If I could just be half as D&D savvy as Emily Axford....150+ points of damage in the first round, giving a rogue advantage and sneak attack with her familiar, then using DyNios to Dimension Door Orym to safety. Tal and Liam were stunned. As Brennan once said, "When Emily Axford has spells there's really not much you can do."
@@rakkasaniron1696 and that time when her monk/warlock juryrigged a fly spell, and that's not even mentioning all the fuckery she pulled off in the sequel campaign.
Hey. I just saw her gameplay for the first time (and this is exactly what i wanted since s1 of CR!!! CREATIVITY with spells!!!!), but i already deeply inlove with her, and already did a mental mark to google her and watch what-n-where she played before (dimension20 campaigns, if i'm not mistaken). I know, that it's pretty low chance, but maybe u - as me, for example - saving some of video or just quotes from most interesting [for u] episodes... So, my question: can u pls find a moment with that quote? I just wanna see Breannan' emotions when he said such strong words. Yeah, i know, it's sounds stupid - but here i am: i'm just an idiot how love DnD for such cool moves in battles!! (and roleplay too, but mostly - for creativity with spells! Yay, druid-sorc-mage power!!! \o/)
@@logicaloverdrive8197please explain to me how she juryrigged a fly spell, or at least where I can find a clip??? HOW DO YOU JURYRIG A FLY SPELL?!!!!????
@@skylark7921 It was in a New York setting, and I believe she had cast Jump and was combining it with Slow Fall to leap from skyscraper to skyscraper without taking damage, allowing her to essentially soar above the streets of New York without ever touching the ground. But I might be remembering wrong - she had a lot of powers by that point and was fairly high level, so she might have pulled off some other shenanigan. She has a lot of shenanigans under her belt.
Aimee and Emily perfectly represent the spectrum of creative players Matt described in one interview - one is very unexperienced, so, unburdened with game mechanics, she would come up with anything she could imagine, and other is so experienced that she could bend the mechanics to her imagination
Aimee's combat RP works because she doesnt demand extra mechanical advantage all that much. Probably because she is inexperienced and dont know the less streamlined rules like shove attacks and jump heights. She gets to creatively declare somersaults and whip attacks and 20 other maneuvers and Matt translates it to: You move 15 feet and make two attack rolls. It works pretty well where we get flavor but no abuse of rules
It was on one of the first 4sided Dives. Matt said, in so many words, that a player's creativity's growth goes full circle: Starts with unfettered, ignorance-induced, recklessness, and ends with unfettered, confidence-fueled, audacity.
@@davidgomes4408 You start with "can I do [insane idea]" and one day grow into "I'm *going* to do [insane idea] using my 6 abilities and a wacky spell" and it's always beautiful
Emily going from "Im a newbie to the Soul, its my first time out and about" to "Im gonna have advantage on everything and set myself up perfectly" is the most Emily move.
I think it was pretty obvious from the start that she Prism felt she was qualified to move up from apprenticeship. For the Cobalt Soul, they probably care more about her investigative, networking, research, etc. Skills than combat skills (for what she's being trained to do I know expositors are a thing) hence why, despite her great skills, she's still green.
I haven't watched much of D20 (only Escape from the Bloodkeep; just starting a Crown of Candy) so I've only heard tales of the legendary Axford (and Brennan's famous clip of Emily being "sent from hell to kill [him]"). Her praise was not an exaggeration! Was super impressed with her spell choices and mechanics.
@@LuckyDragon289 She also plays spellcasters in NADDPOD, which is DM'ed by Murph and absolutely destroys it! If you're looking for even more Emily chaos + goofs + emotional devastation, I'd highly recommend it.
I’ve connected with her character so much in this campaign. She used to be my least fav at the table -still a wonderful person but the way she tried to play Keylith and Beau didn’t seem to fit her well but Laudna, and her dramatic body acting is just supreme. She shines every scene. And her ability to portray her vulnerabilities resonates with me deeply. The whole cast has been perfect. Just. Perfect.
Sooo we gonna talk about how I think he's a Dog (border collie) turned into a person with magic God powers? He yells and pees when scared He has "good hearing from watching sheep" Also HE WATCHES SHEEP HES A SHEEP DOG!!
