With this logic in play, the person with the crush no longer has any obligation to stay and the other party would have no right to complain.
This can be perceived in many ways and honestly, I don't see anything wrong with wanting to abandon the friendship if you have feelings that aren't being reciprocated.
Yes it's kinda selfish and can upset the other person but at the end of the day you're the one alone and there's no point in emotional ruining yourself by watching someone you love get heartbroken a million times whilst knowing they'll never love you back.

I personally love this more than the original. It is much less "pop-style", and much more about common relationship between people we see every day. It’s a hard situation. Some parts of it I’m like,
“Yeah. He’s got a point. She can’t take advantage of his feelings when she needs a pick-me-up” but at the same time, she’d do the exact same thing if it were a girl who didn’t have a crush on her. That’s what females do with friends. They compliment each other relentlessly then run to them when they need someone to boost their confidence so sometimes the girl isn’t intentionally trying to string the guy along, that’s just what a girl expects from a friend

Yeah, but you don't slide yourself into the equation as a potential partner. It's like your bro listening to you vent about your ex and then hinting you're better off sleeping with him instead. Unless you're bi, you'd separate yourself from them too because you're not attracted to them. You're just friends.
This is actually very interesting to me from a sociological standpoint! It's a difference between what we in America (and probably other countries but this is the only one I feel qualified to speak about) perceive as "friendship" and what it's supposed to entail. On average, women have a wider support network because they are told it's okay to share your emotions and deeper stuff with their friends, while men, on average, rely on their partner for emotional support since it's been engrained in our society that it isn't okay for men to cry and show much emotion (Which is wrong, your emotions are valid and you should feel safe to express them regardless of gender). Therefore, when a woman shares her emotions with and is close to a guy, the conflict appears. To the woman this is a perfectly natural platonic thing you do with friends, but the man sees this as something only done with romantic partners. She isn't intentionally leading him on, but since he sees it as pretty blatant flirting and couple stuff, he feels like she's leading him on. So the guy lashes out in confusion and betrayal, and the lady feels that her friend only saw her as a romantic interest.
The friendzone is a myth. It's just a miscommunication that happens so frequently that it is normalized in our society. Want to know how to avoid this? Make sure your guy friends have many different people they can go to for emotional support, and let your lady friends know how much you value them as a friend. Let your nonbinary friends know their gender identity is valid too, just to make sure no one is being left out.
Being nice to someone does not mean they owe you anything. You do not owe anyone something if they are nice to you. It's okay if you're not okay. Drink water, eat food, stay safe. Stop doomscrolling; the world will still be here later. Trust me, you'll know if it isn't. You are valid and you are loved.

My take on how to resolve a situation like this:
You have to set up barriers, and respect those barriers. Let the other person make it clear that they do not reciprocate your feelings and would prefer you not to pursue them. Then make it clear that you're still (and likely will be for a while) having feelings for the person and would rather not discuss their other relationships as it would hurt you. Respect each other's decisions, and then figure out whether you can remain friends or if it would cause too much pain.
It's complicated, and it's difficult, and every case will be different, but communication is key even in relationships you don't want.
Cami told Caleb no, but her talking about other relationships with him made Caleb think he still had a chance. So both were annoyed and hurt, because they didn't see things the way the other did.
If you really don't want to talk to someone about a certain subject, just say that. Don't suffer through it in the name of "being a good friend" or "but maybe they'll finally love me." You don't have to help your friends at the cost of hurting yourself. I know that might seem cruel, but it's a good way to avoid an unhealthy relationship like the one in the video.
But that's just what I think.

Honestly, this is better than the original version. The response verse really makes the song get more nuanced. Clearly it sucks to be friendzoned, but it's not as simple as the Zoner being cruel or the Lovestruck being ignorant.
The Z most likely appreciated the LS's friendship so much that they didn't think about the possibility of them catching feelings, and instead just liked them for being a good friend.
And on the other side of the situation, the LS might have seen the Z's liking to them as a sign of love, at least to some extent, and as such kept building that idea in their mind over time.
There's no hero or villain in a situation like this, just a case of misunderstanding and mixed signals.
I think the one "friendzoning" is fine to do so, and that the lovestruck should instead of getting desperate or angry, instead start appreciating the friendship more.
I mean, there are plenty of benefits that come with having a friend of the sex you're interested in; benefits lovers can't provide.
Anyway, that's all I could think of saying at the moment. I'd love to have conversations with anyone who'd like to give their opinon or argue my view.
The problem is that you’re right, so arguing it would be really dumb.
My only problem is I'm not sure I agree with "don't get upset appreciate the friendship more" like that sounds nice on paper but when I run it through my head it almost sounds like your saying their not allowed to be upset/their emotions aren't valid just because they misinterpreted something which I don't think is really any healthier.
So many people in the comments don't seem to understand what's going on in this version of the song. Caleb's character isn't a Nice Guy™, he's kind of trying to be a genuinely good friend. He makes it clear that he's fine with being just friends, but wants her to know that's a two-way street. Just as he shouldn't continue to hit on her and make advances, she shouldn't hurt his feelings and give false hope by jokingly flirting with him and complaining to him about the men she does date. That's just as cruel and insensitive (AKA: not something you would do if you value that person as a friend) as complaining about being friendzoned.

Stringing someone along by flirting with them, even just playful meaningless flirting from her perspective, isn't something a friend does to a friend when you know that friend is in love with you. If he’s made his feelings known and she rejected him then yeah ok he needs to back off romantically, but at the same time her calling him “just the greatest guy” and complaining about other guys she was interested in is a really nasty move when she knows how he feels about her.
Like both are in the wrong and that’s the beauty of this version of the song. They’re kind of in a toxic relationship already and both need to learn to establish boundaries and walk away since there doesn’t seem to be even the basic level of respect friends should have being given on either side.

I mean yes and no, overall it seems this is the definition of an unhealthy relationship on both ends, if she knows his feelings and truly cared for him as a brother as she claims she wouldn’t string him along, but also he is unwilling to accept that she doesn’t feel that way which is understandable to an extent but judging by the implications of how long this has gone on it’s gone too far past simple heartbreak

@Flora Fauna There is always a fine line between best friends and people who are dating. My best friend and I might as well be dating we act like a couple according to everyone else, yet we're not interested in each other like that, especially because we're both ace and I'm ace aro.
But anyways, when Caleb says "You know my feelings" that's a red flag. You don't say that kind of thing to someone you know who has a crush on you unless you're teasing them. Plus in that situation, if one person doesn't like the other that way the way they used to act to each other is stopped because it gets awkward. You wouldn't compliment them the same way as a best friend/partner would because you don't want to give mixed signals.
