Tool Spotlight - Woodcut Tools Pro Forme Flexi

This video spotlights the Woodcut Tool Pro-Forme Flexi hollowing tool. I show hollowing a flat sided vessel made of construction lumber just for demonstration purposes. The flat sides allows us to see inside the vessel as the tool hollows. You can see exactly how the tool works as it becomes visible through the side openings.

It is a good looking tool set. Obviously well made. fit and finish looks to be spot on. The cutter is sharp and cuts the pine with ease. Not sure of the cut in hardwood. However the tool suffers from the lack of multi point support al-la the Lyle Jameson and the Trent Bosh hollower's. There is a lot of bouncing at the tool end when reaching deeply into the bowl. Glen, the tool bounce is from my lack of support as I cannot put on a long handle because I am surrounded by camera gear. It is the sacrifice I make so that I can produce video and live demos like this. In your own shop, with a longer handle then you will not have this problem.

@@WoodturningToolStore Thanks for the explanation. Interestingly I watched a segment on the symposium this morning in which the demonstrator used those tools with great results. I forget his name but you were in attendance. He was turning some dark colored wood and the cuttings were coming out of the inside in ribbons. very impressive.🙂🙂

Pete, thanks and great question. They cut exactly the same. The cutter on the Flexi is the same shape and configuration but smaller than the regular Pro-Forme tools. Use the same techniques for both.
