That’s so sweet of your father to bring the grocery list. I would have just asked him to take a picture and text it to me...that is if he had a cell phone.
Hi Becky, I did a ton of research on homemade hot cocoa mix, and thought you might try it. I’m diabetic, so I use a sugar substitute. Either way, it’s awesome. Hope you like it. Ingredients ⅔ Cups of Whole Milk Powder ⅔ Cups of Non Fat Milk Powder 1 Cup Sugar or Sugar Substitute, powdered Swerve ½ Cup Cocoa Powder (Ghirardelli’s Dutch Cocoa powder is best for hot chocolate) ¼ teaspoons table salt 1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder Instructions Mix together all the ingredients in this order: Cocoa powder Non fat milk powder Salt Sugar or substitute Whole milk powder Vanilla bean powder (optional, but yummy) Serve 2 heaping tablespoons per 6 ounces of hot water or milk. Mix will keep in an air tight container for up to 3 months at room temperature
Your mom and dad need their own channel! They are terrific!! Also next time you forget the list just have your dad snap a picture of it… makes life so much easier…lol
You should make your own elderberry syrup.. Very easy.. 2 cups dried elderberries 4 tbs organic ginger powder 4 tbs organic whole cloves 4 tbs organic ceylon cinnamon 2-4 ceylon cinnamon sticks 7/8 cups distilled water Put all that in the pan bring to a rolling boil turn down to a simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally. When completely cooled drain liquid and then add: Fresh squeezes lemon juice or bottled, around a tbs 2 cups local organic honey Mix well and put in mason jars, I use two amber quart jars, store in fridge.. Lasts about a month in my house at a maintenance dose of 2 tbs daily..
Hi Becky, I’m trying to catch up on your older videos and I just watched this one. I just heard that you sometimes burn things, don’t we all. If you ever find you have burnt food on the bottom of your pans, here’s an easy way to remove the baked on food. No scrubbing. Put water into the pan, add a handful of chopped up celery into the water and heat the pan on the stove. I use all the bits that we don’t want to eat. (Sorry to the chickens taking some of their snacks). We have chopped up a whole bunch of celery and placed handfuls into ziplock bags and frozen so we have some ready to go for cleaning. As the water and celery pieces heat up the burnt food starts to lift off and we just use a spatula to scrap across the pan. We just keep heating until the burnt food lifts…it doesn’t take long. Then it’s just an easy rinse off and then you can wash as normal. Try it, it really works and you may save a few of your valuable minutes for yourself. Anyway please keep making the videos. When I watch them I feel like I’m just chatting with a good friend. Thank you so much for being so lovely and natural and speaking so easily to us all. Becky, you are so appreciated. I hope you know that. Much love to you and Josh . Heaps of hugs from Australia ❤️❤️🐨❤️❤️🌻🌻ps hi to your Mum and Dad.👋
I just love watching & listening to you & your family. So much of what you do & make remind me of me. I'm 68 & have bad knees now but 25 yrs. ago I married the love of my life. We had a huge garden. Chickens & turkeys. I can no longer do all that. I live vicariously through you. Penzey's is the only place I buy spices. Their home base is here in Wisconsin. For Christmas I made enough candy to fill 2 lg. divided trays made for veg.'s. & doz. of cookies. In one yr. I canned 800 jars of various veg.'s & pickles. Dehydrated a few. Froze some too. Boy do I miss it all. I lost my husband a yr. ago. Just found your site about a week ago now I can't get enough. Thank you.
If you and your family enjoy chimichurri, you should give “criollita” or “salsa criolla” a try, I’m from Uruguay and we never have a barbecue without them! You just need to chop a couple of tomatoes, one green bell pepper, one red or white onion (personal preference) and one or two garlic cloves (again, personal preference) into small sqaures and then you just cover everything in olive oil. It goes AMAZINGLY well with chorizo and any red meat! Hope you enjoy it!
I love this so much, and my sentimental Christmas affected heart just swelled when your mom was so proud of your Striped Delight win!! Thank you for sharing so much of your life with us, already looking forward to the food prep video! ❤❤❤
Always love to see you and your mom do things together; I’m sure you understand and appreciate how lucky you are to be close with your mom, in proximity and with a great relationship! And your dad too. I get excited when you go shopping 🛒 and cook with her. Her organization skills are amazing! 🤩 ❤ thank you so very much for sharing your experience’s, journey, and videos with me! Su 11/30/23 😊❤
Becky I'm so glad to see you and your beautiful mother! I love the relationship you have with her, and envious because this is what I always wanted... but the GREAT part? I have this relationship with my father, and have the best relationship with my daughter. We can break generations of relations we didn't have or have. ❤❤❤ doesn't matter who the person is. If you are happy in your life. That's all that matters. Memories matter to me.
I also way overcooked my first prime rib and just got the courage to try again. I was skeptical of the recipes that said cook at 500 for 5 minutes per pound and then let it rest for 2 hours. But that's what we did and IT WORKED! 😀
Ooooh. How lucky you are. Proper smoked. I feel icky for days after swallowing fake smoked ingredients like store bought “smoked flavour” items such as smoked bacon, smoked bbq sauce, smoked paprika. Same reaction as I get from artificial sweeteners or aspirin. Proper smoked salmon or genuine Spanish hung smoked paprika is fine. The worst for me is anything that has bottled liquid smoked sauce in. 🤢
A light sprinkling of cayenne pepper on grilled cheese is yum. You can make your own paprika. I’m growing Hungarian paprika. It grows like a pepper plant then just dry the peppers and powder them in a spice grinder.
Omg!!! They are selling Hungarian paprika!!! I am Hungarian, it's a small country in the middle of Europe and it's so great that you can buy our products on the whole different area of the world.💕
Wow, didn't know how far reaching Penzy's was. Bill and Ruth Penzy started with The Spice House located on Old World Third street in Milwaukee, WI in 1957. Knew them back in the 60s (showing my age). Think Julia Child made them famous. Anyway, Bill sold the business to his daughter Patti and it is still there along with another store in Evanston, IL. The Spice House also sells online. Two signature spice blends I know Penzy's still makes are Fox Point seasoning (Fox Point is a northern suburb of Milw.). Makes a fabulous dip with sour cream. And Old World Third Street seasoning which is fabulous on roasts or potatoes. Just thought I would pass that on. Even though I live in Colorado, love to plug my hometown. Love your stream!
Love that you get to do all of this with your mom. I pray at least one of my girls wants to do this with me for holidays. I mean they are 6yo,3yo and 6mths but you get my drift lol
