Pete is one of the best. This is a great video on the importance of basic casting technique. Most fish will be caught on casts no longer than Pete demonstrates here.

Forget the double haul. This looks much easier. Thank you.

A single haul on the back cast is darn near as effective as a double haul. You might pile up occasionally but it's easier to master than a double haul and it does work.

So true! Often times people rely on the DH to hide their poor casting techniques. Being able to cast long distance without DH’ing will substantially improve a cast with DH.

*Overall **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I feel the Shadowfire 360 offers excellent value for those who are new to tenkara and don't want to break the bank on their first rod purchase.*

Essentially , he is saying there is a certain length or sweet spot that allows the line to shoot the furthest. If you get more than that optimum length in the air, it will not let you cast further; it actually hurts the mechanics of the cast.

Great advice. One question: with that much line out and at your feet (in the water), won't it get stuck in the surface tension of the film and not run out? In other words, do you to use a stripping basket for this to work?

Thanks, you make it look easy. What do you call the kind of line with the weight forward that would be good for mainly dry or sub-surface flies for trout on small streams?

*Look at it like this. You buy a rod at Scheels or Cabela's because you're getting a quality product at a slightly discounted price because it's store brand rather than big name brand. And that usually is the case and works well. Some of the best fishing gear I've got, and I've got a lot, was got from those brands I just named. These Maxcatch rods are built on the EXACT same blanks that the Scheel's Outfitter MDD fly rods are built on.*
