Never forget, very shortly after they hire bottlegnomes, the X com team gets hit with a surprise base defense mission where they couldn't even spot the approaching UFO. In that same mission, Bottlegnomes was also the closest soldier to the infamous 'rookie alien with a blaster bomb' incident. . I was rewatching the series again, and the thought of a bottlegnomes traitor of earth video crossed my mind, so I was paying attention to all instances featuring Bottlegnomes - it was there from the very beginning. If you rewatch the base defense mission in Final Mod Pack ep 24 - underarmed and overchumped, At 26:51, you'll see the first round of shooting Bottlegnomes ever makes in the series is 4 shots at a floater holding a blaster bomb launcher at a range of only 5 tiles away - normally an easy kill for an X com soldier with sniper stats. Only one shot hits, the other 3 go into a wall. In the following alien turn at 27:24, that same floater and another one sitting behind it both mysteriously move away without taking any shots at Bottlegnomes, then the 'rookie' fires the blaster bomb at its own feet and kills every other alien around him. The edge of the blaster bomb explosion radius is exactly 1 tile away from where Bottlegnomes is standing. Bottlegnomes then proceeds to do nothing but hide in that spot for the rest of the mission, whilst a chump is killed and the other sniper next to him is wounded in a laser auto barrage that conveniently only misses him out of all three X com soldiers within LOS of the alien. Those alien bastards all knew long before we did.
The whole Bottlegnomes Betrayal was so insidious! He pretended to bravely volunteer himself to go on every mission, so xcom would be assured of his loyalty. The aliens coordinated and stopped sending psykers for a long time, so that Ben and Lewis would forget about the terror of the noodle, and allow Bottlegnomes to grow in favour and climb the ranks. Then eventually it was time, Bottlegnomes started systematically eliminating high-threat soldiers and high ranking officers in "friendly fire accidents". This all to ensure that he would rise to the top position in xcom, to himself lead the attack on mars with false bravado, to then overwhelm the last chance that earth had in mindcontrol activity.
They really were. Literally from very first mission he was in. Been watching the series again and felt like there needed to be a Bottlegnomes traitor of earth video, so was paying attention to things whenever he showed up. Find my other comment posted here for more details.
I Love the Little Mind Control Spiral you add everytime One of them start to say we need to do something about Bottlegnomes, only for the other to dismiss the Problem.
Loving the channel, these almost story-style videos recapping the xcom videos are brilliant - loving the edits too! like Lewis being (possivly FTL?) mind controlled
I always wondered what happened to my chumps, managed to spy them in the base defense they insta aborted at 34:45 f ChubbersLJ and ZabbersLJ combined 0 kills haha.
There was an episode from terror from the deep where they started snowballing aliens one after another getting them to kill each other. “COME OVER HERE XIPNAXX, IVE GOT A GIFT FOR YOU” or something like that, but I can’t find it. Fantastic warcrimes happened though.
There's a highlight of that on this very channel, look for "The Purge and Molecular Control Training" and skip to 12:44 if you're not interested in the purge part of the highlight.
I know it's the second time suggesting it, the cute tanks like birthday bot, their lack of ammunition every mission and the bank raid mission that redeemed them in XCOM files I think
You either die a Yorkshire Farmer, or live long enough to see yourself become a BottleGnomes
Bottlegnomes blew up hybrids because they were too human for his liking.

My God... [removes sunglasses] It _was_ him from the very beginning!
The fact that bottlegnomes volunteered himself for retirement but got promoted and it was quickly forgotten will always haunt me
He got minecontroled to be a murderhappy alien killer just so he can be in the perfect position to backstab X-Com on Mars.
Half bottle, half gnome, all bastard
In retrospect there was a lot of foreshadowing
Definitely, although have to say Lewis' comment at 21:47 really takes the cake in this video.

We could use a rebound story of our brave Commander Wazjig in the original series who “definitely” was the one to destroy the alien brain
The signs were there the whole time

Just wanted to add to what everyone else has already said, thanks for making these. Top stuff.

Same!😍
Oh I'm glad to see the hybrid farm in one of these now. The screams as hundreds die. It's beautiful.
Do you remember when they hi-exd so many hybrid in one turn that it crashed the game?
@@hannabelphaege3774 It happened twice.
Everytime ben wants to rely on classic xcom overwatch to 70% of the time for it to fail him xD
Either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain
Good God that primed high-ex ff was insane.
7:20
Hahaha "Dollar store Ian "The Coin" Torsion wannabie"
Again, schplendid work Secretary Kalakakku
I appreciate this channel so much, I used to watch the vods instead of revising and now these vids bring sweet nostalgia
"It was a tragedy but WE CAPTURED" had me dying
Man these take me back. My mom used to make me tea and I'd ball up in blankets and watch the vods for hours. Thanks for these videos.
Bottlegnomes is the best of us
found the alien
He's the best of the worst of us.

The alien overlord sends his noodliest boys for his most important missions.
Keep them coming! We love these classic xcom moments! Ben and Lewis need to save the world again!
YES!! Bottlegnomes: Traitor of Earth! Thanks so much!
This has reignited an interest in these series that they should pick back up, thank you for your hard work and dedication
Interesting that the aliens never killed him despite ample opportunity
I always wondered what happened to my chumps, managed to spy them in the base defense they insta aborted at 34:45 f ChubbersLJ and ZabbersLJ combined 0 kills haha.
0:56 Oppenheimer reveals himself right after Bottlegnomes, signifying the doom that would come...
Yes, another video!

That clip is in the "the purge and molecular control" video

I add all the suggestions to a list so don't worry it's on there
They should've purged! Yorkshire Farmer could have done the final mission solo
He really could have! It's a shame "someone" shot him in the back...
@@Kalakakku_ ...😭
On the plus side I have the record for most powerful thing killed in any X-COM series.
A compilation of "the coin" could be funny
"Why do they never shoot back? Why don't we ever get Overwatch?"
Because _it is not OVERWATCH_ ... this not Firaxis XCOM!
