Half a Mcenroe is more entertaining than 95% of modern bores. 1984 Mac was cosmic

If it wasn't for Sampras being so hot at the time. I Believe McEnroe would have won his 5th Open and 8th grand slam.

Not sure if McEnroe would have gotten past Andre Agassi in the final. Maybe too much firepower for McEnroe.

Summerall on McEnroe's play against CHesnokov in the previous match:
"better than I've seen him play in 7 or 8 years, maybe...."
So that would better than any tennis McEnroe has played since 1983 or 1982. I guess Pat didn't have anything to do with professional tennis in 1984, which was Mac's best year of his career, by far.......

What a great match : both having their turns at leading .. many quality shots, variety. Good sports on both sides -- no real interruptions except from the crowd - which is to be expect considering how it unfolded.

Funny Mary doing commentary on McEnroe. She does a good job of appearing unbiased.

This was one of Mac’s better late career wins. Sanchez playing his best, and I thought the better player for most of the match, came off the boil just a tad and.Mac found some of the old magic. I loved watching Mac and he was great especially in his prime, but I think there is some mythology around it as well due to his unique, and for most of us, mesmerizing style of play. He made a lot of stunning touch shots and crazy angles, everyone remembers those, but he also missed his share. He did actually miss shots and as a fan of his there were many times when I would shake my head and think he should have just put the ball away rather than try to finesse another drop volley or clever placement and miss. I saw many a volley he could have stomped on but chose to be too clever and missed the shot. I can say this having wanted him to make every shot and win every match.

Great points very entertaining match but the level was way below par if you compare it against the top 5 of the time

Anyone know where I can find McEnroe Vs David Wheaton in the quarters of this tournament? It's the next matches he played before getting knocked out by Sampras. Been looking for it for years on UA-cam. Still nothing

How the hell did Sanchez became #7 in the world with a backhand like that ? Looks like a club player

I ask the same question every time I see Zverev serve double after double (he's fucking 7ft tall) or shank forehand after forehand when the pressure is on.... But hey...I guess winners find a way to win.

Getting Tony Palafox as his coach again was the best decision. MCEnroe could have easily won 1990 US Open.

👎🏻 Horrible video quality. Filmed 1950's tennis highlights were far superior to view.

A junior player could beat either of these two today. Beyond mediocre.
