- In 1999, Peugeot unveiled the 206 WRC, and it competed for the first time in that year's World Rally Championship. The car was soon a success, and won the driver's championship in 2000 in the hands of Marcus Gronholm. In 2002, Gronholm again won the WRC title in his 206 WRC. His dominance that year was compared to Michael Schumacher's dominance of Formula 1. In addition to the driver's championships in 2000 and 2002, Peugeot also won the Manufacturers title three years in a row between 2000 and 2002. However, by 2003 the 206 WRC was beginning to show its age and was less effective against the competition, notably the newer Citroën Xsara WRC and the Subaru Impreza WRC, so it was retired from competition at the end of the season, to be replaced with the 307 WRC.
2024 and its still one of the most beautiful piece of art.

Rallying has to be one of the most stressful types of automobile racing. You don't know the course, and the only way you know where to go is the guy next to you is telling you what the next 1-2 turns are like. Takes skill for sure
I have the Tamiya model of the 206. This car made me wish Peugeot still sold cars in the U.S.! Great tribute video! (I love those interior shots showing the driver's intense concentration and the physical effort required to drive a WRC to it's limits!)

We build this car and we were on 3th place in Slovenia.

The 206 1.9 diesel road car was nice but the 1.6 hdi was bad especially the turbo pipe kept coming off. The 206 Wrc was a great champion

The Rally car has almost nothing in common with the road car like most rally cars at the the time and even today, so its not actually "your car"

Whaaaat? They just stopped to evolve the car at the begining of 2003 because the would focus on the 307, just marketing, during the entire 2003 the car proved to be competitive even being 2002 spec.
It wasn't that competitive... compared to 2002... ford and subaru brought completely new cars for 2003, plus the xsara had a gravel overhaul. The 307cc proved to be awful, i always thought they should of stuck with the 206... or at least the 307 hatch.. the cc was far too large
@@mattyg267 i agree the coupe cabriolet body of peugeot 307 is a mismatch for a 5 speed semi automatic, its long and not agile in tight corners and mismatch for the drivers themselves plus reliability issues compared to citroen xsara and c4 wrc

Best WRC car hands down - 307 was crap!!! If it ain't broke why fix it?
Because after 6 years of development and 5 seasons competing the 206 couldn't be developed any more, they needed a new car with citroen developing the xsara for all rallys. But yeah, the 307 was a huge let down.
@@mattyg267 the coupe cabriolet (cc) body style used in peugeot 307 wrc is really a let down, if they stick to a hatchback, they have a match with fellow psa brand, citroen xsara wrc and c4 wrc
