I like how fm synthesis has the ability to sound extremely retro and extremely modern. I really like the space sounds here (the reverb is a good addition).

@@rayderrich I get the best results from limits.. i think of a band with just a few insturments... that's how electronic succeeds with me, just a few things going on. enough that it is interesting but not too much that its confusing.

I already did a few sessions in which I limited myself to using one synthesizer, or only one idea or question to challenge myself knowing that it would only take a few hours at most to come up with a solution. It is so easy to lose focus with all the powerful 'things' we have these days.

For all of you who always listen particularly well. Yes, the sound is not optimal. In fact, I had to spend a lot of time restoring the left side of the soundtrack, but it was worth it to me. The background is that my Rolnd Go Mixer Pro is being repaired and I currently have to record with the Behringer UMC 404 HD. It is stupid if you press the mute button on the left side and don't notice it. So all in all I'm glad that the recording was halfway successful and that my Roland mixer will be back soon, right @Thomann :)
Helpful note to anyone planning to do a similar session: A potential danger of high pitched FM synthesis going though a long reverb is some very painfully unpleasant treble that really needs to be tamed in a mixing/mastering session with automated EQ cuts.
Roland go is such a trashy mixer after all?? Volca bro why you not buy a good small format mixer like an Allen Heath or Yamaha?!? I can guarantee that you will have a much better quality with the eq and gain correction. Keep up the good work 💪👍👌

This whole track is incredible, very nicely played. Do you feel that the sheer amount of presets available means that someone can enjoy the fm to the fullest extent without the need to deep dive into synth creation? For example this was just one preset and it never gets old.
The answer to your question is: YES ..... at the end its good to know how FM Syntesis works at all just to understand the knobs and their function on the Volca FM.

Thank for listening and congrats on your decision 😊 1. There is a sustain function. But 2. In this case I used a shimmer reverb...the specular reverb v3.

Man I love this and your channel. I want to buy a volca FM but need it for basic layering. Do you know if the volca FM can play a different preset over a recorded pattern? For instance if I recorded chords with one preset, can I play a melody over it with a different preset if I am not recording the melody, just live playing? Thank you for everything.

@@Volcaniced I've got dexed and an SSD full of DX7 patches, but this little gem (esp the mk2 version with 6 voices) can stuff into the gig bag with my SY-1000 and let me not have to hassle with a laptop in my guitar rig. Gonna have to get one, methinks.

Spirit-1 is part of the alltheweb patch pack you can download here bobbyblues.recup.ch/yamaha_dx7/dx7_patches.html. You can use "Dexed" to load it on the Volca FM.

@@Volcaniced It's no prob man. She means a lot to me. I did a video on it awhile ago stating my content will be effected till she's gone. Sad so say it's getting near the end of that time frame and it's by far her hardest days. It's been a hard choice between ending her life and letting her enjoy some final days. I don't want to cut her off to early but at the same time don't want her suffering
@@Volcaniced I think this week will be the week I make the call. Once she is gone my content will go back to a more normal pacing. I'm just glad she got a few days in the spring sun & breeze with a open window and didn't die in the grasp of New England's winter.
Isn't it a bit too random to change algorithms. I mean it is really impossible to predict the changes that it makes to the sounds. Not that it can still make fun, but it is not really a thought-through way of shaping sounds. An I making sense? 😂

@@Volcaniced I keep meaning to write a script to go through SYX files and spot the ones that are just renames or octave tweaks (some for good reasons such as DX5 layers but others because of people sneakily reselling old patches). I've got hundreds of patches but too many are variations of each other so I lose interest after the first 64 or so.

Its only one patch. I change the sounds with the different algorythms ... you got 32 of them with every patch you use.

Question: Volca Drum has a lot of background noise. Is it the same for Volca FM?
There is a light background noise with every volca. A Noise filter might help. Check the Mickxer by "my voice".

Yes you are right. I better used "patch" not preset. Hmmm sorry. But English is not my mother tough... So mistakes happen.
