Archie was a bigot but was a good person. When the Jeffersons wanted to buy the house next to the Bunkers they tried to stop it and Archie was right with them. When the same people were going to put burning crosses on the Jefferson front yard Archie stopped it. The major difference between Archie and Alf was that Archie was good-hearted while Alf was just mean spirited.

@@charlestontouch I loved them both . Roy Clark was to strings what Annie Oakley was to guns though .
In the same way that Billy the kid isn’t a really good comparison for Annie Oakley , I feel the same about Clark and Campbell . Campbell was a better singer and I think he wrote music right ? That’s a different animal entirely . Know what I mean ?
And a songwriter that bumps into poet and artist both .
That little kid that played dueling banjos in deliverance , I wonder what the story is there ? If it was real ? I’m really not sure but it was great

"The Odd Couple" was a TV sitcom based on the Neil Simon play of the same name. It was about Oscar, a sloppy easy going sportswriter, who takes in his friend; Felix, a compulsive neat freak photographer after Felix is thrown out by his wife for being impossible to live with. It always seemed like Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street were somewhat based on the 2 characters.

The Odd Couple was a Broadway play before it became a sitcom. It is about two friends who are polar opposites who find themselves newly single after many years of being in a relationship. They decide, since rent and alimony are both expensive, to become roommates. The comedy came from one being a nitpicking neatnik (Felix Unger, played by Tony Randall) and the other being a cigar smoking slob( Oscar Madison, played by Jack Klugman).

He was using a flat pick for the most part. Towards the end, where it gets very 'plucky' he's not, but for the rest he is. That is what always amazes me about this particular clip. The sound of Spanish/flamenco music is usually done with 'fingerstyle' picking. I have played just enough guitar to know how difficult those runs are to do. Roy was a true virtuoso.

Roy Clark is a master of stringed instruments, oft times overlooked when ranking the best guitarists. Check out these Roy Clark videos:
    '*"Dueling Banjo's"....................................duet with Buck Trent
*" Orange Blossom Special"....................duet with Jimmy Henley
    *"12th Street Rag"
*"Folsom Prison Blues"...........................Roy's comedic take on a Johnny Cash song
*"Yesterday When I Was Young".............Roy singing
****Segwaying to other things ..............2 Cello's, a duo playing the song, "Thunderstruck". ( video)
...............Home Free, an a Capello group singing, " When A Man Loves a Woman"
...............Archie Bunker was the conservative/bigot patriarch on the groundbreaking 1970's Norman Lear brilliant sitcom tv show, All In The Family. There was no topic that they didn't shy away from; race, religion, politics, rape, gay/lesbian, drag, menopause, liberalism, equality, and you name it. Archie had a new neighbor move in next door; A black family. We see over time how his perceptions change. Then the Jefferson's move to the Upper East Side of N.Y.C. into a secure high rise apartment building and have their own spin off show called The Jefferson's. Norman Lear had several tv sitcom show on tv all at once in the 70's. He had a show called Maude. Maude had a cleaning lady named Florida. Florida then got her own show called Good Times. Maude went on to be on The Golden Girls. And so it goes.. Every show was a successful hit and aired for years. Sitcoms aren't like those anymore. That said, if you want to see a very funny episode that combines the Bunkers and the Jeffersons, you ( along with your wife) need to watch this episode titled' **" Lionel's Engagement Party" ( on youtube). Its hilarious and speaks to the times and race relations in the 70's.
Did you listen to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra yet? If not its also a must. You will recognize parts of it from TV commercials or other movies. There is so much music of all genres to explore. Enjoy the ride.

Felix is played by Tony Randall, and Oscar by Jack Klugman. Tony Randall's work starts around 1950 and he was born in 1920. Jack Klugman went on from this show to star in a drama/mystery about a medical examiner Quincy. Both have extensive bodies of work and were wonderful character actors. Carroll O'Connor, one of our finer actors, played Archie Bunker in All in the Family. It took a lot of intestinal fortitude for O'Connor to play the character of Bunker, Archie was a difficult character to take and my favorite memory of the show is when died in the wool racist Bunker wants a picture with Sammy Davis Jr. and Sammy kisses Archie on the cheek at the very last second before the picture is snapped. Pure TV gold.

The Odd Couple was a TV show based on Neil Simon's Broadway play of the same name. It was a very popular show with Jack Klugman on the right and Tony Randall on the left. A very funny show of total opposites, divorced friends living together. Roy Clark was was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. If it had strings, he could play it!

A question from one of his interviews.
One of the things that distinguishes your in-concert version of “Malaguena” is that you flat-pick it rather than finger-picking it.

I love the version of Malaguena Salerosa by the band Chingon.
The lead guitarist is the movie director Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico), and there's a great live video on UA-cam.

Hey, for your info the guitar was developed in the 13th century and the violin was developed in the 16th century.

Around 1850, a Spanish guitar player named Antonio de Torres Jurado created an instrument that was shaped similarly to today's acoustic guitars. He took the classical guitar that was in use in Spain and made changes to several parts of the guitar.

If I remember the classic Malaguena, it starts slow and builds to a fast climax. I think Roy is just showing off(he's entitled to)

The Odd Couple was a TV show with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. It was based on the movie with Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau. Its a Neil Simon effort about two divorced men who become roommates and are polar opposites.

No Archie bunker , Jack Kaufman and Tony Randall . The original movie was Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau .
Archie Bunker is on All in the Family.
George Jefferson was originally on all in the family and the Jefferson was a spinoff of All in the family .
This is from odd couple the tv series which was made after the movie was made .
All are excellent . Odd couple is Simon’s play
All in the family and the Jefferson’s are Norman Lear . These are both. Goats

It’s both. It’s a technique called hybrid picking. He has a pick in his thumb and index finger and then picks the other strings with his other 3 fingers. Then to do the tapping part he essentially quickly tucks the pick in his had to tap the strings.
You need to watch him play 12th Street Rag. He plays extremely fast using at least six or seven different techniques. The amazing part is that he plays it all on a Fender Jazz Master or Jaguar on a totally clean setting meaning there is no room for error. No distortion to hide mistakes. The mastery is truly unbelievable.

ok that's crazy cool. I remember Saturday nights at my grandmother's house getting cleaned up to go roller skating with my cousin. She always had HeeHaw on the television during that time frame. Roy Clark was the HeeHaw dude, so he was always my grandmother's entertainment to me. Years later I went on a vacation to Branson, Missouri. There was the Roy Clark Theater and he happened to be performing. I was pregnant at the time and those hills in Branson were a little rough. We were looking for a place to rest my aching body and I protested against watching Roy Clark in his theater because of my idea that he was lame grandma entertainment. Well crap. I had no idea he was so phenomenal. Wow.
