john smith i do not understand how you think that sound is good. I find it very simple, childish - a descending chord structure. Da da da dahhhhhh da da da dahhhhhh. That's it. It's so simple a child could come up with it. It's insistent becuse they can't take it anywhere, perhaps, because they genuinely don't have the skill to?! If u want to hear something amazing, insistent and something an 8 year old could not play or an adult for that matter, listen to TV Eye by The Stooges. Punk genre, genius. Insistent. Moving. Complex. Raucous. Enthralling.

I was actually recognized by someone I didn't know in a chow hall on Camp Casey, South Korea; he asked if that was me, I said, yeah, then I chowed down (tasting it on the way down) to get back to my job. You need to understand that _Punk_ was a movement that was a total rejection and disgust at a society/music industry it saw as greedy hypocritical and wasteful, it was nihilistic in style, everything was plastic/temporary/rubbish not meant to last so one album was enough, Lydon understood this.
The irony is that society and the music industry has devoured _Punk_ as just another fashion.

Would go in the Pizza Hut at family hours, order a pizza- then a fork and knife just for the argument- and smoke while they waited on me...and having put songs on the jukebox would sit back and await the pissed off reaction when the only two Sex Pistols songs came on- Anarchy in the UK and God Bless the Queen. The reactions were priceless. I lived to tell the tales...poor Sid didnt.

      @OmniphonProductions 9 років тому +14

Johnny Dred Maybe they laugh because, like me, when they think of the Sex Pistols, they think of the PERSONALITIES that made up the band...rather than the music itself. Johnny Rotten (whether genuine or gimmick) went out of his way to be an asshole to everyone, and Sid Vicious was a drug addict who murdered his girlfriend.
While the music is GREAT, the band members' self-made drama overshadows it in most people's memory. That's probably why the Ramones have a more iconic and lasting image. It's not because the music is necessarily better; it's because...as people...the Sex Pistols were a train wreck.
Hopefully time will allow future generations to rediscover the music...and even the attitude...without the distraction of contemporary headlines.

Myself being the tender age of 16 at the time the punk rock movement burst onto the scene, it's very easy to say it was an amazing period overall to live through, especially if music was already a big part of your life as it was in mine, you could literally feel a change happening in the air, it was that potent. But in short, and for all the reasons why I would totally agree with your comment, and even if I am correct in assuming it's for the exact same reasons why you also believe this, I would have to say Nirvana came pretty close though, and I suspect for those who were of an age around that period, probably felt that they were on a par with them..

    • @marting6037
      @marting6037 Рік тому +1

@@rp61productions Nirvana certainly come close but, to my (never)mind, they were more considered and, on occasion, a distinctly darker side. Exciting: No question about that but for me personally I feel The Sex Pistols' controlled chaos and don't give a fck attitude gave them the edge.
Case in point: could you imagine SPs attempting an Unplugged before a live, seated audience or even being invited to do so?
Huge respect for Nirvana but I stand by my original statement.
Another band who certainly make my top five in this would be 'Ace Of Spades' period Motorhead - Lemmy, Eddie and Phil

@@marting6037 I totally agree martin, I don't think anyone will ever outdo the Pistols for what they achieved in the manner they did in such a small time. The look, the swagger, the contempt, and the endless other reasons why, I just thought your initial statement, as bold but yet as true as it is, deserved a friendly prodding challenge as I'm sure you knew it would/will probably get at some point..😉

Cheap holiday in other peoples misery
I don't wanna holiday in the sun
I wanna go to the new Belsen
    I wanna see some history
Cause now I got a reasonable economy
    Now I got a reason
    Now I got a reason
Now I got a reason and I'm still waiting
    Now I got a reason
Now I got reason to be waiting
    The Berlin wall
In sensurround sound in a two inch wall
I was waiting for the communist call
I didn't ask for sunshine and I got World War three
I'm looking over the wall and they're looking at me
    Now I got a reason
    Now I got a reason
Now I got a reason and I'm still waiting
    Now I got a reason
Now I got a reason to be waiting
    The Berlin wall
    They're staring all night
    And they're staring all day
I had no reason to be here at all
And now I got a reason
    It's no real reason
    And I'm waiting
    The Berlin wall
I got to go over the Berlin wall
I don't understand this thing at all
I'm gonna go over the Berlin wall
I'm gonna go over the Berlin wall
I'm gonna go over the Berlin wall
    Claustrophobia there's too much paranoia
    There's too many closets
    So when will we fall
    And now I gotta reason
It's no real reason to be waiting
    The Berlin wall
I got to go over the wall
I don't understand this thing at all
This third rate B movie show
    Cheap dialogue
    Cheap essential scenery
I got to go over the wall
I wanna go over the Berlin wall
Before they come over the Berlin wall
I don't understand this thing at all
I'm gonna go over the wall
I wanna go over the Berlin wall
I'm gonna go over the Berlin wall
Before they come over the Berlin wall
I don't understand this thing at all
Please don't be waiting for me

Sex Pistols was banned in Finland, no work permit for their Helsinki gig, which was planned for January 1978. I wrote an overprovocative story of Johnny et co, which was published in Help/Intro pop magazine just weeks earlier. My writing gave a clear inspiration to a story in Helsingin Sanomat, Finland´s leading daily and caused more uproar, and the eventual banning. My story or Help/Intro wasn´t credited as a source of inspiration. Help/Intro had around 250 000 readers at the time.

They made me how I am and I feel great that even today they still bring the 1978 1979. Out. I have lived a life that I can say was mine. As always fuck the government they always fuck us.
