- Cleaning fruits and vegetables is essential for great-tasting store-purchased produce. I typically clean with a water and vinegar mix, but today I am trying out a cleaning device for washing fruits and vegetables.
Welcome to Simply Mamá Cooks UA-cam Channel! I am a Mom to a blended Korean / Mexican American family that loves to share what I cook in my home. I am still learning and enjoying the process of making home-cooked food.

Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉 It's my first video for 2023. Let's go! 🙌🏼😃
Here's additional info and thoughts on the fruit washing capsule. This capsule is described as a machine that uses electrolysis to sanitize and clean fruits and vegetables. I searched info on this method, and here is a brief explanation : "What is water electrolysis technology?
This technology uses a mild saltwater solution and electrical current to produce two streams of electrolysed water-one negative for cleaning and the other positive for sanitising and disinfecting. You may also hear the technology referred to as “electrolysed water.”
Visually, the capsule/machine appears to work or, at the very least, agitate the water. The water was also dingy compared to the vinegar one. I think vinegar is trusted because it is proven a great disinfectant.
It boils down to whether I trust the capsule is doing what it promises. By appearance of the water and taste of the strawberry, it worked in my opinion. Do I know the fruit to be sanitized? No, because I would need to look under a microscope to be 100 percent sure. In conclusion, vinegar is always a safer bet, but I have been so curious to try out this machine, and I finally did that. 😊
Happy new years to you and your family god bless
Thanks for testing that gadget! I would really like to see more kitchen gadget videos. 😎
Happy New Year!!! And yes!!! YES to making this gadget testing a regular thing on the channel!! I would LOVE that! I'm constantly looking for new things to try out in the kitchen and would love reviews from someone I trust to tell me the truth about them! Much love to you and your beautiful family!🥰
So do you trust the vinegar and water method more ?
a gadget series would be great!
How times have changed, when I was growing up (1950s) it wasn't unusual to find worms in corn, apples, basically any fruit, we just cut off the worm-eaten section and finished eating the fruit. Now if someone finds a bug, they sue the company/grower and then wonder why food costs are so high.
Some of the very best sweet corn I have ever eaten had a worm in every ear, we cut it out, cooked it up and it was great. I would gladly deal with the worms if I could get corn like that again, this happened years ago….
I'm less worried about bugs but more worried about bacteria or germs. We had vegetable gardens and fruit trees growing up, and bugs were natural. I see people sneeze and cough all over the grocery store, so I pretty much wash everything. 😬
I rarely wash my fruits except for a cursory rinse. I’m still alive and kicking😂
People don't sue for finding bugs in produce.
Parasites are in soil.
Yes, I would like to see a weekly kitchen gadget review from someone who actually cooks!! Thank you, Happy New Year 😊
Loved the video demonstration. The only thing I would suggest is the gadget in just a bowl of water to see if it gets dingy by itself. And if the water stays clear, redo the vinegar soaked strawberries with gadget to see if or how dirty the water gets...
Just to see how clean it actually makes the strawberries....
The water will change color. The water color change is just a result of the action of electrolyzing the water. It's perfectly harmless, safe and normal. And an indication that the unit is working.
Could you show a clip where you just put this into a bowl of water with no fruits or vegetables? I am curious if it is cleaning the water.
I would definitely want lab results. After all, what are we testing for/against?
Right lol. I bought one and realized there's literally know way to know if they're clean lol.
Yeah what if it makes the water dirtier & that’s why it looks like that after it’s done. Gross, I wouldn’t want that at all unless it’s 100% accurate & cleans cleans.
Generally, I wash my fruits and vegetables in baking soda solution. I clean my potatoes by rubbing them with a thin paste of baking soda. It works great! It's not water soluble so you never have to worry about absorption by the fruit which is not true for salt or vinegar. Baking soda is a purifier that works by absorption much like activated charcoal. Where as vinegar is an acid that breaks down the fiber structure of the fruit itself and can be absorbed. 🤓 ♥
How much baking soda ratio do you use?
@@iMichellet7 Just add a little water at a time until it becomes paste. I use sprinkle some baking soda on my wet hand and rub it all over potatoes.
