I flashed my 6900 XT Red Devil Ultimate to an 6950 XT but you musst use Linux to flash because only there you can use the -f (force) command and the 6950 XT has a higher SOC Voltage, so the card will only run in safemode with 500mhz, but you could flash the AMD 6900 XT Liquid Cooled Bios on the Card, thats what I did and then you have an even higher Speed card with 2300+MHZ Vram clocks!
Hit me up if you need more Details...

Wow, this takes me back. 20 years ago, I bought a Radeon 9700, because it was the only graphics card I could afford (after working 2 paper routes all summer long). Then, by searching forums I found out that the only difference between the Radeon 9700 and the Radeon 9700 Pro was only the clock speed of the core and memory. I beefed up the cooling with an old CPU cooler, stuck a better heatsink on the VRMs, and overclocked the heck out of it. In no time, I had the equivalent of a Radeon 9700 Pro and better.

@@IsaardP It almost made me laugh, but ultimately is just unrealistic.
Part of the appeal of the 6600 is that it is not as large as higher tier cards, and takes less resources to build. If you make the slider bars longer, it won't fit in your case and will cost too much to build.

The Red Devil 6900 XT Ultimate uses the Navi21 XTXH chip rather than the Navi21 XTX (what most 6900 XTs use including the reference card, the Liquid Devil, & non-Ultimate Red Devil). At one point, the XTXH chip was branded as the 6950 XT according to techpowerup. The device-id is different between the XTX (73BF) & XTXH (73AF). Furthermore, the XTXH chip is binned & has higher clocks than the XTX (in line with the 6950 XT). In the short, the 6900 XT Navi21 XTHX cards are almost the same as the 6950 XT with main difference being the memory speeds.

12:26 unfortunately I once again have to say that Jay has no clue and is not prepared. AMD clearly stated that they will use faster memory on their 6x50 cards, because the slower memory of the 6x00 cards is not available anymore. So the memory is not binned, it's simply a newer revision of memory that can handle the higher clock speeds.

When I enabled SLi I got massive artifacting as if one GPU was failing. But individually they worked perfectly.
So what I tried is I flashed a bios from a different manufacturers BIOS on both GPUs with the same clock speeds all round. Magically SLi worked perfectly with a different manufacturers bios on them.
I contacted BFG a out the problem and told them about the problem. They didn't want to know about it. I think they shut their doors about a year after buying the cards.

    G'day Jay, Phil & Nick,
I have done some GPU BIOS Flashing but that was for putting back the Stock BIOS for GPUs like RX480/580 that had theirs changed for Mining & have seen that many people were doing this for those GPUs to turn say a Sapphire Nitro 480 to a 580, but I still prefer getting a stable OC that loads with Afterburner after Booting as I feel there would be less chance of Boot Failures than a BIOS Flash for an OC especially on older GPUs where components are worn.

BIOS swapping been around 10+ years now.
    first card i did it was a 7970 BIOS on a R9 280x
and last one i did was a liquid vega 64 BIOS to a Vega56
and same liquid vega64 on my strix vega64
That Liquid Vega64 BIOS was crazy and had one hell
of an overclock potential when dialed in correctly

Using Linux, amdvbflash (apparently windows only supports -fa & -fp)
-f Force flashing regardless of security checkings (e.g. AsicID & BIOS file info check OR boot-up card).
-fm Force flashing bypassing BIOS memory config check.
-fs Force flashing bypassing BIOS SSID check.
-fp Force flashing bypassing BIOS P/N check.
-fa Force flashing bypassing already-programmed check.
-fv Force flashing bypassing newer BIOS version check.

I've always wanted to see what crossfire does for Productivity, That is if it works at all

    • @mapesdhs597
      @mapesdhs597 2 роки тому

In general, productivity apps do not gain from SLI/CF at all, because the way they utilise the GPU does not involve inter-GPU communication. This is certainly true for any compute type load (such as rendering in AE or acceleration in Vegas) and for 3D apps like Maya it's also true. Games (way back) used SLI/CF (and people forget now that it did work very well) but pro apps typically don't. My CUDA research box had four GTX 580s (later 780 Tis), but no SLI connectors, not needed for all of them to be exploited by AE, Octane Bench, etc.
I did try game scaling with SLI connectors though, it worked up to 3-way for some games. but four cards rarely helped and was normally slower, though it depended on the game.
Note there are some pro tasks which do involve inter-GPU communication, but such tasks are not run on consumer hw as they tend to benefit from other pro features of Quadro/FireGL such as full speed PCIe return path, cache differences, ECC and more optimised drivers.

Depends if its the cli tool or the cards bios itself which validates the ssid. If the cli then a bit of assembly editing to jump the check would help 😀

Back in the good old days of polaris you could use a bios editor (redbios, PBE,...) to change the subsystem ID so i just used to do it this to get around that error
Idk if such tools exist for the new stuff

But all those things are nowadays not possible anymore, I also think OC doesn't make much sense anymore. Back in the day you could buy a celeron 300mhz and overclock it to 450mhz or a 2500k from 3.4GHz to 5GHz.... those times are gone!

I don't expect much difference in performance as the big difference between these two cards is going to be memory speed. 18GBps for the LD vs 16GBps for the RDU. I'm upgrading as a divorce present to myself.

There is an old trick though very rarely done as it requires a fair bit of skill but one could edit the timings for the vram and get a moderate performance gain even at stock clocks however overclocking the vram for additional gains becomes more limited.
