Ok . how much did you charge this customer, and how much time did you waste when trying to do a 'repair' on something which couldn't be guaranteed . And you filmed it all and posted it because your trying to 'teach people' lol
Top man, very few engineers like you’re self who dont waffle and you makes decent contents. Ive liked your video due to the nature of your honesty. Keep it up buddy
Get video. I've done it the other way with fuel pump pliers. I didn't take the div valve out, the pliers brake the tabs then i used a pair of needle nose to take out the cartridge. The tabs can be a bit hard to brake but it works just fine .
I worked on this kit at British Gas Xsol, it’s not a bad kit to be fair, I found that the blue clips tended to wear after about 3 or 4 swaps, an alternative I used was a pair of fuel line pliers to snap the cartridge lugs and then needle nose pliers to remove the cartridge, then you can use whoever sells the cheaper cartridge. Cheaper repair and unfortunate the recall happened, great tip on the slot as well😉
Don’t think Vaillant are too happy about it😆 it saved BG about £75 per repair, and they swapped over 5000 diverters in 2016. Not sure where you would stand on warranties, but it’s a great fix👍🏻
Good video, shows your experience another way to fix the problem. I normally change the diverter valve but if you can fix it then why not. Slight rust doesn't matter as long as there aren't any holes that can affect the room seal.
I think everyone is different we all have to make choices based on what we see on site. Personally I'd change the whole DV assembly. Had enough call backs through trying to repair so thats what i always do now. But as i say we're all different and have to make our own choices, as there are so many factors at play. Also from a customer relations point of view and with experience I always get the customer to look at the state of the boiler, always make them aware that once one thing goes its possible others will follow.
That boiler has been fine with the second cartridge in it. I have just fitted one of these in my mum boiler. Full, in the family test. :-). I work on a lot of contracts and how I fix boilers varies depending on how the pay works. Unfortunately, I cant always replace the whole part. :-)
Nice one , i buy from the same guy on e bay and ive fitted about 10 up to now and touch wood have not had any issues with them leaking , if your going to fit a lot of these get yourself a pair of the cranked long reach grips from e bay ( about £ 15 ) and they make the job a lot easier... cheers
Umar K ......yes , I used to use the plastic clamp before finding this tool and it makes the job so much easier....👍 There is a company on eBay I think it's called ( partsdaddyuk ) sorry no link and they sell them for about £ 7 , I think they call them a fuel line clamp ,
@@HeatingGeekisnt it just as easy to change the whole divertor and housing rather than the cartridge also which model vaillant combi is this please mate? Thanks

I will say 😂 great video 👍 really helpfull. used one of these to replace divy valve exactly like you showed after fitting no leaks but only top floor rads getting hot which no amount of balancing could fix 🤷♂️
You guys fitting non OME parts have big balls, I personally won't take the risk, with my clients money or my time. I was particularly interested to watch this as I've got a sweating DV on a clients 837 " to do" and after watching and reading the comments I've not changed my opinion. Great vid and comments as usual .thanks
Just did this, couldn’t get the cable tie to work on brass valve so just broke the tabs from inside with a screwdriver. Easy steps after that. Pin was corroded on previous one. £30 job, was quote £400 for a new brass valve. Time will tell if it was a success but all looks ok after 2 days.
As other people have said - the first clampy thing is a bit useless - small flat bladed screwdriver in from the front under the tip of the lugs and twist to snap the old lug off (quite brittle plastic) - then long nose pliers to spin it a bit to break it loose - then long nose pliers again pull on the spindle with a good tug.
Exactly what happened to me used the same kit and it started leaking after 2-3 months water was really bad ended up changing the boiler that’s why I always change the whole diverted valve on them now
Salman .....I always give the customer the choice of doing this repair or replacing the whole valve with a recon unit , and I do tell them that it may leak again in the future so that way I cover myself if it leaks , it's all down to the cost of the repair and a lot go for the cheaper option of just replacing the cartridge....👍
Better of just changing the cartridge rather than the whole valve if the system isn't going to be flushed because the same will happen to both but the cartridge is cheaper.
Good video as usual! I presume they are not genuine manufacturers parts. I did a Baxi diverter valve rebuild using a kit that costed about £19 & it started leaking from the stuffing gland & passing in less than a year. The water quality of the system seemed to be ok.
Hello Mate, you've got another Patron, I really do think your efforts in creating this videos deserve a bit of appreciation. Those little tips are priceless, I'm fairly new in the game myself and it's nice to give something back. Hopefully with your help I can soon up my game and maybe move up with my membership. Clicked on your link - scodes nothing happens unless I sign up to this other web 101domain which I did but still a bit lost - there's nothing there. When you get a chance Mate, nothing major.
Excellent explanation. Did you know you can just replace the tiny O ring that is the seal to the spindle. It's a bit fiddly to get the metal washer to slide out sideways but then straightforward. It appears to be an R-01 O-ring: 3.15mm internal diameter x 1.8mm cross section. I'll let you know if it leaks.
I fitted the repaired diverter yesterday in which I changed the "O" ring. The tabs were broken off and I refitted using large cable clips wedged in the two holes where the tabs were. All working fine and no leak from the spindle. Even cheaper than putting in the new valve assembly in!
I generally drill a small hole in the plate where water collects in these Vaillants. Then the owner notices the leak as soon as it starts rather than when there's 8mm of water swimming around and everything goes rusty! And before someone says it stops it being airtight: it isn't airtight anyway, which is why the water finally drips out!
I know it's an old video but I've just come across it whilst looking for feedback on this type of kit. Did you decide it was a good solution rather than change the whole diverter ? Any more issues after the 1st one leaked a couple weeks after fitting? Thanks
Yes. I did. For more cost sensitive customers. Also they have upgraded the kit so you can service it every year with a new seal for cheap. Buycombi have sent me the new type but I didn't get a chance to use it yet.
You can now buy a brass version of this cartridge which looks a lot more robust and it has the added benefit of a replaceable double o ring piston gland so if ever it leaks you can just replace the gland , a great idea I think , valve is £ 22 and replaceable gland £ 8 from eBay.....👍
Ah man, you flow like a bubble bee, keep up the good honest, quality work, this is how good honest methodical engineers should be of this standard, but caution on the tester prongs not too exposed and just want to mention my old man use to descale the old ascots going back almost 40 years ago using pure vinegar he use to always attain from my uncles chippy back in the days he use to take out the old time not sure of the name but was basically the heat exchanger, and fill up with the chippy vinegar leave for 24hrs and following day you see all the scale dissolved, may be even couple cans of coke does the job bit more environmentally friendly lol.
