The Auto-Trail V-Line 540 SE is one of Auto-Trail’s most compact campervan layouts, yet packs in a separate washroom, rear lounge and galley kitchen. Ideal for spontaneous trips for just two people, this versatile Fiat campervan also doubles as an extra vehicle that can handle everyday tasks as well as longer road trips with ease.
Built on the updated Fiat Ducato Series 8, Euro 6D chassis and featuring a 140bhp engine as standard, the V-Line 540 is a small, but perfectly formed campervan.
Normally I only film vans I could fit in but i quite liked this quirky little ting so why not?
Plus my van tours do well and people seem to enjoy them.
Hi! We're Rick, Heather & our dog Poppy and we travel in Pearl our Elddis CV20 campervan.
We film the places we visit as our own diary, these videos are meant as a little memento for us but we're happy to share them with you if you want to watch.
We're just an ordinary couple in our 50's filming our adventures with basic equipment so don't expect loads of flash camera action and super editing with great music.
We also film videos of work we have done on our van as well as van reviews for our reference of the next van we might buy. Occasionally there are hints & tips videos too. We do basic site and area reviews including if they’re dog friendly but they’re a guide only based on our opinions which may or may not help you make an informed decision on if you’d like the place.
We do a mix of off grid camping, pub stopovers plus real campsites too, hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!
Please leave us a comment on the videos, we love reading them and reply to each one.
We try to upload once a week so please consider subscribing to see our travels, it’s free and will really help us.
Thanks for watching!
I had a 2017 version of this van up until a few months back when I changed to a Kemerton XL. I loved it and it would fit in a car park no problem, changed it because we just wanted a little more space now we have a dog and we do much prefer not sleeping transverse in the new van. Great van though and seemed huge after my T6 which I had beforehand.
Yep, exactly what I was getting at in the video, if I’d have been shorter (I’m 6.4) this from my T5 would have been good but I can’t sleep transversely! Nice van though the Kemerton 👍
That is a lovely van, amazes me how much they pack into these 5.4 metre vans. Love Autotrail vans, seem to be hard to come buy these days though, i suppose as every van is, good video Rick ( and of course the lovely Heather )
Thanks 🙏. I like doing these walk around videos and they do well on the channel, just big enough but not too big just a shame you have to sleep across, I’m a bit too tall.
If you could sleep across that wouldn’t be a bad van as easier to park in car parks at that size. Very similar to the Elddis in layout isn’t it all be it slightly different fridge etc and at the bottom - better than I was expecting for the size.
Still prefer the compressor fridge (although the silent ones are appealing!)
Can’t get over the cost though nowadays.
All the best, David 👍
Yes I’m not a fan of the gas fridge which is having a bit of an impact on our next van search. I too wish I was a bit shorter sometimes 😊
I do like this van and has similar layout to us but we have 4 belted seats which is definitely something we need. Take care Gill
Yeah this would suit a couple who maybe wanted rid of the car it’s small enough to use as a daily driver
Looked tidy. Like a Cv40-20 hybrid. We would miss the seating area at the front but great if you want a smaller van. Nice to know you can get a smaller van with washroom and all mod cons. Can’t believe the price tho 🤣
Crazy money!
Una cocina muy completa: tres fogones y horno en un camper de 540 cm. 😁😍
Amazing how they fit it all in!
I have been a frequent visitor to Auto Trail's website drooling over the 540se for a while. The van actually looks longer on there, but it is a perfect size for me. I would leave the bed made up and get a free standing table should I ever have guests (ofc, this is all 'fantasy vanlife'!) I'd prefer overcab storage to Panoview and would be concerned the drainage valves look quite exposed, and could get damaged in rough terrain. But as I won't be cruising around Europe in one of these any time soon, that won't be an issue ☺
Sadly I’m too tall for a van that I have to sleep across
Lovely little van for as you say a older couple or a single person maybe starting out with a van, with you on the rear doors would want to check if these insulated as it seemed a bit tinny when you closed the door, aside from that looks quite smart.
Small enough to use as your only vehicle i think
Lovely skylight? means the van is uninhabitable in hot weather in uk never mind abroad. Where to put the spare bedding and myriad other items that i put in the overcab storage on long offgridf trips?
Not a bad van, tad pricey. I’m on my own now, but wouldn’t want to clart on making the bed up each night.
That’s the issue here, there’s no real lounging area with a small van, a VW T5 style with a rock n roll bed is less faff…
Nice Van, just been talking to a neighbour who wants to sell his Auto Trail 67 so similar to the CV40 and as MY Elddis has been pushed back again (totally Pissed off now) I'm tempted to go nearly new but it needs solar and an underslung gas tank especially as it's gas locker only takes the small Calor bottles which they have just discontinued. Would have considered a nearly new CV40 but people seem to be cashing in at the moment and who can blame them. Cheers K.
Yeah Don Amott are buying loads in to be fair we’re tempted to go early with a van and get ours sold…. Only paid 44.5k gotta be a chance to get our money back
@@RickandHeather You will be in profit but I couldn't imagine the 2 of you without a van.
True. We’re weighing up options on when to swap
Not for me having to unmake and make the bed every day, and stash the bedding away so it cannot air. Imagine that in 30+ weather. Plenty of 5.4m vans with a permanent bed put there.
Why would anyone need a 3 burner stove in a small van?
Was it 3 or 2 I can’t remember (I filmed this in December) ohhh that rhymes.
I’m guessing it’s just whatever they use in most of their builds, probably the units are all modular from other Auto Trail vans?
Bed only 4’3” wide, that would kill it for me
Yeah it’s always a compromise
I had a 540, it was too small. I now have 599 so much better.
Yeah I couldn’t do it… we’re after a 636 now
New dash but a manual handbrake, not electronic I see.
The electric handbrake is an option but not standard
@@RickandHeather manual handbrake is better anyway as most will park up for winter with the handbrake off..
you can not do that with electric handbrake as automatically comes on when you switch off the engine..
That’s very true
That handbrake is a long stretch.
63K? Not a lot for your money.
Prices are crazy these days….
@@RickandHeather you said it, crazy.
