  • You have one job as an equestrian. That is to set your horse up for success. That means from stable to show ring you are doing all of the things necessary for your dressage horse (or any horse) to be awesome.
    Ashley Holzer has once again failed to do this one simple thing for horse grand prix dressage horse Valentine. Many of you might remember Valentine from a series of dressage disaster videos we did during the 2021 season. In these videos we repeatedly watched Ashley Holzer set Valentine up for success. Instead, we watched a trigger-stacked and frantic horse repeatedly go down centerline to compete in dressage.
    Here are those videos:
    • Ashley Holzer Nails Th...
    The 2022 season in Wellington, Florida has kicked off and once again we watch Ashley Holzer fail to set Valentine up for success in the Grand Prix Dressage Freestyle. This video is interesting because the camera angle does not allow us to see much of the disaster that is happening. We see the hind end frantic and out of place.
    What is even more interesting is that Ashley Holzer has chosen to create and ride a Grand Prix Dressage Freestyle that is way to high of a level of difficulty for her horse. When you watch the video the Degree of Difficulty is shown on the bottom left.
    Riders have to submit their floorplan beforehand and if the judges accept the degree of difficulty as being completed then the light will turn green. During the grand prix dressage freestyle with Ashley Holzer and Valentine we see one green light. This means that 95% of this floorplan was unable to be executed by her horse. And as an equestrian, she has once again failed at being a good equestrian.

    Here we go again. This is downright abuse. She never takes her spurs out of the horses' side. This is clear evidence of Rollkur. Her abusive use of the inside rein, almost constant use of spyrs, her horse is not straight at all - which appears to be an evasion of the death grip she has on the horse with legs and hands, during the piaffe she is jerking on the reins. All of this resulted in the horse stumbling and fumbling during the entire test. It's not just abusive but is a degradation to the spirit of this horse. Yet another example of the appalling disregard FEI officials has for the well-being of the horse.

    • @allegraadams3037

      I’m sorry, but the use of the spurs is so they can have an infinitely more complex cue system as is the tightening and loosening of the reins. If you knew anything about dressage, you would realize that. In fact, I dare you to go get on a horse, and try to make it do any of these movements and see how far you get.

      @@allegraadams3037 There is use and abuse. If the horse is correctly trained a d working off ALL aids, the going the spur on the horse the whole rude _not necessary. The problem with Rollkur is they yank the head in the dig the spurs in to make them move forward. Thus the horse ends up in the wrong frame.

    What a lovely horse who deserves a rider who is calm and more sensitive than this rough forceful one. Painful to watch. She looks better suited to a rocking horse.

    Appreciate the explanation on the DOD and the lights.
    Also, don't competitors have to achieve a certain level of success at lower levels, before they can enter the Grand Prix levels? So, they are allowed to continue entering competitions at the highest levels, with so many mediocre or failed performances stacking up?

    The horse is lovely, the rider not so much. I just can't fantom- how can anyone compete when they just don't have anything to show to the judges... Go train more and show on when you do have something to show us.

    Everyone who is an advanced dressage rider know this happens every now and then, the horse is bothered by something, has a pal at the stall and he’s whining for him to come back, there is a flag flapping in the wind, etc. Then you have amateurs who compete once a year or maybe not at all; they will make all kinds of condemning comments from the comfort of their bed.

      You have got to be kidding me. This horse is only spooking at the appalling abuse this rider inflicts on this horse. If a rider at this level cannot handle a "spooky horse," they shouldn't be riding this level.

      If she would’ve dealt with it the best she could, she would’ve stopped immediately. Even if it were the case, being harsh to your horse doesn’t solve its fear. It takes patience, and that’s the last thing this rider is showing here..
      But let’s not act he’s spooking.. He’s not.

      @claudia273 2 роки тому +5

      You’re right, this horse is far from comfortable. This is a perfect example of a rider that doesn’t really knows and understands her horse. She just asks way too much of him. The difficulty of the exercises is really high. And he’s just not ready for it. Her aids are harsh in an attempt to make him understand. But it just results in frustration and misunderstanding.
      The only fair thing to do was stop, she just made it worse.

      @Claudia You are being far too kind. Again, at this level (which you rightly point out) is a high degree of expertise. She clearly lacks it. But beyond that, it is the abusive tactics. The spurring, the grip of death of hands and legs, the jerking of the horses' mouth - all resulting in this horse trying to evade to the point of stumbling, inconsistent gaits and transitions coupled with a staggering swaying motion in extended trot. It was absolutely painful to watch.

      @janets6474 2 роки тому +3

      @Claudia She was more than 'not understanding her horse'. She was abusive. She wasn't just asking too much of him; she was abusive. Frustration doesn't have to be abusive. How do we really know what the horse is capable of when, right from the moment she entered the ring, she manhandled the horse? ( Even asking the horse to do something beyond what he is capable of, as you suggest, is a mild form of abuse because it sets up a situation for the rider to be unfairly harsh with the aids). We can't keep making excuses for what is clearly meaness, and the judges should have called her out and refused to score her ride.
