Still my 2nd favorite adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, after the 1951 black & white version starring Alastair Sim. _Scrooged_ will Bill Murray is #3 for me.👍 Merry Christmas everybody! ❄️🎅🎄🦌🎁☃️🍪
For anyone wondering, it's called "Duck to the Future". And because I can't resist throwing my two cents in, my personal favorite is "Treasure of the Golden Suns", followed by "Curse of Castle McDuck" 😁
Scrooge McDuck was being Scrooge McDuck (Though McDuck loves his family). And Michael Caine played Scrooge as like a REAL person. So both tied as BEST Scrooge
From what I've read, the best version to watch is the one included in Snowed in at the House of Mouse. It omits the credits, but it's in the original aspect ratio with the best picture quality.
Clarence Nash, the original voice of donald duck, passed away just a few years after appearing in this as it was his last work he ever did aside from visiting children with cancer at local hospitals. I find it very special that he left us with one of the greatest stories ever told. RIP to a true legend and a great man. Thanks for all the laughs buddy
Danish TV was ideologically captured in the 70s and 80s, and American productions were generally frowned upon there - especially Disney. This meant an extreme thirst for Disney in the population, which was partially quenched by the Donald Duck magazine. When videos became household items, it was American movies and perhaps mostly Disney, that people wanted. My parents didn’t want one, so I was 17, when I bought one myself in the early 90s. My first two movies were Dumbo and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. I still watch Mickey’s Christmas Carol every year, along with From All of Us to All of You.
I remembered that this movie is on Disney plus and it's also in the program Once Upon a Studio. This movie won an academy award for best animated short subject.
Thank you for this wonderful coverage on a classic! I absolutely love watching this on TV back in the later 80s so it's always great to see the behind the scenes what's a favorite production! ❤️
Only version i know of where Ghost of Christmas Future talks (which is the BEST one cause it's Pete). And Scrooge does more than die. He goes to HELL!!!!!!!
This is an obvious redemption story. I love how this version shows that Scrooge's fate is ultimately hell, unless his heart changes. It's definitely one of the most interesting takes.
In a way, they kind of got their wish of wanting it to be a TV special since even though it premiered in theaters, it ended up playing on TV during the Christmas season in the following years. I remember watching this on TV as a kid in the 90s. I wish they still aired it. I don't know why they don't anymore.
Always enjoyed Mickey's Christmas Carol, especially b/c it brought back iconic Disney characters that were sitting dormant for decades. It's also important to note how its success & legacy brought upon other adaptations of classic literature, such as Three Musketeers & Prince & the Pauper. Here's hoping we finally get a Mickey Mouse & friends movie. Not sure what the plot would be. But if Once Upon A Studio shows it can be pulled off, then why not go for broke & produce a feature?
Thank you for sharing this. I was 4yrs old when this movie came out. I remember asking Mama, 'Why did Tiny Tim have to die?' That scene with Mickey at Tim's grave is the most powerful scene in any Disney animated feature. I also remember the plushies that came out, I think by McD's or Hardee's. I still have all of mine & the new ones that were released about 20yrs ago. I've loved Scrooge ever since this I saw this cartoon. Just watching it and realizing that he acts mean but, he's really a nice guy at heart who's been hurt by his love of $$ and all the bad decisions he's made. His journey to redemption is great to see. In addition, DuckTales is a cool TV show.
Mickey/Cratchit sure got hosed in this version! The original Cratchit got 2 1/2 schillings (half crown) a day and a full day off for Christmas with pay!
I loved the LP as a child and was sad the music wasn’t included in the cartoon. It is still my favorite Christmas Carol adaptation but it could have been so much better.
I was particularly interested in researching this too find out that it was Miller, and possibly some other suits too, who told Mattinson to drop the music. That particular bit comes from Mattinson himself.
Of all "A Christmas Carol" adaptations this one is my favorite. Alan Young brought so much to Scrooge.

Merry Christmas everybody!
❄️🎅🎄🦌🎁☃️🍪
BEST eposide of DuckTales: Scrooge is being VERY Scroogey. He goes to the future and sees the nephews inherent the business and are even worse
On the plus side, when they did realize that was their dear Uncle Scrooge, in the future, they wasted no time and made sure he was okay!
“You old fuddy duddy” 😂 I love that episode
Yep, by far the best episode of DuckTales!
For anyone wondering, it's called "Duck to the Future".

@kenisu3000 No Gold Sun! No Gold Sun!
2:04 Interestingly, that version had Merlin from Sword in the Stone as the Spirit of Christmas Past, but was later replaced with Jiminy Cricket.😄
And the Ghost of Christmas Future was the witch from Snow White.
Scrooge McDuck was being Scrooge McDuck (Though McDuck loves his family). And Michael Caine played Scrooge as like a REAL person. So both tied as BEST Scrooge
I have Mickey's Christmas Carol on DVD.
I grew up with this version. Use to own the VHS. So many memories ❤
I watch the movie every single year with my children. Christmas wouldn't be the same without it

I like Mickey's Christmas Carol
I literally just watched this special last night for the first time since I was little. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching!
MIckey's Christmas Carol really does feel like it's the last hurrah of a kind of Disney now long gone

That's awesome! Mickey's Christmas Carol is definitely an annual tradition for me.

I believe it was nominated but did not win. Totally forgot to mention that.

@ParkNarcz sorry meant *with a favorite production*
Still catch this one every year. Used to love having it come on network TV back when I was a kid.
I wondered for some years now what John Lasseter did on Mickey's Christmas Carol, as there was no info online about it. Finally I get to know.
Only version i know of where Ghost of Christmas Future talks (which is the BEST one cause it's Pete). And Scrooge does more than die. He goes to HELL!!!!!!!
It's a great scene!

3:18 Fun fact: the character of Scrooge McDuck was directly inspired by Ebenezer Scrooge (but you probably already knew that).🤔💰
7:22 "What is that? A canary?"😅
In the book I think it's a goose, but I really don't know lol.

Because Disney Plus, they don’t want you to watch anything for free, just like Scrooge 😂
I have watched this special every year for the last 35 of my life and I never realized until just now that Pluto was not in it.

The version you find on Disney+ in Germany is the best one since it has the original German dubbing, not the new one.
Mickey's Christmas Carol is absolutely Disney, it was produced from Disney's classical and Merry Melodies days.
Don’t you mean Silly Symphony’s?
Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for watching! I wish McDonalds still sold plushies like that!
Mickey/Cratchit sure got hosed in this version! The original Cratchit got 2 1/2 schillings (half crown) a day and a full day off for Christmas with pay!
Alan Young, and Alan Dineheart also worked together on 'Battle Of The Planets'.

When you talked about Ed Gombert, you showed a picture of Chris Sanders instead (3:29). 😬
Thank you! I will fix this!
I had to blur it. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
Completely eclipsed by the Muppets version
