That's going to be a sweet pump! I gotta watch your other videos again. I take delivery of my 170 on Monday. I'm pumped to get it goin
You are going to love the tank. I have zero regrets with this tank, I do wish I would have gone bigger and I thought long and hard on it. But the truth is bigger tanks cost A LOT more! As far as this pump, it has been amazing!
This is my next purchase. Bought a waveline which I like but it was too small when I went to a sump thanks great video
I did a TON of research on pumps, I knew I wanted to go DC. I was actually leaning towards the Vectra M1, I decided on the VarioS because it was slightly cheaper and it is Apex ready out of the box!
pelphrey my waveline is attached to my apex but I originally bought it to replace two pumps that came with my JBJ 45 gallon all in one. So I'm only getting about a 400 gallon return on it because of head height etc. so I'm going with the vario 4. Was going to go with another waveline but started reading bad reviews although I haven't had any problems with mine ( DC2500, 692gph) going to attach it to my skimmer as well
Classic fleetwood mac track ..... very nice Unboxing indeed still waiting for you to accept my challenge of the Aquarium Tuber Tag 🤗🤗
I'm working on it, I got the video recorded just need to finish the editing! I HOPE I can finish it today and publish it tomorrow.
Whats going on?! Looking good man!
Ready for you to publish your Sunday morning 4am video!! haha Taking baby steps, but I am one step closer on this tank!
lol like the music good video
But that pump though!!! It easily rivals the M1, especially when it comes to price. But it seems like a lot of people don't know about these pumps!
Yea I looked them up today they seem to be very good
i picked up this VarioS 6 pump and it starts off and then it stops, few minutes later, it starts and then stops. does your pump do that??
I took that pump offline a few months ago to run the Neptune COR20. Are you using the float switch? If not do you have the float switch turned off on the controller?
bingo! you're right. i had to turn off the FS. thank you
Awesome!!! Happy reefing!
How did you get the barb hose to fit? Reefer 250 has 5/8 while this has 1 1/4
Reduced the output of the varios with pvc fittings!
@@pelphrey Thank you for the video....Really helpful. I have the same system and pump and having a tough time converting the barb hose. Can you explain more what you did to reduce the varios with PVC fittings?
Is the input voltage able to take 220V?
Probably not, but you'd have to check with the manufacturer
Looks like a beast of a pump! Well compared to my little sicce anyways. 😬 So how close are we now, to seeing water in the tank? 😈
Well..... haha Soon! I created A LOT of content on this tank and my tank is about a month ahead of my videos.
Well I guess we will have to be patient then, which is good practice for this hobby anyway.
will this be ok for my 4.5 gallon reef for flow/
I would probably get 2 of them just to be on the safe side.
@@pelphrey thanks just ordered 3 to be extra safe
You seem to have more room in your 250 sump than I do in my 250 (version 3). I wonder if a Varios-2 would be adequate? I'd get a Varios-4 if it wasn't cramped in there causing vibrations against the glass.
I’m not familiar with the chamber dimensions of that sump! The V1 Sump return chamber was a pretty good size chamber!
pelphrey its a bit more than 8” x8”.
The VarioS-6 is 5.7" L x 3.75" W x 5.5" H that should fit into that chamber. Unless you have something else in there with it?
pelphrey just the float for the ATO.
How has your experience with this pump been?
+Sterling Lue Shue it's a great pump, wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.
Yeah your tank is just a little bigger than mine by ten gallons my tank size is 24x21 and so is the stand, then I added 1x3 in across the top and sides for support so I lose 2 more inches
This is a 65 gallon total water volume system, with the rock work in the tank I have 60 gallons. I almost went with another cube, the reason I didn't it because of the lack of space in the stand.
pelphrey that was a good point that I didn't think of when I bought it. Someone on REEF2REEF recommmended a icecap sump which I didn't like cause it had no refugium. But I like the way I set it up. What is the width ( side to side) of your overflow , the part that is inside the tank? I want to get rid of my Tunze overflow it's to noisy
How quite is the pump?
Dead silent!
pelphrey thanks for the fast reply, think I might have to treat myself to one :-)
No problem! I almost went with the Ecotech Vectra M1, but the VarioS was a lot cheaper and came with all of the fittings. The M1 needed another $10 in fittings on top of the cost of the pump. I'd easily go with the VarioS again. Not to mention Coral Vue is very easy to deal with if ever there is a problem.
pelphrey yeah, I was looking at the vectra but in the uk it's not cheap. I just need to work out what the lowest lph would be on the 2 version for my reefer 170. On feed mode does the pump shut all the way down or just slow down?
I am not sure, I don't shut it down to feed. If I feed pellets I use a feeding ring to keep the pellets in one place until they are eaten. I am using the VarioS 6 on setting 3 of 5, fixing to redo my plumbing for a manifold so I may need to bump the speed up a little.
Why are you going so big? You have a 66 gallon tank with sump mine is 60 gallons with sump gee your going to make me spend more money 😀
A few reasons, first off this pump's output fitting it 1 1/4" to save on plumbing I reduced it down to 1" out of the pump, so there is some head loss. Second I will be running a manifold at some point, the extra flow will be nice to have! I am currently running it on setting 3 out of 5 and could probably turn it up to 4 or 5 without any issues.
pelphrey good thought on a manifold I don't have enough room for one myself lucky you
+Bob Escher I had to get creative for it to work with my setup! Haha
pelphrey what size tank and stand I forgot. Take a picture of the manifold? I have been thinking of doing one to run my carbon and biopellets reactors myself. I have a BRS minireactor running carbon now. It has a cobalt mj1200 running it and would like a biopellet as well but do t think another pump is a good idea
I ran the BRS Mini reactor on my cube with the mj1200, it worked great! I liked being able to pull the pump out with the reactor to clean and flush it when new media was added!
