No laptop. I do borrow my husband's computer (big one) to print but use my cell for everything. I'm almost to no bras too but because of health. (Trying to find alternative, being big isn't easy). Do you have plants in your house? I'm trying to do those.
A microwave, tv, hair straighter, curling iron, any beauty crud, social media lol., laptops, tablets, juicer much more... many items you said! I drink out of jars lol. Ty again for the post!!! Edit- added "r" to juice. Typo
I also do not own a bra or use deodorant. I went through breast cancer treatment and chose to go flat. No need for either of those items. I hate uncomfortable shoes and no longer wear nail polish as I’m always gardening or make soap. 😊
No hair dryer either and mine is down to my bum haha, I garden so no nail polish for me either. I dont use shaving cream or hair products I'll just use bar soap or jojoba oil, I use soap nuts for laundry soap, shampoo and dish soap. I recently stopped buying dog toys because I can use old t-shirts or sheets and braid them into rope toys for my Venus ✌🌱💚
I didn’t even know there is such a thing as rice cooker. The way we cook rice in Poland is, adding 1 part of rice to 2 parts of water to any pot with a lid. Turn off the stove last 3-4 minutes of cooking. All the water gets absorbed and rice is very fluffy. You can cook almost any grain like that 😊 thank you for the inspiration to live more minimally
Same! My plant collection is NOT minimalist, but they are what I decorate with. I love being surrounded by life and seeing new growth. Otherwise my place is basically empty.
I only have candles in our "apocalypse room"....lol....after living through a few blizzards that snowed us in and power outages, I like having them on hand just in case. But I don't use them in decorating. They are purely a "be prepared" item. SOOO with you on the TV...same in our home. Just found your channel....enjoyed this video!
I've thought about getting rid of my hair dryer. The only reason I keep it around is for winter. I don't use it ALL the time, but there's been a few times it's saved my head from freezing. I do have one 'normal' bra but that's for weddings, parties, etc. I don't have heels, nail polish, or underwear haha.
I'm with you on the hairdryer! Cold, wet hair when you want to sleep in winter is sooooo uncomfortable, but I literally put a timer on and dry for 3 minutes. I can't stand more than that.
I got rid of mine. Then one day in the winter I had to wash my hair and take off for the day, usually I wash my hair the night before so it's dry but I didn't feel well that night, sooooo I turned on the furnace and put my head over the register. 😆 It worked Lol
I get you totally. No heals No candles Deodorant I use "no pong" I do not drink alcohol either No tablet here. Thanks for the video. Stuff we do not need or waste money on. Go u
Great video!! I feel like the love of kitchen appliances is a very American phenomenon. I'm in Scotland and I couldn't tell you anyone that has a rice cooker or a coffee maker!
Rebecca, I loved how you made this list personal and honest - aspirational me versus realistic me. This is the most interesting aspect of minimalism for me, that it makes me get to know myself better, get to know the realistic me versus the aspirational dream of me, which is often the me that was somehow advertised
Rice: 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice. Boil water first then add rice, lower temp and it’s fine in 15 min!!!! Japanese rice takes less water. Recipe in bag!
I completely agree with the TV. We bought a 65in and it barely got used. My recommendation? For those who want to actually have a TV but want to save space, get a projector. We literally move that thing around the house and the best part is taking it for camping lol.
I'm working towards being a LOT more minimalist, as I'm hoping to move into a van/ambulance in the near future. I've started the process of getting rid of things that aren't multipurpose or that I haven't used in over 6 months. Your videos are very inspiring. Oh, and I stopped using deodorant a couple of years ago and almost never smell and haven't had any complaints or 'looks' indicating that I should.
I used to have a hand mixer like the one you said. I didn't know I had one till I started decluttering my kitchen. It was in the back of a lower cabinet ! Out it went. I don't drink coffee, so no need for any coffee stuff. It's fine if you don't wear deodorant. Good video ideas.
I don't own any of the items you mentioned except candles (for emergency use only). I don't own a clothes dryer or a dishwasher. Enjoyed your video--thanks!
