Very good step by step explanation. I have the same issue on my number plate lights
Glad it helped Struc_eng! Thanks for your kind feedback.
So that damaged wire feeds power to both sides of license plate light bulbs?
Yup, wire was open!
Great video awesome job, thnx!
Our pleasure, Jose!
Yes I work on a 1996 Dodge ram 1500 thank you so much your video was exactly what I needed. I found the problem I fixed it thanks to your. I have question for you my son has a 2002 Toyota solarawe don't know what happened but now when he turns his right turn signal on radio and instrument panel flashes at the same pattern as the turn signal and all the lights signal brake hazards and backup all flash also what the right turn signal when he turns it on I hope you understand what I'm saying any ideas what it might be
Hey Albert! I am glad to know that)
Oh okay, I see. That's probably, short or interrupted circuit at the switch side of the multi-control. Most likely worn multi-control switch feeds cluster and radio circuit when turn signal is on. Those turn signal switches go bad over time.
Disconnect the stereo and see if problem gone. Means stereo has internal short or open.
I would get 20$ replacement turn signal switch from the wrecker. It should solve the problem.
Let me know how everything is going. Take care!
Thank you sir very helpful video
Hey Jay! You are most welcome brotha! I am glad it helped you out.
Can you show how to fix the wire? You just wrap it with tape then use open fire to remove the moisture?
very helpful ! thank you
You're so welcome Cassidy!
Hi, I am abit confused. When you put the multimeter on the right hand side ground wire it beeped and then on the left side it did not beep and you said that's good. Shouldn't the both be the same?
Hello i was wondering if you could help me with my saab 9-5 aero i am getting power but lightbulb not work and i test the new light bulb they work could it be wiring problem
What was that torch looking thing that you used on the wire to fix it? I thought you were going to cut splice and maybe even solder and insulate that wire but I have no clue what that torch looking thing you use is or what it did to fix the problem.
That butane torch can be used for soldering wires together and melting crimp heat shrink connectors to seal the connection.
@@PistonShack oh, so you did have solder on those wires and did use heat shrink?
@@brucecook502 I'm really late but it was just a butt connector you heat shrink down around the new connection. It's all 1 piece
@@Seasniffer1969 it's all good, my problem turned out to be very simple. My car was missing a few fuses including the one responsible for the tag lights LOL
Nice ill use for motorcycle license plate light. All others work. No warning light either like all others. So somewhere thinks its getting giving power.
Hey Rafa! How is your repair, any luck?
You da man!
How is your repair, Alex?
What is the name of the tool used that lights up?
I think they called: automotive test light.
@@PistonShack savvy. Thank you..$3 at harbor freight. Perfect! Stupid license plate light.
I did that ony ford 15 and it made my gauges all stick to one side or the other
I have brake lights but no tail or license plate lights 2013 sentra, new bulbs and changed switch/control nob same problem..Any ideas..I have 3 fuse boxes but no tail fuse or burnt fuse
Hey Mike! I would check power at the fuse first then test for control side of the relay from the switch but first do visual inspection for any lose wires, corroded grounds and broken wires.
@@PistonShack thank you for responding. I think there is a short...F6 is blowing. When I test it I get power to 1 side of fuse...the wire that feeds the right tail light harness is covered with a roll of ductape..this isn't gonna be fun
@@PistonShack so you mean also test from the wire that clips into the headlight switch on the turn signal? I unclipped the tail light harness, turned the lights on and stuck my tester in all the clip ports with the hadlights on. Only lit in 1 port...if I hit the breaks or turn signal maybe it would light on the other ports? I figure the short might be before that harness becausethe licenseplatelights are dead too..wish I had a wiring diagram and I wish I knew what I was doing
What happens if you short the wires while checking for power
Hi Mr. E. If you short wires exterior lights fuse will blow up most likely.
Nice thanks 👍👍👍
My Pleasure Brotha!
wats that part called the one u burning
Hey brotha! Are you talking about heat shrink crimp connector?
Bro,i tried to change the bulb with the led and it got shut afterwards,i guess..and now there's now power on it ..any ideas on it to fix the shut system??
Hey brother! Check head lights/taillights fuse seems like it burned out for some reasons.
Which fuse is the license plate light ??
What vehicle do you have?
@@PistonShack 2005 GMC Sierra pickup 1500
BUT due to contractor material theft I need to read license plate lights at night, I need to read license plates while the lights are on in the dark any help?
Also available in blue
Thanks for watching Paul!
Just bought a 1991 Ford f150 and noticed the license plate lights were out, so I crawled underneath to see what was wrong, and found someone just clipped the wires! Guess it was easier than changing the bulbs???
Right on! Visual inspection is first place to start any "tryagnostics"
@@PistonShack just a minor issue to add to the other middling issues. I really can't complain too much since the truck was only $850, not rusted, nor dented, and runs. The previous owner just let maintenance slide instead of investing in the smallest things.
@@danbolton3180 That's great deal Dan! Right on. Every vehicle will have some minor issues here and there - even new ones!
Thanks. Interesting troubleshoot. My numberplate lights are staying on permanently even when the vehicle and headlights are turned off. Any ideas?
Hey Peter! It means you have constant power feed to the plate light when you switch is off. Unplug the switch to see if plate light will turn off. Do you have other light on when light switch is off.
Do i need both of those electrical tools or can I get away with just buying one?
Hi Nicolas! You just need a simple test light to get necessary tests done.
I got it fixed - it was a burnt bulb😄NOw I would like to know where I can find the plugs to put the rat fur back on. I always lose the dang things when I take them out.🤥
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks Mike) Cheers!
My wires are not easy to find, somehow i think this video may help me soon.
Hi Steven! How is your repair?
@@PistonShack I haven't done it yet,I was waiting on parts then got the wrong lights. Waited again, now I have my parts.I did end up finding my missing wires but no power like yours had,I will be checking the fuses like you did later today and go from there.Maybe Ill get lucky?,but with my luck probably not. I'll let you know how many of the steps you took,I have to follow.. Thank you again, will let you know!.
I installed led light on the back and the panel says check license plate lights. But they work fine
Hi Saul. Does it set message if you put regular bulbs? If lights work fine I won't worry about it.
PistonShack when the regular bulbs are on there is no message on the dashboard. But when I installed the leds it appeared that message. How do I tell the computer that I’m using leds? Thanks bro
Needle in a haystack.
Thanks Emily!
i can see it green
In what minute is it?
How in the fuck did u pull that connector apart i cant get mine apart
First, try to spray WD-40 or some penetrating oil on that connector. Tap it with a screwdriver in a way you play drums. Pray lock clip on the connector then it should come apart. Let me know how everything is going? Thanks for watching and subscribing. Cheers!
Got use small flat head screwdriver and go to work one side a little other side a little
Make sure you lift up on that tab while doing one side a little and other a little
If you have too installl your own license plate lights ,your license plate light comes with a red and black wire what color wires with tail lights do you plug them with to turn off and on with tail lights?
Hey Zack. Black wire connects to vehicle ground then find which wire feeds power to tail light socket is your power wire.
@@PistonShack thanks brother
Thank you so much for this video.
great video!
Thanks! What was wrong with a lights?