Underrated line of the episode (with perfect delivery): "Why mother?" "I named her after my mother." Because of course that logic makes sense to Prism.
I was saying the same thing! Like they were impressed by the insane amount of damage in the first round, but using the book to Dimension Door Orym out their faces were just 🤌 WELCOME TO EMILY AXFORD WITH SPELLS
I like putting oddball stuff like that into a world as a GM, to remind the players that it’s lived-in. They have to wonder about what insane circumstances put something like that out there in the first place… and they might never find out…. It’s even BETTER what that insanity is player-initiated!
Emily brought her beautiful brand of chaos, Aimee brought back the iconic Deni$e from narrative telephone, and Utkarsh brought the embodiment of a panic attack as a character
This might be a bit harsh, but to me Utkarsh's character seems like a convenient solution for the problem that he doesn't seem to know DnD or the world he's playing in, and that might become boring quickly. I really hope that I'm wrong on this and he's something cool planned for Bor'dor.
@@MarkiMcMark felt the other way around. he plays a character that was a commoner and became a high level sorcerer in an instant. that's bold from a new player because it's tough to pull off. it's also an interesting premise.
I think Taliesin put it best when he described the new party as "just like his highschool lunch table." Something about that is really resonating with me.
The visual I got of Laudna going part-tree and skittering away, followed by a farmer 'built like a coat hanger' screaming and throwing up all over himself is absolutely pristine, I was crying with laughter! 😂
i love the physical rp of marisha at like 1:39:09 onwards where she is just removing the things from the dead bodies 😂 while other people are just talking
Emily Axford. Playing a spellcaster. Not only that, but a *Scribe* Wizard. The Wizard that can fuck around with spells to make like... A Slashing damage Fireball, or Radiant damage "Acid" Arrow. This is gonna be good.
I just saw her gameplay at the first time - is she always playing so... creative, fun and-.. *whisper* better than he whole CR' cast?.. No offence here! I just so happy to see such creativity in CR' show - which was totally unexpected! I was PRAYING for such things (and Jester/Laura played sometimes that; like in Mox Machina vs M9 oneshot !!!SPOILER!!! with her pre-cast duplicate - she even tried to bluff when Pike attacked her duplicate!!!) - because this is what makes TTG what they are: infinite freedom for creativity! I just read that she played in Dimension20: in general speaking, is she always that "good" n "strong" with her moves, instead of boring %i_attack%/%i_heal% ?
@@PEECTPA Yeah, Axford is... creative, haha. She's very good at coming up with the novel and chaotic solutions. In Dimension 20 you can sort of see her grow into the experienced player she is today.

Oh wow I really missed Liam and his brand of emotional in-depth RP. “I’ve never felt so small” and that defeated little “no” when asked if he has anyone??? Perfection. And very much in character for Orym.
Liam "I can't feel my feet, let's roleplay" O'Brien has this effect of creating a safe space for others to RP. Orym is sincere and vulnerable, and it inspires his one-on-one scene partner to open up and dive deep
exactly and i feel he said "no" instead of "not anymore" so she wouldn't ask questions about will, which would make him even more sad than he already was in that moment
3:44:18 when Emily said "can I ask YOU a question?" i really wanted her to double down and follow it with "On a scale from 1-10 how would you rate your experience with the Apogee Solstice?"
Just realized that Matt split the party between the happier more cheerful partner and the darker more angsty partner and put them into teams. Lmao it made the vibes of both parties totally different.
I take my hat off to the person than changed Deni$e's name at the same time as when Aimee was revealing her real name and when she said the S was a dollar's simbol.
Me too. Especially in the conversation with Ashton over the fire. She keeps doing the quirky face thing, and then Ashton confronts her about it, and she replies, "if I say too many words right now, I'm gonna cry." Absolutely _heartbreaking._ God I'm so glad they're back.
@@lyannastark628Honeslty it’s the first character of hers that I instantly fell in love with. I think the archetype is a good mix of the positives of Keyleth and Beau.
"Do any of you, or all of you, if I am so lucky, have time to participate in a short, brief survey about your experience with the Apogee Solstice?" That brief moment of everyone being completely unable to formulate a response perfectly encapsulates my reaction as well. I was NOT expecting that. I doubt anyone was.
