- Helldivers 2 released to overwhelmingly positive reception due to its great gameplay, and lack of microtransactions. They had the gaming community in their hand and the Sony ruined it. They're forcing all players on PC to create and link a Playstation account to their steam account in order to keep playing. This has led to plenty of negative feedback and reviews on the games store page. The game will not be accessible to those who do not link their accounts by June 4th.

Sony is just jealous that one of their games is more popular on PC than their own platform
The worst part is that psn is not available in more than half of countries such as mine. A lot of people can't legally create a psn account and even if we do with vpn, sony can ban all these accounts according to their terms of services. Helldivers 2 is such a great community, never ever I met any griefers or toxicity, there is no need for the bullshit they trying to sell us about safety and banning griefers. If arrowhead will not be able to do something about countries that can't have a psn account, that might be last month playing with you boys.
That just sounds like to me your country has a shit government, you should change that.

They are literally doing this because so many people unsubscribe to their stuff after the stellar blade cluster fuck And now they're trying to bolster their numbers.

I think you the nail in the head at the end of the video. The game has been out for long enough for everyone to reach the plateau of interest in which they were happy enough with the game as it was, they put a lot of hours into it, but as a live service they are now entering the into the "player retention" part of the game's life and they have to put in the effort to keep the players engaged.
Perfect timing to come up with this, just in time for ppl to say "oh well, it was great while it lasted, lets play something else and if i can get a refund, even better"

You just need an account, but in some countries PSN is not available making it suddenly unplayable for a lot of people.
I already have a PSN linked to my Steam so its not a big deal for me, but I understand the problem here and I hope Sony gets rid of it again. (but doubt they will)
The account linking was mandatory 2 months ago when I bought the game so this wasn't a problem for me and my friends.
That said, it's completly fucked up how some Sony managers forgot that PSN doesn't exist in many countries and basically bans a huge part of their player base.

My favorite part is this was always the deal. Each and everyone of you bought a copy of the game knowing full well the account linking was temporarily optional. Not defending this play but it was right there in plain text. Did people not bitch when they had to do this for halo and microsoft?

Yeah i quit, I don't necessarily hate the idea of linking accounts when it's useful or saves me time, but linking to sony as a PC gamer does exactly nothing good for me and only opens me up to another avenue of security problems that i just don't want to be bothered with. So Thank you for the fun times Helldivers 2 but goodbye.

Maybe I just don't get it...I like the game enough that making a free PSN account, while inconvenient and asinine, is not going to prevent me from playing it. Arrowhead has to play by Sony's rules, so unfortunately in order to support AH (which I would very much like to do) I must also support Sony. Necessary evil I guess.
It isn't wrong to support Arrowhead. What is wrong that account linking will remove players who cannot create a psn account because their country is not part of the network.
Even with VPN, Sony has the right to ban your account according to their TOS.

As an Xbox player, who just got a pc to play helldivers 2, this is bullshit. Why the hell do I need to link my steam account to a Playstation account? I just want to spread managed democracy
they are trying to pad their player numbers by counting the logged on PS accounts, already uninstalled HD2.

Me and a friend got the game only a week ago and they cant play anymore because PSN isnt available in their country. Great.

i linked my playstation account i made years ago at the beginning even tough i don't even have a playstation. like who cares. it's not so bad. at least we can play the game directly on steam and don't need another stupid launcher

Still a major fuck up. Should have in all fairness require the link for purchase from the launch. Now it is fraud, even if they put a small sentence somewhere. Sony literally just changed their policy for requirement for a PSN link for PC on May 3th 2024, 3 months after release of HD2.

because it doesnt allow you to make a psn account if you live in an unsupported country like me. I tried and could not make an account and before you say use vpn, people already tried and got banned

And then your account gets hacked they ban you and since it's linked to your steam account you now still can't play the game. And if you do not use a burner you risk throwing your personal info into the Ether. That aside from the data logging and their past bullshit.
The security risk is like putting 2 doors on opposite sides of 1 jail cell. Its so much easier to fuck with peoples accounts now, and its worse because if you get through one you get through both. So, the security risk is a big issue.
And besides that, some people cant even get psn and are literally just locked out of the game they paid for, because they live in asia, africa, western europe etc.

And Sony requires your personal info, in the UK even a photo of you, using same system the government uses. You know if you feel happy with this, why not just post all your stuff in say here in the comment section with the same breath, would be safe and secure right, no hackers, scammer will steal and use your info, steal your bank details and go on a spending spree, impersonate you.