I think washing in a water / vinegar solution disenfects. The baking powder is a great way to clean but does not sanitize as well. I will definitely be using this for scrubbing potatoes. That is such a great idea. Thank you! 👍🏼
@ Baking "soda". Not baking powder. Bicarbonate of soda. Not the same. Vinegar doesn't technically disinfect but more so its an acid that breaks down protein structures that make them readily wash away. This is why it works well as a degreaser. I love your show! 😍 Love you! I'm all about what's "comfortable for your home". I appreciate you so much in all the things you do and your great efforts for your family and your kitchen. Best to you in the New Year!
@@iMichellet7 depending upon how much fruit or vegetables you're washing, about a tablespoon to a medium sized bowl of fruits or vegetables with water and swirl it around occasionally. I think 30 minutes is plenty. 15 minutes will do the job. Be sure to give a rinse after soak. It works really well for tomatoes to get that waxy greasy coating off.
Hi Angelica, yes maybe a once a month or every two weeks gadget review would be nice, sometimes one doesn't even know these things exist to make our kitchen/cooking experience better!
Thank you! Yes! That sounds like a great idea. 😊
Yes Please do review more kitchen gadgets!! Thank you for this review and Happy New Year!!
I’ll stay with the old school method. Thank you for the demonstration. I think the yellow foggy water was from whatever was coming out of the blue capsule.
The water color change is just a result of the action of electrolyzing the water. It's perfectly harmless, safe and normal. And an indication that the unit is working.
@@Lucinda_Jackson also, vinegar acts like a bleach, so not surprised water is clearer
My Uncle bought one. It caught on fire and exploded. We laughed at him and told him of course Water and Electronics don't mix. :)
The landscape of instructional cooking videos is not tiny. It takes a unique approach and style. you have nailed it!
This is cool. Thank you spending your time... love your recipes 😋.
Thank you for this demo! I love kitchen gadgets! I would love more demos for sure!
Love all your videos!
Happy new year!!!
Yes! More reviews of kitchen gadgets. I love your honest opinions. Cheers!
I like kitchen gadgets 😊
I myself am not into the trendy kitchen gadgets because more times than not they are a waste of money and take up valuable space. But if it was good, solid cooking tools then yes that would be fun to watch!
I still just clean my berries as I eat in good old water. Never had an issue.
Best comment!
Yess you should make this a thing on your channel where you test out gadgets!
Epicurious does that on their channel. It’s silly gadgets and good ones. The man who tests them has designed many kitchen gadgets, but he doesn’t test his own designs. He’s super funny.
Thank you for the info and video. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Happy New Year to you and your family as well and thank you for trying this as I'd been wondering about it and yes I use good old fashioned vinegar and water too. Love your recipes and your great advice.
Try the machine in a plain bowl of water to see if the water clouds up. If it’s cloudy, then you know it’s not all dirt. If it’s clear, then you know it works really well. I just use the vinegar method too. That’s how I clean/disinfect my house. (Vinegar, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide because I can’t use chemicals or scented products…and it’s reliable and cheaper.)
Great idea
Yes, I found the video helpful. Thanks for reviewing this kitchen gadget. Have a blessed & fantastic new year. 😊 Love your channel. ☺️
You are the cutest! I’m a deli owner and love watching people who are passionate about cooking. Love love watching you and you have the most beautiful face ❤
Was there a difference in taste between the two ways
Happy New Year's 2023. Hope u had a good one. Thanks for showing us how this gadget works. You should show us everytime u get a new gadget to try out.🥰
I thought the vinegar was supposed to kill or retard the growth of the mold/mildew that is on the strawberries. I use that and dry and pack in glass jars in my fridge. They make 2 weeks with no issue stored like that. TFS.
Maybe that's a test she can do - dry them, pack them and see how long they last in the fridge. That would be a good indication whether the gadget sanitizes as well as the vinegar.