@AaseLange I thought at first she was going to end her sentence with, "do you have time to talk about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?" Aside from the Goth aspects, everything about her description was door-to-door evangelism.
@@omegagilgamesh To be fair, there is a certain demeanor and patter that ALL door-to-door people adopt, I think, even when we try not to xD (I've done some of the political/activism variety)

Prism's steadily increasing frustration with the whole party as she asked for fun facts was absolutely hysterical. I think "too tightly wound academic" is one of my favorite character archetypes.

Campaign 3 Episode 59, also known as Bor'Dor's awful, no good, very bad day. I'm also immediately shipping Ashton and Deni$e, and knowing now that Deni$e is cononically a Roguebarian makes Dariax's terror at the mere mention of her name even funnier.
@@tropiicul Dariax was a player character in Exandria Unlimited & EXU: Kymal, the short CR3 prequel series which was where Orym, Fearne, and Dorian first appeared. No lie Bor'Dor's innocence to the game made this SO much funnier than i was expecting it to be, its perfect and each scene with Bor'Dor is hilarious Favourite episode since this split so far
Him laying down to “make himself a smaller target,” unintentionally giving advantage to the monsters surrounding him, was probably the funniest thing about this whole episode it had me dying when I watched it haha. It’s why I love new players, they have no idea how the game is “normally” played so the way they play it is so unique and refreshing.
We credit Travis and Marisha for player development over the years but Aimee Carrero deserves a nod. She seemed super jittery in EXU, then jumped into Nordverse with some more juice and here she seems fully embracing her character and delivering the role play. Also, giving Emily Axford a Shadar-Kai Scribes Wizards? Seems like a dare from BLM.
wait what? Who in their right minds thought travis had to evolve? He was and still is by far the best D&D player, and was so from the first minute of CR.
@@XpVersusVista is this a joke? Travis himself has talked about it. There was a moment in c2 in which the cast acknowledged his evolution. You can be a fan of his but still acknowledge he has changed a lot as a player over the years.

Oh my gosh! this reminds me of my campaign, when my friend joined. My wood elf is 124 years old and only started becoming a divination wizard and my friend's wood elf is 20 year old druid just casting spells naturally because she is in tune with nature. My friend kept putting salt on my character's wound and say "You are a wood elf like me... why can't you cast nature magic? Why are you not in tune with nature like our kind?" I don't think my character and I have ever been salty in a game.
Look. I loved Aabria and Christian as guests, and I love the Wildemount team. But since the split, these three were the ones I was most excited for. And with the sheer chaos of these guests? I can't wait until the next session. Also, since they're on Issylra, we ight be finally getting some new Ashton lore!
..ok, maybe I’m forgetting something, but how would being on Issylra give us Ashton lore? Thank you everyone, both in front and behind the camera, for this amazing adventure. But I have to single out the people who make the subtitles, you are spectacular! Thank you so much for making this adventure accessible to people like me. I look forward to many more amazing stories in the future.
The irony of Aimee playing the character she's playing. I was immediately like "Is this Exandria's version of Sofia Lee from The Unsleeping City?" only for Emily herself to be part of this session. I'm loving how salty Prism is towards the natural magic users in the party.
Prism is the perfect character for Emily. An OP spellcaster who basically has two familiars (yes, I know the book isn't technically a familiar, but you know what I mean.)
This is the first CR campaign I’ve watched. It’s taken me a bit, but this episode really showed me how good Talesin’s RPing is. Out of the group he seems a bit under appreciated but it’s clicked for me
How amazing is this group??? The whiplash I got from Emily being an absolute beast with her spells to Utkarsh asking what’s a cantrip 😂 The shenanigans with the corpses, followed immediately by the emotional RP by the fireside, classic CR moments. All in all, a great episode and a promising start!
