WOW, I have a new project in mind, I love your idea, but Im wondering if a better bearing could produce a smoother 'lathe', your method works, but there is plenty of run out on both axis, (Im assuming that is just from the play in the ball bearing itself), Anyone have any ideas?

That was good you made a spinning round thing, I was thinking about the same thing, but using a Toyota front hub, and belt from a motorcycle on the brake rotor with the belt sprocket bolted to back side of brake and a real chuck with proper mounting plate. It would be much more work to do but I think the better stability would be worth it.

This is not correct using only one bearing,,, it will shake continuously when it the motor start running,, if it is expected to do a homemade mini lathe machine...
Muy chueco, con dos rulemanes, uno en cada extremo se alineará el caño mandril. El caño mandril tiene que entrar por el ruleman, no ser cortado en pedazos. Eso también hace que pierda mucho la estabilidad al no ser un solo cuerpo

That depends how often he uses it. All the grit from the grinding will get inside the bearing causing it to fail.