It definitely does. Works wonders on cilantro
A 👍weekly (or even bi-weekly) kitchen gadget test would be a great addition to your channel. Also - I don't understand how to tell if the gadget u used today really works? I thought maybe there was a Filter inside that you open & See all the Debris or u were gonna inspect the bottom of both bowls (after taking out fruit) 4 a Comparison? Or maybe gently take out as much water as possible & run a clean, white paper towel along the bottom of both bowels & see which had more debris? One Bowl Clear & the other Bowl Cloudy leaves me kinda 🤷♀
Yes! I see so many gadgets that trend or Im curioys about. I'm definitely going to try them. I pinned a comment explaining additional thoughts on this. I think the machine functions properly, but to really know if the fruit is sanitized, I would need to use a culture and put it under a microscope.
@ Thank U Anjelica for taking the time to write. I'm a very new subscriber & I made your Birria for Christmas & my family really L❤VED it! Doing gadgets might have a learning curve - but I know you'll handle it well. 😁
I always look at these devices in terms of my own Zombie Apocalypse Test, i.e., how will it work when the grid is down. Needs electricity? Won't work when zombies overwhelm the electrical workers. Vinegar? Great for those who have holed up in Costco. Seriously, Epicurious did a scientific test a while back and the electrolyte way is maybe as effective as clean tap water, but not more. Just another gadget. But I love this type of review and hope you do more because I'd like to see what works and what doesn't.
You can make your own vinegar! But yes, I agree. Everything has to pass the ZA test. Isn't everyone doing it? Omg it's 1984 already
Zombie's are you one of the Lori & Chard friends?? LDS
Happy New Year🙌🏽🎉🙏🏽Yes I would love to see a gadget review series.🙂
Yes please test more gadgets. Thank you.
Very interesting! I enjoyed this. Happy New Year and best wishes for every happiness in the new year.

I love the Kitchen Mama can opener! It is great! ❤👍
Yes, this needs to be a weekly series!
3 parts water, 1 part vinegar for those who need to know.
Great Video! Please, Keep these type videos coming for sure!!!
I would like to see more of these videos. I can't think of any new gadgets but as someone with rheumatoid arthritis any gadget that makes it easier to work in the kitchen I'd love to see. 😊 Hope your year is off to a great start.
That would be fun to try gadgets! Do it 🤩
Happy New Year 🎆 thank you for the information. Yes I would like a weekly review.
I have always been told to wash fruits and vegetables right before serving to deter mold.
Thanks for testing this for us, and I would love for you to make testing products a regular feature!🙏❤️
So beautiful Thanks for sharing 👌👌
I appreciated this!!
Cool, Yes I would enjoy more testing of gadgets.
Big fan, love your channel. I'm here for all kinds of kitchen gadget testing. Your reviews on such would go a _long_ way with me.
Happy new year love your videos ♥️
Hello. I’ve been curious about this for sometime. NEVET knew what it was called. Thank you for your helpful video regarding this little device. I think I just might get one.
Yesss test out products ❤
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM MINES TO YOURS 🙏 GURL I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT THINGY
OLD SCHOOL METHOD FOR ME IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT 👍🏽 THANKS FOR SHARING ❣️
Happy New Year. Great gadget. 👍
I’ve not seen this gadget, and I’m curious, how do you know which method works best?
I love your review! Great idea!
Hell I'm 65yrs old and I've been eating my fruit right out of the box my entire life and I'm not dead yet......
Thank you for sharing this. ❤
Never seen these before, but if it works, it would be great. We don’t know the half of what’s in or on our food! Thanks for sharing the video
I wash mine in vinegar and water as well.
Happy New Year I also love kitchen gadgets
Thank you for sharing Angelika have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. Interesting gadget but I'll stick with the water and vinegar. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
I'm more interested in "how to store food to stay fresh longer" ex. Bananas, avocados, vegetables, etc. Try 2 ways and show which one kept fresh longer.
Great idea. I’d like to learn about storing longer also.
I tried my own experiment with celery. On 11/14 I wiped clean a few fresh stalks and cut in 4" pieces. Stuffed them into pint Ball jars, filled just one with water and screwed the lids on. The celery in jar with water became soft and slightly discolored by12/2. The jar without water was still crisp on 12/14!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO AND FAMILY!❤😂
Happy New Year! I think it would be cheaper to do it the old school way. Lol love from Colorado.