Totally on board with you concerning the heels and the bras. We do have a coffee maker, but I don’t need a big machine for hot specialty drinks. I allow myself 4 trips to Starbucks per year, and we’re done! No specialty appliances for other foods, either. Love your videos! I feel INVITED to use less, not pressured! ❤️
It s so funny - first thought was : why does she nows about my list? 🤣🤣 we also serve our guests all kind of drinks in old jar glasses ..... I have to explain myself each time we do this 🙄 its really not easy if your not mainstream in so many ways but it is all worth it😀 Keep going rebecca , Greetings from Germany
I'm so glad to hear that you don't wear deodorant! I haven't worn any in 20 years and don't miss it at all. I also don't use shampoo. No deodorant and no shampoo makes for a small toiletries bag when travelling!
I don't own wine glasses either 🤣. I have been on a mission to declutter anything, I truly don't use. Now to get my husband on that page would be amazing! Baby steps 😉
Hey Rebecca, for every cup of rice use 2 cups of water and leave it till there is no water left, but make sure you stir so that it doesn't burn! Great video!
20 years with a friend on the same mission with deodorant along with experimental natural DIY recipes!!! Nothing! Also, it's harder to minimize when what you have items you may not want but need to keep out of necessity. Thank you for the post! Much 💕
Hate underwire bras and high heels. I used to always wear nail polish but haven't for the past year. I now prefer natural but nicely manicured nails. Must have a wine glass though as I could not drink my occasional wine out of a thick rimmed jar! I definitely don't need a food processor or rice cooker but love my Nespresso coffee machine haha Enjoyed this video! 😍
About candles... I recently did a huge declutter in my flat and I found 7 candles all around the house I didn’t even remember. And i made it a challenge to burn them before ever buying new ones. Right now I have 2 left and every time I used one up I’m very satisfied 😅
Wow... I have no hairdryer, no candles, no rice cooker, no mixer, no food processor, never get nails done, ever, ... have one pair of high heels that I never wear. (They’re CHANEL.. can’t give them up) .... great video!
I'm South African too and I definitely don't drink out of the bottle. You can't be Capetonian. It's a sin not to savour your wine here. Doesn't have to be a fancy glass, but not the actual bottle. Yuck. Isn't it great how minmalism can be different for everyone yet serve us all...?
Loved this! I I used to not have a microwave growing up (it died and ended up in the garage) people thought we were nuts. I now have one as it came with the house we live it but I wouldn’t miss it if it died.
Besides my tea cups/mugs, I own six pretty wine glasses and drink everything out of them except wine. 😕 I don’t drink wine anymore. Growing up in the U.S. South, we just boiled rice in a pot and strained it; the rice cooker is overkill to me. Though, I am a waffle fiend, so I do have a waffle iron. 😃 I’m still stuck on how you can get away with no deodorant. 🤯🤔 My motto for heels: “heels kill,” so that’s a no for me when it comes to heels.😂 Enjoyed your video!💚
For the rice cooking, you can also just take a cup (any king of cup) and put 1 cup of rice for 2 cup of water, when the water is all absorb by the rice, it's cook. That how I did it all my life and it's really simple.
For cooking rice, you should take a measure of rice and two of water if it is white rice and three if it is integral. Let it boil and then put the fire down to medium power. If your water is hard, maybe you would need a little more of it.
If you eat it every day, a good rice cooker is practical. It's not even the "cooking" of rice that makes a rice cooker great, it's the automatic keep warm function, so you don't have to even think about rice. You cook the rest of meal and it's just there, perfect, and ready when the rest of your meal is. For people that don't eat rice every day, going without makes more sense.
I think any household would only need one type of chopping appliance: either a blender or a food processor. We only have a food processor and we use it for food processing and blending. As long as the device is high powered enough and the blades are sharp enough, food processors and blenders fill nearly the same niche in a home kitchen.
I use my food processor to grate large amounts of cheese and mix up torilla dough( without having to do alot of kneading) And use my blender for drinks and salsa and sauces, shred mass amounts of carrots lol So i use both for lots of things since i make so many things homemade But not everybody does
I have recently purchased a food processor, after much consideration and research into the best one for me. I am getting arthritis, which is getting worse by the year and find that even grating one carrott leaves me with a lot of pain in my hands and shoulders. It has made my life soooo much better! Bring on the coleslaw, falafel, beanburgers etc ( I can't mash stuff either)! I am on the minimalism journey and previously did all that sort of stuff with my one very good and expensive kitchen knife. But i have got rid one thing a day for the past 3 years, and nit missed anything!!
That's awesome! The best things we can buy are the things that make our lives better and add value to our lives. Sounds like the food processor definitely does that for you!
