never really understood surrealism, but i love hearing these discussions from people who do get it. it’s like learning a new language. also, i just love this painting’s title so much
She wrote this short story "the debutante" and it's sooo good and funny, it's about a girl who hates the idea of having to deal with all the elite expectations and rules that young girls face and she convinced a wild animal to go in her place
The painting looks to be a continuation of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. The progeny of a cursed man, a withering rose, set in a castle. The daughter of the minotaur is curious what the future holds and is looking toward the viewer to see if you will free her from her cruel prison. The fresco on the wall depicts a light focused on the intellect which bears a beautiful bouquet of flowers and is the clue that she only needs your attention to grow.
Sometimes I’m happy for it to be nothing more than a dream in motion; whereas other times I really want to know if it all stands for something symbolically. It causes me to suffer dissonance.
The “daughter” is a Luna moth. Look at a photo of one and see what I mean. They’re very diaphanous, almost translucent. Their color is a faintly green-tinged white. If Carrington had been a debutante, she might have worn a formal designed like this. Instead, she gave us an elaborate mythology, thank goodness. Imagine if all the debutants had been allowed to “follow their bliss” (as Joseph Campbell callled it)! ua-cam.com/video/eK9feqxtQJs/v-deo.html
Leonora was mesmerizing, how much her dream world influenced her inspirations and stuff. I love her unique style.
“You gunna tell us our future? Or am I gonna have to throw more bubbles on the ground?”

Elba's commentary is priceless, we just gained a whole new insight into Leonora's work.

This reminds me of the tarot, or something Guillermo del Toro would use in a film. I’m going to go find more of this work. I love it!
Love the painter, the title, the paint. Gracias por este video.
Remedies Varo is one of my favorite female surrealist artist.🎨.

Me encanta, debería ser más famosa.
In the videos you should mention when/how did you acquire the painting.

what we're seeing on the right is actually a hall leading up to a well lit room with a figure walking from it
Awesome commentary on another Carrington masterpiece.