Emily immediately getting 2 crits on her first attack turn kinda sets the fate for every future enemy tha Matt has planned. But I'm SO excited to see her and the rest play and EVEN MORE that Tal, Marisha and Liam are back, I legit missed them dearly
Im guessing she has elven accuracy too based on her being i believe a half elf. 3 dice with advantage and steel wind strike is huge potential. Ive been planning the same combo of greater invisibility and sws on my bard when i get to the right level. Such a ridiculous combination
Man, watching Emily and Liam both put on clinics on proper D&D tactics during battles is gonna be magnificent! And also add in Tal and Marisha, who are also some of the better combat tacticians in the main cast, and you may see some absolute magic during encounters with this crew!
Yeah, Liam and Emily are tactical because they're just very experienced in the game. Tal is too, but he and Marisha do a *lot* of spur-of-the-moment planning and weird combos. So it's an interesting dynamic for sure.

Why would Emily Axford need Chaos Burst as a character ability when "Chaos Burst" accurately describes her every move?
@@Drekromancer Does she *need* it, mechanically, to wreck shop? Of course not. Would it nevertheless be amazing to watch Brennan somehow managing to keep up with her landing critical hits through a wormhole all over the battlemap like a goddamn Roadrunner-themed *Portal* mod? I mean... sounds like a funky good time to *me.*
I can just see Brennan saying “ Im fucking ruined” when she returns
1:39:05 I love Marisha pantomiming "picking up anything useful" of the dead bodies with Liam calmly explaining the situation in the background
I took 30 seconds for me to fall in love with Emily Axford. She completely shines.
Even before D20, she was getting Everything Ruined by Adam Conover. That is where someone of us fell madly in love with her.
Emily doing math live was the most stressful part of combat for her.
Bordor is truly the living incarnation of the pathetic wet dog you find in an alleyway, and I love him.
So… is he actually just a dog who has become a magical person? I’m not saying I think he’s a dog, but I’m not not saying that I think he’s a dog…
Thees a theory that he is a true pollymorphed border collie
The Applebee Solsctryce did some weeeeeeeeeeird shit, y'all. :')
I'm loving these new guests, Bor'dor is a *treasure* and I love how much Utkarsh commits to the bit
I had a friend shaming him for being too new to D&D for the show and I was like “bro he’s doing a bit. Utkarsh is a big D&D nerd”
@@MaxxStop gotta admit, I was sure he was new to D&D but if he is just committing to the bit then well played
@@MaxxStop There's literally an episode of Ghosts where he tries to play D&D with everyone. I was psyched to see him here playing for real.
I cannot express how much I love this early stage of a party
The standoffish vibe at first, discovering what exactly each other can do, the story behind who they are, agh I just LOVE IT
Omg I want to hug Ashton. They seems like they are always the strongest most held together. (And in character I can see why they have to be) But its those types that often break the hardest. Thanks for playing such an amazing Character.
3:41:08 the whole conversation between bor'dor and prism is just two people from different places on the autistic spectrum interacting and i love every minute of it.
it wasn’t just me then
As soon as I read this, could not agree more
As someone who is on the spectrum himself, and interacts with a lot of kids on the spectrum……..You hit the nail directly on the head.
SOOOO true. Many people are saying this.
(Although part of it is also the fact that Prism has never touched grass)
"Prism" is "on the spectrum"? Who would have thought...?
Ashton's commitment to getting their people back is pulling tears from my eyeballs.
I love how Travis had to go CEO mode on Sam while Marisha was doing her announcement. Gives me vibes of when Marisha and Matt almost burnt their house down and Travis called on stream saying "Pause the stream, figure your shit out."
"when Marisha and Matt almost burnt their house down and Travis called on stream saying "Pause the stream, figure your shit out."
When did that happen?
@@rickrack4325 they did a fireside chat back in 2020 announcing the release of "Explorers Guide to Wildemount." They had their fire going in the back, but their chimney was either clogged or closed, so smoke started filling up their house and their smoke alarm was going crazy. Eventually, Travis called them and pulled full CEO on them.
