I'm 10 months in of back pain. I found out I have a disc buldge at L5 s1 I've tried physical therapy, chiropractor, decompression exercises, deep tissue massages, medicine, etc nothing helps. I'm scheduled tommorrow for a steroid injection. My doc said if it helps with the pain surgery will help the pain go away. I have back pain on my left side when I sit not when I walk or stand. Has your pain went all the way away after surgery?

Yeah dude, I know what you mean with that nerve pain, totally sucks. I have spinal stenosis and had L3-L4 laminectomy/discectomy as I was having bladder & bowel problems as well as the debilitating leg and back pain. Surgeon and all the research I did told me to walk was the best medicine, so day after surgery I got them to remove all the tubes hanging out of me and walked the corridors of the hospital. When I got home 2 days later I started to walk around the block and tried to go a bit further everyday. Just over a week from surgery I'm up to 2km a day with no pain. Good work with the updates and hopefully you are back in action now.

But like you said man it was horrible! I couldn’t even sleep and I would tear up. I’m not the kind to drop a tear. Worse pain ever.

Thank you so much for this video! I had this surgery 3 weeks and 2 days ago. 3 days ago I stared to have a serious pain in my back where my surgery was and it was hard to walk. So I walked more and it has gotten better but it is almost impossible to sleep on my side or back. It feels like I have something in my back pressing on my nerve. Oh it hurts so bad but I’m back on gabapentin, Motrin and Oxycodone. I can’t sleep otherwise. It’s good to know that other people have ups and downs like this. I am so worried. It’s like a constant struggle mentally to wonder if our disc reherniated again or not- These 6 weeks are going to be hard/ it’s such a long time to “baby” yourself and how you do things. Getting in and out of bed and being comfortable is so hard. I need more videos and I’m going to check out your journey.

If you weren't particularly mobile after the first week, some scar tissue may have set in that is impinging on the sciatic nerve. Plus, the nerve is going to be irritated as all hell for a while. A re-herniation is not likely unless you were sitting for several hours, excessively bending, and/or lifting a heavy object improperly, which doesn't sound like the case. Not to worry; the pain will improve with time and as you gradually increase your activity level. Kindly note that I am not a licensed M.D. and am not giving medical advice.

I have to say I am 8 weeks out from my surgery. I am in no pain. I am back working and I feel great. No numbness no leg pain. Have patience!!! That’s the key. The nerve has to relearn how to work so it’s a process. Also I recommend strengthening your core.

Be patient you will get better.

Gabapentin is a neuropathic pain blocker. It takes a few weeks to find the right dose, for me it took 5 weeks. It made me groggy, then high as a kite which was fun, then I couldn't sleep for 5 days and got Ativan to help me sleep. I went from 300 mg a day to 1500 mg a day and that works. Norco, Vicodin, and Somas don't help me with pain at all. Cyclobenzaprine at a low dose taken on and off helps with pain a great deal but also makes me very groggy mixed with the gaba and ativan. I've got ADR, laminectomy with discectomy and fusion coming up in 6 weeks. I'm hoping after that I can get off of the drugs but without them I wouldn't be able to walk at this point.

Same situation man. It's painful even when i sleep or even when I'm stationary. Sitting, sleeping, walking, everything hurts like a stabbing shooting pain sometimes. Doctors say that it's nerve regeneration process that's why it's hurting. My surgeon is pretty confident that the operation was 100% successful, however he did ask me to get an MRI after 6 weeks. So will get an MRI, and see if hopefully there's no re-herniation or failed back surgery. Fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing your experience, mate. I hope we recover soon🙏

So you've got to remember that it will just take time for your body to recover. Listen to your body if you are hurting don't do anything, just lie and chill and watch netflix.
It is difficult as I've got OCD and can't do the house work to do what I want to do to make things clean and tidy.

If you had your operation just 2-3 weeks ago, then why are you sitting? Here they don't allow you to sit for 3 months just walking and laying in bed because by sitting all of your upper weight pressure is on you lumbar spine. My cousin had an extrusion on his L5-L4 disc and wanted to die how much pain he had and he couldn't even walk. But like I said, his recovery was 5 to 6 months and he never was sitting at that recovery time. Now he is feeling great he is even riding his bike and go hiking with friends again.
I also have back problems or better said a herniated disc at S1-L5 and L5-L4 but try to avoid surgery with all kind of exercise. If I don't get better then I definitely will contact my cousins surgeon because he has done a great job with him.

