    Slinger was always a great place to watch trains. I always got a kick out of how the Soo Line and the Milwaukee decided to provide crossing protection. Back in the day, Soo Line blasted through Slinger at 40+ mph and had cantilever arm wig-wag signals and they put upwards of 30 trains per day through Slinger. Milwaukee back then was putting the Hartford Switcher through Slinger (one each way) and the "Patrol" that night (one each way), so four trains per day and they had newer Griswold Crossing Signals over the Main Street. Soo Line held many meets at Slinger, and there was an industry there that got Trailer-On-Flatcar service---they had their own ramp to load/unload. I remember watching the Colgate turn switching the place. Fond memories of having been inside the Depot at Slinger. Met the Agent many times; he and my Dad seemed to know each other. I haven't been in Slinger in over ten year; I wonder if the Storck Brewery buildings still exist?

    I miss the CNW and the original Soo Line! I grew up watching both those railroads in my youth with the CNW in Barrington and the Soo Line near Buffalo Grove when I went to Apatistic Tripp elementary in the 1970s.

    I remember growing up as a kid (25 now) seeing those WC's go past my house in Upper Michigan. I miss the sound of those engines and horns so much.

      +Eric (ericondefense) I never saw trains in Denmark or Pulaski but I would say they were probably 30MPH maximum when they still ran.

      Eric, I was wrong, I just found a shot from Denmark, I will put it up shortly in a video on WC Excursions out of Green Bay.

      Yep it is. This used to be the Milwaukee Road's secondary between Portage and Milwaukee that served places like Horicon, Beaver Dam, Pardeeville, Iron Ridge and Slinger before the 1977 bankruptcy that forced the MILW to embargo this and other branches in its system.

      Old Line, Northern Division. Original main line between Milwaukee and Portage.

    So GBW would have went bankrupt too right

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  6 років тому

      Eric not necessarily. They just weren't profitable enough and the owners decided to sell to WC.

    • @Eric-un5ov

      So either way GBW would have been bought right

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  6 років тому

      Eric basically because there were 2 ways to get across town and only one was needed.
