it's truly amazing how much her early work foreshadowed the instagram era beginning in the early '10s...in a way, we all became Cindy Sherman.
...which makes her later works so much more interesting to view, as we see her style and themes develop and become iterated over and over again ad absurdum. love her work ❤

In the library self portrait, I notice the first book is "The Movies". An interesting anecdote, but more for sure.

Always loved her work, such a master of her craft.

The Untitled Series and David Lynch's Eraserhead were birthed roughly during the same period. Presumably neither artist was aware of the other. But, very different as they are, there is some curious resonance between the two works. There is irony in Sherman finding anyone but her 'self' in her self-portraits, while people today take selfies to find or validate a self that's probably as fictional as those in Sherman's pictures.
