What do you think of the other actors speaking Russian? Since they weren't allowed to film in the Soviet Union and the producer of the movie Andy Vajna was of Hungarian origin, the "Moscow" scenes were mostly shot in Budapest, with Hungarian actors. At 3:11 it's Gábor Koncz, a popular Hungarian actor back then and Norbert Növényi, Hungarian olympic champion in wrestling (in 1980 Moscow), who started acting later on.
As far as I know they didn’t have the permit to shot at the Red Square. Walter Hill likes his bus chases. He had another in "48 Hours" with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. If you want to see a Walter Hill edge of your seat, watch "Southern Comfort".

Ed O'Ross (Viktor) is one of my favorite character actors. He was all over the place in 80's movies, and he always raised the level of whatever he was in.
Two little neat facts This is the film where French voice actor Daniel Beretta started dubbing Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold himself was impressed upon hearing him on the phone after he was submitted by his talent agent, and chose him on the spot. No role of Arnold has escaped French dubbing by Beretta since and Arnold had to lose weight and James had to gain weight for the film. Credit to TV Tropes and Glad you two love this film it is a favourite of me and my Grandmother.
What y'all should have been told before going down any 80's movie rabbit hole, 80's movies were rife with nudity, violence and sex in just about everything except children's movies. Ray Stevens even wrote a song about HBO of the 80s called Language, Nudity, Violence and Sex. It goes a little like this, "I've got language, nudity, violence and sex, and explicit adult scenes. Heaven only knows, what they'll be showin' next, right there on the TV screen." It's a fun little tune and as a guy that grew up with HBO from its inception, it's VERY accurate. I watched Porky's, Revenge of the Nerds, Poltergeist, Terminator, Blade Runner and dozens of other movies WAY out of my age range at the time, and some of those movies were damn near softcore porn by today's standards, and they weren't really concerned with what time they put something on. I watched Terminator in the middle of the day and I caught Poltergeist running on a Saturday morning once. And don't even get me started on the horror movies!
2:34 - Arnold told a reporter that those are not extras. The government was trying to foster good relations with producer Walter Hill in hopes of seeing more projects with him later on. As a result, he was allowed to shoot inside Red Square. Those are real Soviet Army soldiers in uniform. PS: watching a similar clip of actual Russians reacting to this movie, I was surprised that they said Arnold's Russian pronunciation was decent and they had no trouble understanding him.
As a Russian I must say - you just have no idea how hilarious it is, when they're trying to speak Russian linguage :D Literally all "Russian" lines from this movie became a meme in my country. Especially "Cocainum". 7:43 - he said "F**k your mama in the ass". 8:54 - it's Saveliy Kramarov, one of the most famous and recognizable Soviet comedy actor.
Great pairing of both Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Belushi. They would square off again in "Jingle All The Way." (1996). You should both review the film, "Escape Plan" with both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
Jim Belushi has starred in some excellent movies that unfortunately get forgotten about much too much. Mr. Destiny with Belushi and Michael Caine is so great. K9, another buddy cop movie where Belushi's partner is a German Shepherd. Taking Care of Business starring with Charles Grodin is hilarious! Curly Sue, an underrated John Hughes movie, not as good as Home Alone, Breakfast Club, Planes, Trains, & Automobiles, Uncle Buck and all those but definitely better than what it's gotten credit for. Before you finish your Arnold period, may I recommend Cactus Jack? Arnold plays a dude named Handsome Stranger. And that's just the beginning of the silliness.
Director was Walter Hill, who did 48 HOURS with Nolte and Eddie Murphy, a more well-known "Buddy Cop" sort of movie. Studio was counting on him to repeat a hit formula here. I think they were counting on American audiences to be interested in a grim Soviet fish-out-of-water story, but there's not a lot of comedy in that, and Walter Hill always more at home with the violence than the comedy. He was a lot like Sam Pekinpah, a lot of shoot'emups. Check out 48 HOURS, EXTREME PREJUDICE, or JOHNNY HANDSOME for more Walter Hill.
I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out, and I loved it. Buddy cop movies were a big thing in that era, as was anything with Arnold in it.
In interviews at the time, Arnold said it hard to keep a straight face when Belushi would be improving jokes. You can see Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein
Surprise blast from the past. Haven’t seen or thought about this movie in 15 years. I read somewhere that when they were shooting the outdoor scenes with Arnold in uniform some Russians actually came up to him thinking he was a real policeman.
In the 80s nobody was afraid for the protagonist´s original no big star partner. They always died. There was nothing to worry about, it was just a fact.
Hey, you took my suggestion. Thanks. I highly recommend The 6th Day as your next Arnold film, it is a good mix of adventure, action, comedy and sci-fi.
Aww shoot- you left out Arnie's salute at the end. This rode the tails of Lethal Weapon- however it's a great watch. Love Arnold as a Russian. Deadpan delivery of all his lines ala The Terminator. Belushi is the perfect foil for him- he's essentially the audience thrown into the fray.
I was 13 when this came out. It's rated R and I was in the theater by myself (no one else was there at all, may have been a weekday). One of the employees came in and asked, "are you sure you're old enough for this?" lol I said "yes". My mother's boyfriend had bought the tickets, I can't remember which movie he saw but it was only rated PG or PG-13. Probably why the ticket seller didn't say anything...thinking he was going to see the R rated movie. edit - since my username doesn't give a hint at me being male or female, I'm female. I was a big Arnold fan at the time.