Gypsy is making me want a good coffee right now! Also, I donated all my high heels, super short skirts/shorts and hair dryer, trashed the underwires, don’t wear deodorant since I went vegan; but don’t take my rice cooker (that crispy crust is not as abundant or reliable when cooked in a pot) or 💓Vitamix🥰.
I feel so good because I don't own some of those things, too! I don't own nail polish, candles and I don't watch TV. And I don't even get the function of a rice cooker. They don't exist here in Argentina. We cook rice in a pot just like your grandma explained it to you and it's been okay for the past few centuries 😂 And honestly, I hate hair dryers. Last time I used one I was 6 years old. I always got sick afterwards because I have asthma and I felt my hair looked terrible once dry! I looooove my hair when it dries out naturally 😍
Same here.I just stared to use the last bit I have leftover maybe every second- third day and it's actually fine! I can't smell anything and my coworkers or clients don't seem to either 😆
Is there a way to do it that makes it more likely to be successful? As of now, I can tell if I forget to put it on in the morning. I've heard of detoxing armpits. I wonder if using some of these extra steps are helpful in transitioning.
I agree with most of that list. I also don't need a microwave, a toaster, an instapot or any specialty cookware. I skip makeup too. Oh, and who needs shaving cream when conditioner does just as well.
That's my first video I'm watching of you and at 4:55 you say, "the first candle I want to buy and burn..." and I understood "... I want to buy in Berne" and I was like: Cool, she's coming to Switzerland! :-D Well, anyway.. you're a great inspiration for me, as I'm on my way beeing a minimalist, preparing to go off with our Van through Europe, also beeing a rock climber :D Great stuff!
Out of your list, I also don't have a food processer, high heels, and candles. Other things that I own zero of: physical books (my husband has his but I personally got rid of mine. I'll just go to the library.), perfume, magazines, Instapot, Air Fryer. Halloween decor.
Love your videos, Rebecca! ♥ I personally think heels, bras, and nail polish should be outlawed! ;) Heels because they ruin your feet, bras because they are not comfortable and also not good for your health, especially the under-wire ones (I wear tank tops as my bra), and nail polish because it is so toxic. I also do not wear deodorant and haven't for about 27 years. :D Very freeing and I do not have an odour problem fortunately. :) I do love candles, but only use tea lights of soy, beeswax, or coconut oil. Natural fragrance. ♥ I would LOVE to get rid of my TV, but I watch a lot of movies and I need a bigger screen than my laptop. sigh
I have a food processor for hummus and falafels. I just never tried using my blender. Cause I had the food processor. I don't have heels or a hair dryer. But bras I wish I could go a day without one. But the way I'm built wireless bras really aren't an option if I'm standing more than 20 minutes
Although certainly not necessary if you decide candles are something you want to pick up again Goodlight has unscented candles and tea lights at an affordable price. Plant based paraben free with aluminum cups 😊
I don't use deodorant to. It it is proven that deodorant kills the good bacteria that helps you're body not to smell. I noticed in the past whenI started tu use deodorant I started to smell. In the summer I just use a shower gel with lemon and it's works great!
After this video I have to say that I sympathize a lot with you! I feel like we would be friends if I’d know you in real life 😊 I wish I had more people like you around me, who don’t need deodorants and bras and don’t care about painted nails and wine glasses. 🙌
Things on this list that I do own! Bras (I have big boobs) Tv (we don’t have a laptop otherwise we would use that) Blow dryer ( I live in Canada so if you went outside with wet hair you could get sick A coffee maker A mixer
Another trick, from a rice lover 1 measure of rice, two measures of water (for wild rice is a little different you need half or one more measure of water) works every time. Anyway, I hate having a TV (we have a massive TV) my husband adores it, he is in the film industry so... But if it depended on me, we wouldn't have a tv at all
We are kindred souls!! I don’t own heels, a food processor, wear deodorant, own structured bras, wine glasses, a tablet, a TV, nail polish or a hairdryer ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video! I do the opposite of you - I don't use a stovetop at all but instead cook everything in the rice cooker. Could you do a video on your thoughts on sunscreen? I am very fair and live in Florida so I need to use it but I struggle with getting enough vitamin D and also finding the best sunscreen. Also what about a grocery haul or what you eat in a day? I would enjoy that as well. Your channel is one of my favorites! So informative and you are very inspirational. THANK YOU!
