***ATTENTION: There's been an unfortunate technical error with the audio of this video. I'll spare you the details but the audio from the Model Samples is only sounding in the left ear. If you're not using headphones you won't be able to tell the difference- if you are it will be a very annoying video. Apologies for this, I am only human 🤦🏻♂️
Hey, Liam. I’m excited you’re making Model:Samples videos! I would love to see your workflow for producing a track (any genre) from start to finish heavily incorporating the Model:Samples. I dig your music and your tutorials. Keep doing what you do!
Hey Liam, love your videos! I love my Model:Cycles and both can use tracks for sequencing midi out (monophonically). I'd like to see a video where you sequence an external synth and show how you'd use it for a live performance.
Would also love to see how Liam used the cycles in conjunction with the Digitakt. I’m trying to see how I might avoid “needing” a digitone with my takt even though I have a cycles come in.
Haha, thanks for showing the vacuum cleaning at the beginning. It relieves my complex of supposedly being the only person on earth with thick layers of dust on my gear ;D
Great video man. I have one of these but still feel like I need to wrap my head around it. Would be cool to see you it your own samples in it and use those! Awesome job 👍
Why is there only one mono cable in sp404 from the model samples, and not stereo? What are the white audio cables have you used in Your setup? thank you
This is a great tutorial. Thanks. I've already got a Model Cycles and love it. Your video has definitely got me thinking about getting a Samples too. Do you think a Cycles and Samples would work well together?
Hey Liam! Regarding your comment on needing to menu dive in order to get the most out of the sequencer: I am looking for a machine that requires the least menu diving that is the most fun and inspiring to use and that imposes helpful limitations in order to reduce decision fatigue. So far, I've heard a lot that points to the M:S as the right choice for me to get started with a hardware tool (currently program all of my drums inside ableton). Do you agree with this or can you think of any other tools that do this better in your opinion? Thanks!
Digitakt all the way- or basically anything and a solid midi controller will eliminate menu diving. I’m dropping a related video on this tomorrow actually!
Hi Liam, have you tried to sync up the Model Samples with the Roland SP404 MK2 via midi? if so how does it sync up (quality wise)? I'm asking because I have the DT and I had an MC 101 from Roland and all the time when I connected them via midi I had a small latency, very noticeable when layering kicks, but even on hats... I sold the MC 101, because I love my DT and it's not going anywhere :))... and I bought the MPC one, which has the same issue, either the MPC or the DT is falling behind when connected via midi ... I know you have a DT as well... do you have the same issue and if so did you find a workaround/fix? I know I'm asking here a lot of questions :)))
@@LiamKillen I don't know how to do hearts in comments :))) but if you are making a video with the SP 404 mk2 and the DT or the Model Samples, please lay a kick from the each machine on top of each other and see what happens :D
Liam, where are those other videos you said you were gonna make with the Model:Samples? I looked everywhere but couldn't find any besides this one... Tu as oublié de les faire?
Use your regular vacuum cleaner, with its brush mount. When you use duster, it blows dust into air and will comeback after a while. Its better to vacuum.
This is a big debate lol- but according to some people from Sweden- Digi is the way to pronounce it and not (digi). I don't like saying "digi" I think it doesn't sound as cool, but it's the right way to pronounce. 🤷🏻♂️
This is one of those devices that really would have benefited from having a built-in battery. It's designed for portability, except it isn't portable. Would have been a really nice portable song sketching device otherwise.
@@LiamKillen Right, but not built in! I feel this is the kind of device that would have been perfect with a built-in battery and usb-c charging, like the Circuit Tracks. It would have made it a very worthy sketchpad option.
@@sinewaymusic I like the AA battery solution much more than built-in Li-ion batteries. Seems much more future-proof. I'm using high-quality rechargeable eneloops, so it's environmentally friendly, too. It'll make the unit much heavier though, since the weight and volume are much higher for NiMh batteries compared to Li-ion batteries of the same capacity. But a bit more weight wouldn't be so bad for the Model:Cycles after all ;)
@@MultiMeschi I think that's just because, sadly, there are no standards around Li-ion batteries (yet?). If these were as easily replaceable as AAs and tucked away behind a lid just like on phones of the 00s, I think everyone would prefer them over AAs. Let's hope the EU can actually make a meaningful difference at some point.
This was my first impression- just getting a handle of the instrument and making a beat with it. I will def be making another video using samples that i've actually uploaded into the unit.
Yup- i'm freaking out about it right now trying to figure out a solution. I used an adaptor for my headphones during the editing/uploading process which played everything back in mono. It's very unfortunate and major apologies for this error.
@@LiamKillen yes but the digitone is a fm synth and digitakt is a sampler. Very different engines. Had both. Everytime you said digitone you mean digitakt. Digitone cannot play samples.

Hence the don't use headphones disclaimer lol
Just record it once again.
Me who lost my right earpod months ago: oh yeah it's all coming together

Thanks Sean! There's lots more to come!
I have had the Model Samples for over a year. I love it! It's awesome for sound design as well as beat making. Great video! Cheers...
Thanks for watching Marc! Happy holidays.
Nice! Been digging mine for a couple months now so this is definitely a welcome addition to the channel. The sequencer is so deep!
Yeah! I just received my Digitakt as well! 🔥

I can use that thing every day I’d still have dusty gear lol
I don’t understand how I was not already sub to this channel. Very good. thanks !
Thanks for the sub!

1:00 you CAN'T sample with the M:S... still love it
What I meant is that you can uplaod samples to the Model Samples (whoops)- i'll make that correction in the description.
@@LiamKillen Yep, I understood what you meant but people thinking buying it might get confused so i made the correction. Love your channel, btw.
Did you ever try setting up the model:samples as a better sequencer for the Sp-404 mk2?
I haven't! I sold my Model Samples!
This is a great tutorial. Thanks. I've already got a Model Cycles and love it. Your video has definitely got me thinking about getting a Samples too. Do you think a Cycles and Samples would work well together?
I think they would ABSOLUTELY work well together- without a doubt. Thank you for watching!
@@LiamKillen Thanks mate. Maybe a Christmas present from me to me..
Good tips here on the MS, thank you!
Always a pleasure
I would buy one in an instant if you could actually sample into the device. Still is an awesome device! Maybe a future upgrade for my volca sample

I personally would choose the EP-133.

Liam, where are those other videos you said you were gonna make with the Model:Samples? I looked everywhere but couldn't find any besides this one... Tu as oublié de les faire?
The digitakt just completely overshadows the model samples so I haven’t gotten around to it
Infact I’m planning on selling the samples for that very reason
Thanks ... cheers to the process !
Indeed!
Love your watch. Yeah, and also the video 🙃
I appreciate you watching- ❤️
do you have access to the electribe 2?
I do not.
What is the blow thingy called ?
It's from the company Opolar!

I finally have a reason to switch my device settings to mono, to hear this video properly...lol

The stock patterns don't do the samples justice
