher10 I am by no means a professional, but I know whenever we went to shows, my trainer would take green horses to the shows and not compete with them, but just bring them to the environment so they got used to being to the chaos and energy of shows without worrying about winning. I also showed quite a few horses whom I knew would not place well just to get them used to showing and have fun. I assume people at higher levels might do similar things to get their horses more comfortable with show environments.

If you truly believe that some horses just hold their mouths open, you need to put down the Kool aid, go through detox and read the rules and regs for dressage at a very minimum. Stay educated. Also, if you believe and a wanna be Olympian is doing nothing wrong competing as an amateur just give your head a shake. The cocaine or vodka has clearly blurred your conscious.

How often do you see horses, out in the field, walking around with their mouth open?
They open it, because we put a pain device in there. And then we put this pressure on that device.
And when the horse says ouch, we close its mouth shut with a noseband, and then we blame the horse for acting up, and that it should just accept the bit..
The horse is difficult, the horse is stupid, the horse is.....
Or the rider has hard hands, the bit doesn't fit that horses mouth, and so on..
I could ride my horse without a noseband, and I was holding her back by my little finger, while she was galloping on the spot in frustration, as her barn friend, run off with her rider.. And she didn't open her mouth..
But that was after 2 years off with working out what she needed from me..