My father first saw this on a screener back in the day when he was in the air force. . It was a one inch videotape that one of his subordinates had a friend in Hollywood that put him a list like a director. He kept saying we got to see this movie at the theater. I ask him if can get a copy, but at the time, the machine use would not allow it and only pros had that video tape player. Because he was in the air force, he access to one at work.
This is a funny movie. The two of them worked great together. The guy they're questioning played Leon the Replicant in Blade Runner. Plus he was General Monroe in Fifth Element, sadly I believe he has passed away.
2:43 - To answer your question, yes it is is a comedy, but action comedy. So it is funny but serious with an actual plot. Check out other buddy cop franchises like 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, Beverly Hills Cop, The Rock, Tango & Cash.
I love your channel. Your reactions are just so natural and not totally overboard like some other channels :) And your choice of movies is always great. Glad you enjoyed this one. OMG, too funny. I was 20 when this movie came out, and I just happened to have just landed in Finland to visit a college friend and stay with his family for a month. Went and saw this in downtown Helsinki...first bit of the movie is spoken in Russian, was subtitled in Finnish...so for a bit there, I was like, "WTF is going on?!?!" lol Added side note, am also a Chicago native, so that aspect of the movie kicks in quite well. :)
Welcome to the style of Walter Hill. This movie is a shared universe with Extreme Prejudice (1987), Lupo the drug seller at the end is the only character to appear in both movies.
Not too sure if you watched "Black Rain" but it had a similar theme of a cop going to a foreign land to carry out an operation with the assistance of his counterpart. Not a comedy but pretty good policier. Stars Michael Douglas and the late Ken Takakura and filmed in New York, Osaka, and Napa Valley.
Loved this movie. Tried to go see it with my dad and they wouldn’t let me in cause I was 15 and it was r rated. But my dad was with me??? We went back the next week and got in. I hope u have eraser & the last stand on your Arnie list?? Last stand was the first film he did after he came back from being governor of California.

I loved how Belushi's character called Arnolds character, Gumby :)
walter hill one of the best, underrated directors. 48 hrs., red heat, southern comfort, johnny handsome, all great movies!
Street of fire
@@jamalbryant8099 i forgot extreme prejudice and the warriors as well 😬
Aw man growing up in the early 90s this was a chi town must, seeing Arnie tear through the city was super rad : D
Last Action Hero - most underrated Arnie movie, with great slapstick humor.
This movie was just too nuts even back in the day lol. Also hellloooo Gina Gershon!
Want to see funny Peter Boyle, check out damn funny Dream Team with Michael Keaton and him (also one of the first roles of Lorreine Bracco)
1:33, actually they filmed parts of the movie in Hungary.
Love this movie a lot. I've never seen anyone react to this.
Yeah!!! Schwarzenegger/ Belushi are about to bring the heat...RED HEAT.
Rated R! In theaters Friday.
You two might wanna watch the Arnold movie Maggie at some time. Its one of his lesser known and more recent but totaly underrated.
You guys are my new favorite channel!
4:28 Each half of a bank note shows the serial number. It's like a foolproof identification thing
A more comedic buddy cop film: "Running Scared" with Billy Crystal & Gregory Hines.
This is a funny movie. The two of them worked great together. The guy they're questioning played Leon the Replicant in Blade Runner. Plus he was General Monroe in Fifth Element, sadly I believe he has passed away.
I just saw a thumbnail on the right. You gotta watch Leon (1994) by Luc Besson with Jean Reno and the very young Natalie Portman. Unique movie.
I think it's in Arnold's contract that his character always has the bigger gun 😆
In my opinion red heat had always been way underrated!
Watch K9 guys! You're gonna love it. It's with Jim Belushi.
And Black Rain, a classic from that era.
Great reaction guys!
Take Care!
Speaking of (Red) Heat…Heat with Pacino and deNiro is another one I would love to see your reactions too…it’s one of my all-time favorite films, and a total classic :) Keep up the great work, and good luck with your channel :)
It was literally, "Half now, half later". *The tearing the 100 in half*
2:57 is not set up jusy Budapest, my country always play Russia :D
and at that time they could only make films in the Hungary inside the Sovjet Unio. Is thanks Andrew G. Vajna big producer (you see his the name all classic movies Rambo, Terminator, Air America and more). They made a lot of movies in Hungary, now just look at Netflix in the same way (I was a statistician too).
little extra info:the guy whose leg is being torn off in 3:14 is Norbert Novenyi Olympic gold medal wrestler(1980) and kickbox world champion (1987).
This was directed by Walter Hill who did classics like The Warriors, 48 hrs, Last Man Standing, Brewsters Millions and produced all the Alien movies.
So great! Keep it up guys! I think you guys would enjoy Jean Claude Van Damme’s 80s and 90s filmography! Particularly Bloodsport, Hard Target, Double Impact, TimeCop, and Universal Soldier.
You posted this video when I was going to bed and that made me sad. But now I'm at work and it is time to watch! :)
2:54 its Prague. Beautiful city.
One of the most underrated buddy cop and Arnold films.