Celia White If you are wanting advice on sunscreen go to Dr Dray's channel (dermatologist). She is the expert on sunscreen and advises us to wear it every single day!
I enjoyed it. Thank you. Looking for a food processor now not for cooking but because I'm also going low impact and it's saving me space and money so with this device I can make my own laundry soap or any soap.
Microwave. I get weird looks when I tell people that one. Also with you on several- no TV, no food processor, no full coffee maker, no “real” bras, no heels
I no longer own any candles, aside from the ones in my emergency kit. I wish I could get rid of our wine glasses, but my husband insist wine taste different in a wine glass🙄
I buy one deodorant at a time, a blow dryer for my dog, 1 bra (special occasions) a hand held mixer for smoothies 1 tv...everything else you mentioned I am also glad I do not own plus alot more items that were not mentioned I also do not own... and I am ok with that :)
Great video! I never blow dry my hair either! I just let it air dry and I have a straightener in my bathroom but I honestly can’t even remember the last time I straightened my hair. Plus if there ever is a day that I want to straighten my hair I could ask my mom if I could borrow her straightener! I’m definitely going to be decluttering my straightener because I don’t need it anymore :)
Rebecca Sisson Yes, there are definitely reasons to need a hair dryer! I think my sister or mom would let me borrow theirs though so I should be good getting rid of hair heat products personally :)
No wine glasses, no necklaces, no scarves, no high heels, no tablet, no bath oils, no food processor. I'm different with candles, I just buy candles with smell (vanilla ice cream at the moment) but very rarely (maybe twice a year)
Thanks for watching! What are some common items that you don't own? I'd love to hear!
Tricky to think of things I don't own 🤣
Wine glasses, knife block, bread maker, bicycle, CD player, bikini,
@@rebeccafay-read6713 no bikini? what do you swim in shorts and t-shirt?
No laptop. I do borrow my husband's computer (big one) to print but use my cell for everything.
I'm almost to no bras too but because of health. (Trying to find alternative, being big isn't easy).
Do you have plants in your house? I'm trying to do those.

I also do not own a bra or use deodorant. I went through breast cancer treatment and chose to go flat. No need for either of those items. I hate uncomfortable shoes and no longer wear nail polish as I’m always gardening or make soap. 😊
A simple woman is a beautiful woman in my eyes.
Oh, man....I WISH I didn't have to wear bras! LOL!! However, I did cut back on the number I had from 12 to 4. GETTING THERE!!!
That's awesome!
I would also love to not have to wear a bra! But I don’t think that ever will be an option.
Same here! I'd totally get a reduction if I could afford it.
My Husband and I are minimalist and it's awesome ! So easy to keep our condo clean! 10min clean up
Whoa whoa whoa, thanks UA-cam algorithm, for this on point suggestion. All I want to do now is binge your channel (in a healthy way, of course 😉).
Also random Q, love your scarf, who’s the artist? Thanks!
Thank you so much Jackie! I'm glad you found my channel too. Happy binging :)
Its by a local artist here in Joshua Tree, CA.
Thanks for being authentic and showing that women are beautiful without those extras. 🤗

To get perfect rice, you have to use the double amount of water - 1 glas of rice and 2 glasses of water :)
I've thought about getting rid of my hair dryer. The only reason I keep it around is for winter. I don't use it ALL the time, but there's been a few times it's saved my head from freezing. I'm proud of you for the no more deodorant thing and yes a clean simple diet definitely helps and in fact can eliminate smell

And honestly, I hate hair dryers. Last time I used one I was 6 years old. I always got sick afterwards because I have asthma and I felt my hair looked terrible once dry! I looooove my hair when it dries out naturally 😍
I'm thinking about not using deodorant. It's the perfect time to try while I'm always home. Thanks for inspiring me
Go for it! It's really liberating.
Same here.I just stared to use the last bit I have leftover maybe every second- third day and it's actually fine! I can't smell anything and my coworkers or clients don't seem to either 😆
Same here. I tried for a month at the beginning of lockdown but unfortunately it didn't work for me.
I only use it for working out outside of my home
Is there a way to do it that makes it more likely to be successful? As of now, I can tell if I forget to put it on in the morning. I've heard of detoxing armpits. I wonder if using some of these extra steps are helpful in transitioning.