I would LOVE to know some recipes from this meal. Like the gluten-free puff pastry from your sister, crab cake from your mom, and the prime rib/ chimichurri sauce. So enjoy watching these videos of you and your mom.
My 11 pound prime rib is currently cooking away as I watch this! Doing a second Christmas with other family at my house and We love prime rib for Christmas too!
I have found that when I'm thawing somthing to cook that when I put it on a rack, instead of straight on to the counter that it thaws quicker. I'm pretty sure it's because it creates a cold spot on the counter and it keeps it colder for longer. But when it's on the rack and the air can get round it completely I think it worls better. Personally.
I'm ENVIOUS of how organized you and your mom are. Also, how much you like to cook...LOL! I can cook but it's not my favorite thing to do. I will say watching your videos is starting to get me wanting to try bulk cooking. So much easier and healthier than eating out all the time.
I love family traditions/recipe's which has ingredients you would normally never use but you can't mess with the recipe! It HAS to have this in it! I so love that! That's what family traditions are all about!!
Making your own hot cocoa mix is super easy. I made it this christmas as a gift for my family. Only 4 ingredients. Good quality cocoa, milkpowder, raw cane sugar and cornstarch.
Every time I watch your channel I say to myself “She reminds me of Ina Garten and I can see her having a place like the Barefoot Contessa.” Who knew she was your fav?!?! Love your channel.
I love the idea of a penny’s Christmas stocking! We love Penzy’s! Also, we followed Joy of Cooking’s instructions for the prime rib and it turned out perfectly!
smoked paprika sprinkled on top of a prawn cocktail, just elevates it to another level...vindaloo curry is way to hot for my palate,i think my eyes and bottom cried for a week haha,,all the best for 2022 and more vlogs xxx
What a beautiful relationship to be able to call for a forgotten list without fear of anger of the other person. Is it possible to get the crab cake and cheesy potatoes recipes?
Love videos featuring your mom. She's awesome! The Vindaloo is deelish. We use it in a pork and potato curry. Be careful on your first try, go for the lower end suggested as it is SPICY. I did 4 tablespoons the first time and hubby and I couldn't handle the heat...our kids devoured it, however.
Be careful putting cold/frozen pyrex into the oven especially if the oven is already pre-heated because they can and will shatter into a million pieces. I've had it happen to me before.
LOVE Penney’s Greek Seasoning, that and the Vietnamese Cinnamon are my two favorite items from there! The Penney’s website has a terrific Brunch Potatoes that uses the Greek Seasoning. SO good!
Love the prep shopping videos and the cooking for the parties. My boyfriends daughter is dairy free so o can definitely understand making multiple dishes so she can have the same as us!
I found your channel a week ago and have been in love with every video! We just bought a house and I plan on doing a big garden so your videos are giving me inspiration. Also pho is my absolute favorite food in the world and we have to be best friends now
I am so glad I found your channel. I really admire how organized you are, I get tired just watching the energy you put into your days. Love your videos, thank you for sharing tips and tricks on how to cook and organize things.
I learn many new things from watching and listening to you and your mom! My cooking style is rather simple; spices are basic and not too much (because I wouldn’t know really how to use them or for what types of foods to use them in). I grew up with my grandmother having a small coffee shop with breakfast and lunch meals - tremendously great food but just simple NC COUNTRY style foods. Thanks for sharing what you know for those of us that are stuck in the 70s style of cooking! Would really like to see Prime Rib seasoning, cooking and slicing it up to serve…my husband loves prime rib! Thank your mom as well for what she contributes to your time together cooking for those like me who should really be able to put out a decent meal! Gale Flowers 🌸
Prime ribs: cover with mayonnaise and pepper and brown uncovered on upper level of oven at 475 Fahrenheit for about 45 min or until browned to your liking than lower heat to 220 for about 5 hours uncovered and it is perfect.
I go on holidays to Turkey every year and buy a load of Sumac. It’s beautiful sprinkled over raw onions it takes the harshness out of it. That is what it it mostly used for in Turkey. Also really nice added to soups and stews. Love from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
2020 was the year of Smoked Paprika and Chipotle. My spice cabinet will never be without. Love the Smokey flavor but, I get myself with the heat in the chipotle. I add both to my taco seasoning. It makes it spoon much better. The Sumach is good on onions to go it Greek and middle eastern wraps.
I love Penzey's spices also. Thanks for taking us into the store - the closest one to me is over two hours away and I have never been. I order from them often!
I've been shopping at Penzey's since I lived near their original WI store. I too live near your stores (SE Pdx) but it's been far too long since I've visited. Enjoying your videos, especially as we have the same granite counters in our 80's houses 😆 Keep on cooking!
I used to do this with my mom every Christmas and Thanksgiving. Shes been gone for 24 years due to cancer. I still miss our doing this together it just isn't the same without her. I'm doing it now with my daughter. Although its not quite the same this year as I'm going through chemo for breast cancer. We had to cut way back and do a very small Christmas because I just wasn't up to cooking a huge meal. I miss going out shopping its been two years since I was at the grocery store because I dont have a working immune system going through chemo so I'm enjoying the day through your video. Wish I could join you both. I miss the fun.
Prime Rib! This IS my favorite meal with horseradish mixed in some Mayo . I cooked it twice . The first time it was cooked perfectly, deboned and I thought that was easy. The second time was weird! I couldn’t get the stupid thing cooked! Moo moo. When I did, over cooked. I had guests! We lived. You Becky and your mother just the best people to watch and learn. Mushroom 🍄 education, thanks! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁
I’m so enjoying your videos. I remember when I was younger everything was homemade and scratch cooking I love to see your version. Your mom is great love her organization hope we see the day of prep
The spice shop looks so cool! Nice to see Susan again 👋🏻 Oh I’d love that stocking idea!! Lucky you You are not the only forgetful ones 🙋🏼♀️ Mmmm crab cakes
I absolutely love seeing your mum in your videos she is such a natural on camera and seems like such a lovely women. Becky your videos have inspired me to begin a family channel and living in a flat I am looking forward to your spring gardening videos x

