Good evening, I am pleased to see that you are taking advantage of the scrap value. I also realize that it's not always to get your hands on all the scrap wire. Good for you, Joe Capo.
Years ago I was on a job where we had loads of 185 4 core- I took 2 days to strip it all and the Mrs was going mad because there was pvc everywhere in the garden - she wasn’t so angry when I brought £2,500 back from the scrap man! Paid for a holiday for us - happy days
That stuff is hard work to strip with a knife the plastic is hard as he'll I struggled to go through a pile I had it took a very long time compered to dome of the other armoured cable I've stripped good luck brother
@jointechcabling9103 if I was dealing with cable all the time I would definitely get one but I only collect it from work I work on building sites old and new I always pic it up it's a habit collect cable 😅
@@jointechcabling9103 Love your work, top notch ,I'm the same but worse , no phantom tripping in my house ,I have a 4 way wylex with 3 X bombproof fuse wire and one 6 amp MCB and no bonding , but don't tell anyone 😜
I get mine from the job I'd do. One thing I would say is try and get friendly with businesses on industrial areas around your city. They may start leaving scrap metal out for you. Also skips are sometimes a great source of all kinds of scrap.

Class video mate, just one question for my predicament, if you don't have the setup you have and had to do it by hand, is it still worth the graft to handball it for about 60 kg of it?
It’s only aluminium on single core cables. Three core and four core uses steal armouring. It’s to do with the earthing capabilities and so on and so forth.
Wish I had that machine right now I'm stripping 300&500 mil and I got about 300 feet of cable that weighs 60lbs per foot with jacket and with out jacket it's 55lbs per foot it's massive I gotta use a grinder with a cut off wheel to strip it cuse I'm not taking 1.75 a lb for it when I can get 4.80 a lb in usd
Are there machines out there for 2500mm sq cable? (Diameter with XLPE is prob around 111mm?) I mean what would the scrap man use if you weighed it in ‘dirty’ (heavy)? Surely not a skill saw or petrol grinder?
2500mm square cable may exist but I'd assume it was for undersea transfer voltages or something very specific. The biggest cable I've ever worked with is a 4cx400mm and that has a diameter of around 72mm. I've seen lead covered undersea cables that are probably 100mm plus in size but never been hands on. That scrapyards have industrial stripping machines that could easily handle cables that big. They also have granulation plants that turn cables into copper dust and remove everything else using cyclonic separation techniques and magnets.
E-bay, Amazon, lots of places you can get them. I bought a new one a couple of weeks back off eBay from a guy in Wales who makes them. It's a handy tool, I paid 250 for mine with a 1kw motor that can do anything from 1mm - 50mm 👍🏽 Best value for money one I could find.
@@jointechcabling9103 It's surprising the guys running the cables let you take the scrap - is that normal practice in the UK? not that I would be complaining 😂😂

Thats a beautiful thing mate. Hahaha. Brings a tear to my eye all that beautiful big bright shiny wire. Haha.
Great video 👊
It took longer than I thought it would. Happy with the results though😬😬😬

For this reason I bought a stripping machine about 9 years ago. I don't put armoured cable through but when the armour is off it's a dream machine

Love the old wylex board in the background with a mixture of rcb's and good old bombproof 30amp rewireable fuses. 🤣 No nuisance tripping🤣
I've got a new board in the garage to be installed but you know what it's like working on your own house😂😂😂

Hey man, I'm a scrapper in the US out of Louisiana. Totally new to all this. Any tips on where to look for scrap? How to advertise ect?

Here in Australia the bright and shiny copper is about $8-10/kg. So you should do pretty good out of that lot
I’ll have to look up the exchange rate from aus dollars to gb £.
I got £6 exactly for it.
Hi great video.Where can I find machín me like the small one You are ya ng? Thank you!!
What's the machine like with armoured multi's and triangular cores?
I don't put armoured cable through it coz the blades can get damaged.
It's fine with the triangular cores though
Do you have a recited for the wire that's too much to be finding on the side of the road, maybe ripped off onto the ground or a power line
I work with it all day, its my job. Sometimes the people who im working for will give me the off cuts.

Yeah definitely. 60kg will get you over 300 quid. It'll probably take 2hrs to strip by hand. Not a bad hourly rate😂😂😂
@@jointechcabling9103 i just weighed 38kg of armoured unstripped and got £34. What dya think i'd have got if i stripped it?
Strange cable never seen aluminium armour/earth/neutral with a copper core is that LV or HV cable?
What cable price
is it only alliminium or do you use steel wire armouring,
It’s only aluminium on single core cables. Three core and four core uses steal armouring. It’s to do with the earthing capabilities and so on and so forth.
Nice one , I love a good copper weigh in.......are you a sparky or just do utility cable jointing....!
Cheers mate
I was a spark but I just do LV cable jointing now. I love it, it’s so much better.
Hei. What kind of machine you have? Toni
Afternoon mate where did you get your stripping machine from??
I bought it from a scrap yard in Harrogate. You can get them from eBay. I think they’re around £600. You’ll get a Chinese one cheaper though.
Hey where abouts did you get that machine and how much is it. I do all mine by hand lol
I paid £300 from a scrap yard. You can get them from eBay though for around the same price.

do you realise the black material is pvc and recyclable but the insulation is cross linked polyethelene and not reuseable easily
I did not know that. I thought it was all pvc. So it's better to separate the black outer from the rest for ease of recycling?
@@jointechcabling9103 xlpe Cross linked.. prysmian(old BICC) employee here..28 years for my sins..we haven't insulated in PVC for about 18 years
damn dude. how long did it take you to collect all that scrap? a month or two? good day of work, indeed!