Rice is super easy. It's a ratio of 2:1. 2 cups of water for every cup if rice. Cook on super low. Perfect every time.
Well, anyway.. you're a great inspiration for me, as I'm on my way beeing a minimalist, preparing to go off with our Van through Europe, also beeing a rock climber :D Great stuff!
awwwwww I miss Thrive. Can't wait to go back to BH and getting some
Out of your list, I also don't have a food processer, high heels, and candles. Other things that I own zero of: physical books (my husband has his but I personally got rid of mine. I'll just go to the library.), perfume, magazines, Instapot, Air Fryer. Halloween decor.
Love your videos, Rebecca! ♥
I personally think heels, bras, and nail polish should be outlawed! ;) Heels because they ruin your feet, bras because they are not comfortable and also not good for your health, especially the under-wire ones (I wear tank tops as my bra), and nail polish because it is so toxic.
I also do not wear deodorant and haven't for about 27 years. :D Very freeing and I do not have an odour problem fortunately. :)
I do love candles, but only use tea lights of soy, beeswax, or coconut oil. Natural fragrance. ♥
I would LOVE to get rid of my TV, but I watch a lot of movies and I need a bigger screen than my laptop.
Great tip! Thank you
I don't use deodorant to. It it is proven that deodorant kills the good bacteria that helps you're body not to smell. I noticed in the past whenI started tu use deodorant I started to smell. In the summer I just use a shower gel with lemon and it's works great!
After this video I have to say that I sympathize a lot with you! I feel like we would be friends if I’d know you in real life 😊
I wish I had more people like you around me, who don’t need deodorants and bras and don’t care about painted nails and wine glasses. 🙌
Is anyone here of Rebecca’s subscribers from the Netherlands?
Aw thank you! I feel like we would be friends IRL too, sounds like we have the same viewpoints!
great and inspiring video
We have never had a rice cooker. It’s so easy to cook in a regular pot just follow the directions on the bag
I just subscribed ❤️
Great video, have been a minimalist for 4 years
Thanks for subbing!
Things on this list that I do own!
Bras (I have big boobs)
Tv (we don’t have a laptop otherwise we would use that)
Blow dryer ( I live in Canada so if you went outside with wet hair you could get sick
A coffee maker
A mixer
Your husband's rice cooking trip, I was taught that in the Philippines. Have cooked rice basically that way ever since.
I also dont own high heels, only 2 pairs of nicer shoes for weddings etc, no bras (with wire as well) but bralettes🥰
Another trick, from a rice lover 1 measure of rice, two measures of water (for wild rice is a little different you need half or one more measure of water) works every time. Anyway, I hate having a TV (we have a massive TV) my husband adores it, he is in the film industry so... But if it depended on me, we wouldn't have a tv at all
I don't own candles either but I do have scented wax that I put in a small burner.
I get the candle thing and a lot of the others.. Great video and appreciate your disclaimers in the beginning.
Thanks for watching!
Where is your cute bandana from? Been looking for a good neck scarf :)
That's awesome!
I quit candles too🔥
I buy one deodorant at a time, a blow dryer for my dog, 1 bra (special occasions) a hand held mixer for smoothies 1 tv...everything else you mentioned I am also glad I do not own plus alot more items that were not mentioned I also do not own... and I am ok with that :)
I love seeing gypsy 💞
She's a cutie!
No way I can get rid of the TV! Where would I watch you? 😍
Awesome! I think the only situation I see myself needing a hair dryer is if it were very cold and I had to go outside with wet hair.
Rebecca Sisson Yes, there are definitely reasons to need a hair dryer! I think my sister or mom would let me borrow theirs though so I should be good getting rid of hair heat products personally :)
I feel tempted to ask “Who doesn’t know how to boil rice in a pot with hot water?”. 😆
Your channel is inspiring me so much. Thank You! :)
I am Asian and I don't own a rice cooker. And all of the things you enumerated, I don't have them.
No wine glasses, no necklaces, no scarves, no high heels, no tablet, no bath oils, no food processor. I'm different with candles, I just buy candles with smell (vanilla ice cream at the moment) but very rarely (maybe twice a year)
Except a couple things I don’t have the things you listed either Rebecca.
Hi. Interesting ideas. Maybe give home-made candles straight forward once you get used to it, and can buy natural wax direct from wholesalers.
Wow! I love the boots you showed us. What brand?