I love your mom saying "good morning ":) to your viewers. You can tell she is a great person who did an excellent job raising you.
She is the BEST!!
Agreed! Always good to see Mom🥰
Hungary is very famous for their paprika, commonly used for goulash dish

Hi Becky, I did a ton of research on homemade hot cocoa mix, and thought you might try it. I’m diabetic, so I use a sugar substitute. Either way, it’s awesome. Hope you like it.
Ingredients
⅔ Cups of Whole Milk Powder
⅔ Cups of Non Fat Milk Powder
1 Cup Sugar or Sugar Substitute, powdered
Swerve

Cocoa powder is best for hot chocolate)
¼ teaspoons table salt
1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
Instructions
Mix together all the ingredients in this order:
Cocoa powder

Salt
Sugar or substitute
Whole milk powder
Vanilla bean powder (optional, but yummy)

I love your embarrassed face when your mom is bragging about you. It's so endearing and honest.
I love that your mom gets all the different things for the people she loves. If there is a time to cater to those you love, it’s Christmas!
Spanish smoked paprika is the best! My son in-law is from Spain so his family sends it over. Yummm

I miss going out shopping its been two years since I was at the grocery store because I dont have a working immune system going through chemo so I'm enjoying the day through your video. Wish I could join you both. I miss the fun.
Many prayers🙏♥️

Mmmm crab cakes
Becky that pepper in the prime rib rub was Tellicherry pepper. If you haven’t tried it, you should!! I absolutely love it!! 💕💕
You can dehydrate vanilla beans (the once that have been in alcohol or fresh) and then blend then and add to sugar

Can’t believe you left the list at Penzeys😂! I’m so jealous you have that spice store. I’d go crazy shopping there.

Hi! I´m from Brasil and I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work, dear.
I LOVE Penzey's Spices. Have you tried the Boquet Garni? It's great in soups and with beef roast.
Put a dry rub on it with sea salt and mixed pepper corn's crushed you can score the fat cap and then put olive oil on it to allow it to stick to it