Thank you. Just an idea, try the little machine in a bowl of just water and see if it gets cloudy...
The water will change color. The water color change is just a result of the action of electrolyzing the water. It's perfectly harmless, safe and normal. And an indication that the unit is working.
Yes, please test gadgets!!
Happy New Year !🎊🎈🎆
Happy 2023 🎄🎊🎉🥳💕
Yes, please do more gadgets! I bought that rubber backsplash thing and wasted my money. Water still got under and was gross after a few days.
Thank you I appreciate you showing this to us. Patsy
Hi thanks a lot because I was really thinking about buying one of these and now I will I'm gonna put my order in right now hey have a blessed day hon ❤❤🤒💋👍🌺
Idk why I’m so excited for this video haha 😅
You should try using the device in plain water and see if the water changes color.
Happy New Year! I've heard your method of using vinegar and water not only cleans but preserves the strawberries longer. Curious if the gadget does the same?
Happy new year 🎉
Hi Angelica! Happy New Year! 😊 I've tried some of your recipes and we love the flavors. I'm so excited I found your channel recently. I even purchased your book to show my support!!! I think it's so nice of you to recommend gadgets and such. I was wondering about washing produce this way. How would we know if this really works. So I was checking online to see if I could find a website that could recommend this tool. I couldn't find anything, but the FDA website popped up so I clicked on it to see what they said. The FDA recommends that we wash our hands with soap and water before we touch the produce and then to simply clean everything with clean, clear water from the tap. I don't know if that's because of flouride or other substances added to water, but they even recommended that we not use vinegar. I don't know why that is, but Healthline also recommended the same thing, but they were following the FDA recommendations as well. They said that using other ways to clean produce might even be harmful. I thought you'd like to know that! 😊💕
Thanks for the info!
Thanks,Happy New Year😊🎉
Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉
I’ve always done the white vinegar on berries because it’s supposed to make them last longer in the fridge. What was your experience with the gadget?
Happy New Year !!!
Happy new year from Mexico great receipes vamos arriba y adelante
Happy new year, Angelica!
Lol I'm 69 and love your channel, was a store manager for a well known chain. All I ever did was simply rince of fruits and vegetables, thank God no bugs came out durring your test.
I am so glad you did this test, I've been thinking about this for a while. Wonder what the price is. What other veggies do you use with the vinegar 🤔
I would say the old school method works however because its yellowish and or brownish water it tells me that the dirt came off the strawberries and to be honest the strawberries looked so much brighter after it was done. I THINK IT WORKS!!!
Well it also could have something coming out of that machine to make the water cloudy.
I like the review. Me personally I prefer the vinegar/water. Especially since the machine needs electricity to charge.
Love this review, can you provide the link to purchase this item? Thanks
Happy New Years ❤❤❤
Hi I'm curious did you notice a difference in taste from the two cleaning options of the strawberry?
Thanks for the info! I think a weekly serials of gadgets would be a cool idea. I'd definitely watch it.
That was interesting. I personally wouldn't buy it. In my mind, baking soda and water mixture does the job well enough.
Weekly or monthly gadget videos sounds like a great series. I'm a gadget person and would like to see what you come up with. Maybe after watching you show us some, I'll actually buy instead of window/screen shop.
The videos showing the bugs coming out of the strawberries was proven to be fake and clickbait.
Hmm.. that honestly just looks like a dressed up mist maker. Thank you for trying it out so we can see it ❤️
Vinegar mixed with fresh tap water is best, and makes fruit last way longer.
I like the kitchen gadget review idea.
Doesn't the vinegar alter the taste of your fruits and vegetables?
No, it doesn't. If that's a concern for you, you could rinse them in clear water, but I've never had them taste of vinegar if using the 3:1 ratio.
@@Lucinda_Jackson Good to know! Thank you!
Good cooks don't have a drawer full of gadgets.
Look like a ionic device...sometimes it creates water color. I use peroxide...bicarbonate soda...vinegar on various fruits vegetables and meats. Thx4sharing ⚜️✌️