2 weeks out from one, and the last 3 days has been ridiculous. Cant even get pain meds from my doc after 1 week. I am miserable. I just woke up 740 am screaming in anger and pain. And, I have moved around a lot. I tried to work some friday night. But from day 1 I have been walking. Occasionally needing a cane for stability. This shut sucks. I just ate 2 tylenol and 3 ibuprofen at omce. I am regretting this so bad. First few days were great, first week even. Im freaking out thinking it didnt work, it went wrong or there is some infection or something. I cant even put weight on my left foot right now

I also second guess my decision to do this, but after 6 weeks i cant take it anymore. I am able to do the eliptical for 30 minutes and it feels good so i will do this every day till the procedure.

End of day two and yes it’s a roller coaster! I get up a handful of times each day so far and walk around the house 10-15 min, then have to crash in bed lol. I see other vids of guys walking around fine same day as their surgery. Did say they had to remove more than originally thought. About 40% I believe. Said I should be good..3 months basically moving like a tinman. Mentioned a fusion down the road as i get older was prob in the cards. And a high risk of re herniated disc if not careful.

You should have been on gabapentin first. It helps tremendously with the glute pain. My surgery was 3 days ago and I have had no pain amazingly. I just feel better. It almost sounds like they did the surgery on the wrong area. I had to have a double laminectomy. I had l5 and s1 nerve pinch/damage. They did double laminectomy on my l4/l5. My calve strength is coming back already. My feet are still numb but it is better. Feet numbness can take a year if it will ever stop.

I know that the v-log is old but bro...I am a 6'10" 270 lb 53 yrd old re-tired professional B-Ball just had Microdisc Jan.17 for a L5/S1 that killed my media calf...I was not able to contract the calf and started to get swelling in the lower leg. First 3 days were hell as I was not able to take any pain meds due to my MS meds that block opids. I take low dose naltraxone. After the 3rd day pain started to go away and I walked 1.5 miles and started flossing the nerve. It is now 21 days post op and things are fine but still cant fire my media calf musle and have swelling. Going for an ultra sound next week to see if it just was a perfect storm with veins in my lower leg and my L5/S1 buldge.
Have to say ACL surgery was more painful than the Microdisc......but this is killing me want to get back in the gym to lift

But yes I had the same pain as you in the same areas that you are mentioning that you had and my pain is very very slowly getting better and it's been about 4 months or so since my surgery. My surgeon told me that my sciatic nerve was basically crushed and it will take a very long time for it to fully heal (I just talked to my cousin yesterday and he had the same surgery a few years back and he said it actually took a good year 1 to year 1.5 for things to finally feel normal again and he does get the occasional flare up but he said fortunately it does go away and he feels normal again). On a separate note while I have still had pain down my leg but nothing like before surgery it's kind of been that annoying pain but definitely not debilitating since a couple weeks after surgery but a couple days ago when I went strawberry picking and it was raining out and my shoes got muddy so I got back to the car I went to change my shoes because my feet were wet and I did that dance that you would do while trying to change You're underwear and you're hopping on one foot (yep that one 😂) and I ended up jerking my back and feeling like I pulled the muscle... And now my back is slightly sore but my leg actually feels better, who knew? Although my back feels like although it's maybe pulled and sore it has been getting better since yesterday so hopefully that clears up and I'll be on the mend. How are you doing since surgery and since about 1month ago when you wrote your reply? It's nice to hear from other people that are having the same experience.
P.S did the surgery play big time mental head games with you? It definitely did with me. Feeling like I'm really doing good and then a day later feeling somewhat depressed because I'll have more pain then I had in a while and then and then start feeling better again.

Physically and emotionally and mentally im broke down because they wont listen.ive had xrays,ct scans, mri 1.5 and mri 3t. Mri 3t showed the 4 bulding discs and compressed nerves. Ive seen a ortho surgeon who was more concrened about how he looked than helping me. Ive done everything they asked me to do and just last AGAIN went to ER after just being there 2 days prior. What do i do

I went through the same thing. They need to do a CT Myelogram then they will see the extent of the compression.

Find a female doctor as another patient said on a forum or blog I was reading. They are more "attuned"/sympathetic/nurturing whatever you wanna call it to your pain, when it comes to requesting some pain meds.

If haven't leg pain don't do sugary. Leg pain is high than back pain. Back pain can heal applying herbal oil. Do masarge well.
