Likely a reference to the fact that "the man" appears with different facial features each time he arrives to snatch his victims. Meaning he doesn't have one set face, the constant morphing of his features means he's faceless.

I thought it was going to end with the main character becoming a Nun or pastor. Surely if he hates silver crosses or crosses in general that would be the safest option. Living in a church or comvent surroudned by crosses. Unless it only works if he touches them?

Can't help but to think of "An Echo in the Bone" by Brian Martinez (bloodstreamcity) at times when they describe "The Faceless Man", especially when you see what lies beyond all the layers.