@@rickrack4325 "Explorer's Guide to Wildemount Q&A and Fireside Chat with Matthew Mercer" for the full VOD or ""This is Fine" - Fire Side Chat ft. Real Fire! (Critical Role)" for just the highlights.
so heartbreaking how much ashton emphasizes not leaving people behind
I love how across 3 campaigns Tal and Marisha's characters are besties or at least have a relationship
How are tal and marisha any different from other cast members? Just curious because I can't remember them really having a particular relationship
@@TeeheeX23Percy and Keyleth are best friends, Beau was easily the character who cared the most for Molly, and Ashton and Laudna have a unique connection because pf how broken they are
Wow, I started this journey in August 2022 from the Mines of Kraghammer, to the drafty Nestled Nook Inn, and finally the animate streets of Jrusar, and it has been an absolutely wonderful ride. Thank you everyone, both in front and behind the camera, for this amazing adventure.
But I have to single out the people who make the subtitles, you are spectacular! To transcribe multi-hour episodes and even put in your own little flare at times, it’s the best I’ve ever seen anywhere on UA-cam. Thank you so much for making this adventure accessible to people like me. I look forward to many more amazing stories in the future.
Agreed, whoever works on them is amazing and I applaud their hard work!! 👏🏼
Bravo
I concur. As someone who needs the crutch of subtitles, I am so thankful I don't have to put up with Google autotranslated nonsense.
The irony of Aimee playing the character she's playing. I was immediately like "Is this Exandria's version of Sofia Lee from The Unsleeping City?" only for Emily herself to be part of this session. I'm loving how salty Prism is towards the natural magic users in the party.
She reminds me more of Ostentatia Wallace from The Seven tbh
@@nangke They're also similar from the fact that both Sofia and Deni$e have (and this is a SPOILER for Unsleeping City):
Divine Ex-Fiance's.
Prism is the perfect character for Emily. An OP spellcaster who basically has two familiars (yes, I know the book isn't technically a familiar, but you know what I mean.)
W profile picture (I’m a lightweaver as well)
She had bukvar in naddpod as a book familiar
This is the first CR campaign I’ve watched. It’s taken me a bit, but this episode really showed me how good Talesin’s RPing is. Out of the group he seems a bit under appreciated but it’s clicked for me
If you ever have the time to check out his characters in c1 and c2. They are incredibly different and he portrays them all very well
I was literally reading all these comments like where is the talesin love! My first campaign I’ve watched as well!
marisha pantomiming the entire process of looting the dead body from the hole is the best part of the episode lmao
I don't know why Utkarsh going prone by himself infront of an enemy freaking killed me
How amazing is this group??? The whiplash I got from Emily being an absolute beast with her spells to Utkarsh asking what’s a cantrip 😂 The shenanigans with the corpses, followed immediately by the emotional RP by the fireside, classic CR moments. All in all, a great episode and a promising start!
"Instead of 'Mom' it has 'Me'."
I love her.
Even Denise can't help but be nice to Orym.
he's everyone's favorite little guy
Emily Axford, bringing some great life into the game and making scribe wizards look S tier.
It is tho
Emily immediately getting 2 crits on her first attack turn kinda sets the fate for every future enemy tha Matt has planned. But I'm SO excited to see her and the rest play and EVEN MORE that Tal, Marisha and Liam are back, I legit missed them dearly
Im guessing she has elven accuracy too based on her being i believe a half elf. 3 dice with advantage and steel wind strike is huge potential. Ive been planning the same combo of greater invisibility and sws on my bard when i get to the right level. Such a ridiculous combination
Utkarsh bringing in my favorite Sorcerer type, the type to cast time stop just to curl up into a ball for 12-30 seconds
Honestly, I would love to do this
The dream
Man, watching Emily and Liam both put on clinics on proper D&D tactics during battles is gonna be magnificent! And also add in Tal and Marisha, who are also some of the better combat tacticians in the main cast, and you may see some absolute magic during encounters with this crew!
Yeah, Liam and Emily are tactical because they're just very experienced in the game.
Tal is too, but he and Marisha do a *lot* of spur-of-the-moment planning and weird combos. So it's an interesting dynamic for sure.
Those two "That's true" and "That's true too" were some of the best character moments in the story and really sold me on Deni$e 3:55:10
Emily Axford, you goddamn genius. Manifest Mind with Steel Wind Strike and Dimension door---two legendary combat rounds pulled off with total aplomb.
Liam screaming “MOM” is hilarious!! 🤣💖🤣💖
Mother!
